I played FFXI for a solid 3-4 months back in 2004. I liked the "Aggro" system for monsters where the monsters will attack party members who deal the most damage over time (or when a player does heal spells or abilities) or what not.
Do most MMORPG games use this system now? If not, which ones do? Do non-MMORPG games use this system?
Thanks for your input!

Most MMORPGs use this system when your party fights a monster, yeah. It's just that in FFXI you're in a party often enough that you actually have to learn something about hate.

Very true. As a 75 WHM from Cerberus I was required to actually determine what spells would draw hate towards me and how many I could get away with. There's different levels of hate management for each job really, Tanks, Soloers, Mages, etc, and you actually have to learn that about every role or you'll be hated by your party members sometimes.
The system in FFXI is great... a lot of skill in being a good healer, dd or tank is to know how to control your enmity (aggro)... the best players are usually amazing at it. The normal mobs that you level up on don't die in 3 seconds like other MMO games either... actually, it's not uncommon to be fighting mobs that take a couple mins to kill. Granted, when you get to higher levels you can do "burn" parties, but at that point you would have spent a lot of time learning about your own enmity control, and the enmity that other jobs can produce.
I've yet to see a game really come close to the aggro system in FFXI, because in a lot of other games you can just sit there and solo an even leveled mob in 5 seconds.
