Fable...

I have a friend that bout fable the xbox game and it was very dissapointing... I do agree it does have awsome graphics, great game play and you do get right into it when you start playing and dont want to stop playing... but thats the problem... you DO stop playing.
The people that made this game was making it for like 4 years and i only got 12 hours of game play out of it. It does have great +'s but there is a BIG minus. I did enjoy the game tho, but if i were any of you people i would give this game a rental... dont buy it. its not a game that you can keep playing. Just giving you suggestions...

Yeah, it's really good, but really short. I bet most people could get through the main game in less than 8 hours if they didn't take time to explore.
  • GreenberdGreenberd Member Posts: 16
Yes, they could have made Fable a much better game over the period of ...who knows how long, but you can still continue to play after you beat the game.  You just need to let the credits roll through and there you are.  Problem is, after all the side quests are done, there is so little to do other than just hang around.  On the box of the game, it said Xbox Live Enabled or something along those lines.  Now I'm pretty sure you can't play Fable with more than one person, but Xbox Live will allow you to download new things for the game to try and make it as long as possible.  Not sure if they've done so already, with the game being pretty new and all, but we'll just have to wait and see.image

I don't know. I would not count on much from XBOX Live Content Downloads.

    My experience has been so-so.

You would get a couple of cool things and then nothing more would come out...ever...

I think bigbluebox were expecting everyone to try to find all the secret stuff in this game and do everything possible. You could probably get 15+ hours out of it if you tried.

well that sucks , im not even gunna get the game now. You know the saying ''Quality over Quantity'' well in my opinion fable may have quality but 12 hours is no where near even quantity , an RPG should be atlest 40 hours to beat ...atleast...i mean how could the game have a good deep story if its only 12 hours long? It couldnt...fable sounds like a mix between morrowind and baldurs gate...but no where near as long as morrowind. I wouldve definetly got the game if someone said there was 30+hours of sidequests...but since there isnt it just seems like a waste of 70$ to buy it.

I think the game is great in many ways except these 3 problems

It is short even with side quests

the battle system works but is too simple, instead of 1 button I prefer 3

your character changes against your will, if you are bad then you have black hair, if you are good then you have blonde, if you are strong you get hairy, I don't like that all changes should be optional and easily controled, except scars that would be harder to control

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

One thing I really don't like is the linear paths that you must follow. I really enjoy RPGs that allow you to roam freely across the entire world.

For some reason I want to compare this game to Gothic 2. Although Fable has many features that Gothic 2 doesn't, Gothic 2 still stands as a better game. For me, with Fable only having an 8 hour storyline really kills the game. What's the point of doing anything in a game unless you have some sort of goal, something to look forward to?

That really blows.  I read previews in GamePro that said with sidequests you are looking to at least 40 hours of gameplay.  I just don't see how 8 hours is accuarate unless you blow straight threw it, especially if you are starting out as a kid and growing to old age.

40 hrs...LOL, they must be joking! I don't think you could ever get 40 hours out of this game without becoming insanely bored. A lot of the things that were going to be in this game were taken out, just because BBB didn't have enought time to get everything functioning well. So when you read a preview saying you'll get 40 hours of gameplay, just remember that that is what they initially thought they would have, before they took out a large amount of planned features.

There are not that many sidequests. The main quests can be completed in about 8 hours. The most time I could see pumping out of this game while still enjoying it is around 15 hours. There just isn't that much interesting stuff to do besides the quests, getting married, and the fighting tournaments. You can go around and find all of the silver keys needed to unlock treasure chests, or you could unlock the demon gates, but why do that if you already have, or know, you can beat the game?

Your character does not age how you think he would age. My hero aged 4 years in 1 fable day. Does that make any sense, not really. I believe, and correct me if I am wrong, age is determined by how many skills you have trained.

To me, Fable is recieving too high of scores from the reviews I have seen so far on the internet. Too me, this game is worth around a 7 to 7.5 just because it is so damn short.

Your hair is black as a child, it gets whiter as you grow older(like in real life!), which is tied to the skill points to accumulate over time as you battle. You don't have much hair at all if you are really evil, as your horns need a place to grow in. =P

I was reading that if you let the end credits run the whole way through, you can continue to play the game.  Not sure if you can get more quests, or do the ones you didn't do earlier.

You can't get any addition quests after beating the last boss. You are only allowed to finish up any existing quests that you might have activated before beating the boss.

I don't see how it could be finished in 8 hours, unless you just rush right through the game, giving no concern for anything but completeing the main quests. Even then, I have not completed it, but 8 hours?!?! I doubt it. Sounds like a fantasy. The one quest I did last ngiht took me an hour. Take some traders through the DarkWood forest or some such thing... And I have the game installed on my hard drive, so the loading times between zones are much faster :)

I have been at it for about 4 hours or so and am not very far into the game. But I did find a house that it said I can buy, and would need to buy a house if I wanted to get married and raise a family ::::06::.

So, I am thinking I am going to spend some time trying to do that, just to see how it turns out.

  • DesalusDesalus Member UncommonPosts: 848

I beat the game in 9 hours. I basically went through and did all of the main quests and a few of the side quests. When I went to the official forums I saw many people posting their times to finish the game. Most people were finishing the game in 8-10 hours.

In those 4 hours you could already be close to beating half the main quests. There aren't that many quests so when I reached the last one, I was in denial. I mean to think that you can beat an rpg game in 8 hours was shocking. These days I expect an rpg to at least last 20 hours.

Oh, BTW there is no way to raise a family. You can only get married, but not have kids. Getting married was a very easy process, at least for me. All I had to do was press the right control pad to do actions that would impress the lady. Then, when her heart was big enough I handed her the ring. I then impressed her some more, and then it gave me the choice of getting married.

For me since this game has come out I have probably put a total of 4 hours of gametime in there.  Of course I'm not doing just the main quest....i'm exploring doing side quests...checking out towns....stealing(love this feature) and just being a plain menace to society!  anyway for me I am not trying to beat this game in 8 or 9 hours....just taking my time and having as much fun as possible...but hey whatever floats your boatimage

To me it sounds like the ones that finished it in 10 hours are really not complaining. They are just thinking they are actually bragging. These are the type of people that aren't playing to enjoy the game, but rather try to play it as fast as they can and then come online and say I WIN!!! But they don't want to make it sound like they were racing anyone specially since there was no official race. So, they share their so called WIN status by turning it into a complaint.

Look clearing at what they say....I beat fable in 8-10 hours. hmm, why did they beat fable? Instead of play it. I haven't heard anyone say anything about the story line. But I did hear someone say if it was longer they would have gotten to hate it. Sounds like they don't enjoy playing RPG games.

My son got it Monday night. He played it all night. I had to kick his butt to get off at 3am. Then Tuesday the same thing. Then now the same thing Wendesday, last night. He has made a Evil char and a good char. Playing both sides. So far with both chars he has about atleast 20 hours in between the both and is maybe half way through it, if that even. But from what I hear on here. I don't hear anyone saying anything about all the cool stuff I have seen in the game.

I honestly think the ones complaining RUSHED as fast as they can thorough the game. Then coming online to brag.. *cough* complain about how long it took them to finish the game. Why would anyone rush to get to the end and even step so much side quest and all the social interaction in the game?  What is wrong with most gamers today is they don't care to "PLAY" the game, but turn it into a competition of who can play it best. It is like reading a book and seeing whoi can finish it first rather than trying to enjoy what it contains.

Instead of complaining about it why don't you jsut play it and enjoy it for the entertainment. If you traded in your favorite game, spend what? 70 bucks. Well you got Ripped off.  I don't understand why anyone would buy a game without checking it out first in a rental to see if you would even like it. You have that option for being a cheap console lover in the first place. To me if you blow all that cash on something without checking it out first is that you are too anxious to be the first to own it and too anxious to finish it. My son is only 10 years old and he even knows to go rent it first to see if he even wants to add it to his collection. However he decided to buy it just on Monday after a weekend rental for 5 lousy bucks. 10% of the cost. But he bought it because he knew he was going to enjoy it. Infact with his evil char he already has taken over a whole town. Geez, I haven't heard anyone say anything about that here at all. What other RPG can you kill all the guards and have the folks fear you. Also you can not only marry and own a house, you can own your own shop as well.

Like I said from all I hear on here is that the people rushing through the game to claim I WIN, I BEAT the GAME!!! Show me that you only rushed to the end and didn't even try to enjoy the game for what it is. Oh BTW my son even loved Morrowind, but thinks Fable is more of his play style.

For you others that was now totally turned away from wanting to buy the game now because of these people that don't enjoy RPG's I suggest you atleast go rent it and NOT let others decided for you what you like.

For you all that feel you wasted your money on the game and you can't get your money back. I suggest you go make a RUN THRU. not a Walk THRU, but a RUN THRU tutorial to add your oh so self acclaimed popularity and play it many times to find the FASTEST way. So you all can start your own forum on I HATE RPG and I can finish them faster than a FPS Death Match round. Hmm, maybe even have a TIPS page and add..drink lots of coffee or soda pop to aid in the hyper-active play.

the problem is bigbluebox put way too much time into the good and evil aspect. ill agree that is realy cool and i like the fact that i can kill villagers or save them. But there isnt alot of game content. i like RPGs that have 80+ hours gameplay. I also dont like being restricted to hardline quests. RPGs are about exploring and discovering not a series of straight forward quests. but thats just my 2 cents.

  • TaskyZZTaskyZZ Member Posts: 1,476

I put in another 3 hours or so last night, and only completed one more main line quest...

I bought two house, began collecting rent on them and got married (but saved frst, as I just wanted to see what it was like). I went into a house at night and started wooing this dudes wife right in front of him, slapped a ring on her finger, and took her to my house :) It was kinda funny to see the guy just stand there helpless. He even called the woman names. I even got to have sex (Are you guys SURE you can't get her preganant and have kids??).

I have won two of the fight club things and am ging back to the Bandit Camp to win the one there (the twin blades quest is the one I finished last night).

I also am going to start a new character and play through as a wizard.

I have really been enjoying the spirit of the game. Making relationships with people, etc. I even did one of theose flirt expressions to a guy and and he made some comment asking if I knew he was a guy! :) It also has a stat of what sexual persuasion you are (mine is heterosexual). So I might use a save point to try and see if I can get my dude to be gay and marry a guy! :)

There is just so much to do in the game besides the main and and the side quests. There are even shops to own out there somewhere. I haven't found one yet, but when I do, I am going to buy it :)

8 hours?? My biggest question is why finish it in 8 hours???

Ok where shall i start, firstly everyone inside this topic has the honour of viewing my first ever Post!image

And now for all you complainers/braggers out there who say they can complete fable within 8-10 hours. ( Im a huge fan of fable but i havent yet played it cause im in englanddd! But i know alot about it! so here goes nothing!)

Firstly, Fable is more Action adventure than it is RPG, sure it contains Rpg elements but there are more action-adventure parts to it. Ever played zelda? Well that is what in my opinion the actual feal to the game will be like. If you are looking for a 80+ hour rpg, then go buy yourself star ocean...Final fantasy 7 or some other japanese based RPG, because this is an english rpg and over here we do things differently! If you want your Huge Anime eyes, non-detailed enviroment and non-original ideas but huge hours of speech and reading then go get one of those games (or read a book image) because this game is more about the enjoyment you get over doing the little things, sure it may not have a story line like kotor but its not meant to and sure it doesnt have as much free-roaming as Morrowind (but does anyone really like that?) the thing that makes Fable and takes it out from the RPG crowd is its originallity! So play and enjoy, dont think throughout the game - oh they could have changed this, added this, got rid of that because that is what sequels are for!

Zelda, if i recall, for the nintendo 64 took me about 12-15 hours to solid gameplay to complete but it was still seen as one of the greatest RPG's of all time. The scale and complex of RPG's has changed alot from 1990's to 2005 its become Quantity over Quality and i dont like that. Zelda was fun because they nailed that (like in halo) 30 second system where it was fun to go out in the Hyrule fields and slay beasts, doing backflips and sideflips and slashing - thats what took it from the japenese style rpgs and made it what it was.

People who say fable can be completed within 8 hours are the kind of guys who play an MMORPG and run upto you and say God!? How long did it take you to become level 60!? It only took me 24 hours!! You damn noob! And begin to boast and jump around and poke fun, these people (No offence if your not one of these guys :D ) are the sorts of people who play games and complete them quickly for a living and skip the enjoyment of them, these are the people who forget games are to play and use them as a boost of confidence or arrogance to make themselves feal bigger and better than you!

Fable should take about 30 hours of gameplay to complete, the first 5 hours should be spent exploring and seeing how huge the game truely is. Then explore the different abilitys, archery, magic, swordsmanship, merchant - own your own house, go get drunk, have 8 wifes, chase some kids down the streets, own a whole town, go into a town and murder the whole bunch of em! Fable is there to explore and to see how much you can do, not just rush into the main story line and complete it!

I think that if you tried you could actually get 40 hours of gameplay from fable, unlocking all those secret areas and playing out evil/good magic/archery/swordsmanship sides would definatly get you 40+ hours of gameplay and wont allow you to lose that enjoyment.

Alot of hype was put into fable and i think alot of people expected too much - dont expect anything and you will be extremly pleased with this game and yes it deserves its 9.0+ scores just for its originality and great design.

true that's what I do if I want to play a really long game I'll go back and play some more xenosaga and xenogears(on of my favorite rpgs ever) I think IMO fable delivered on all its promises...you don't see on the box OVER 60 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY because unlike xenosaga you don't sit through half the game listening to the characters talk...
