I left AoC a few weeks ago because I got a bit bored... was playing a bit of LOTRO and my beta account for a certain popular mmo coming out in the next 2 months...

The first think you notice in other mmos is the combat... it's boring... but i also noticed what a much much much more complete and smooth game LOTRO was compared to AoC....

I did return yesterday to AOC to show a friend some of the PvP.... and it's so damn great... had amazing fun.

I don't care how much people complaign about AoC... it is fun.... but still needs work to feel like a smooth/complete game...

To be honest I had a graphical issue with the interface not showing the health bars for me a couple of weeks back, I tried a few things to no avail, I couldn't re-install as a friend had my dvd client to install for the buddy key system. Suffice to say I found myself missing my fix of mmorpg. I logged on both my Guild Wards account and Vanguard, although these were fun, I have to agree that I missed the fast paced combat and the fludity in animations. In Conan I actually feel like im actively taking part, I think the sound effects go a long way too.

Sure at the basic level its fun, I think like you do too that it needs some work on class balance and feat usuage a bit more.

I agree with you. The combat, while revolutionary in idea, never made it into AOC. Combat needs to be effective. As my wife found out, her and every other female melee toon was operating with a 30% dps reduction.

Couple that with the rudimentary button smashing and I could understand her frustration. As it's the 1st in roughly 500 other issues that frustrate it's current player base. And why they're verbose about it.

    Trust me, complaining works.

Look at SWG right now.  The Veterans that got shafted and defrauded out of their money have been so vocal about that game that most people won't even touch it now.  I would say word of mouth is very effective, especially when it hits where it counts -- The mighty dollar.

    Tecmo Bowl.

The fast paced combat is just fluff and won't do it alone.

At a given time it just became to tedious as there is nothing fast paced about having to click 4 buttons to get one combo action done.

While other MMO's might be auto attack, at least there I have only to click one button to get an action done.

It's just a matter of preference.

I DO have to admit when I went back to EverQuest2 I needed some time to adjust back to the auto attack mode. But it didn't take that long at all, as fun gameplay and stable game environment, rich with features outdo Age of Conan with his unstable, lacking and frustrating environment.

    Cheers

Good to see you enjoy the game still. But if one day you log on and find yourself either

    a) banned for no reason cause you didnt play by their rules

    b) client crash every 15 mins

    c) some weird bug that causes the UI acting weird

    d) bored of the 5 button smash for melee / auto atk cast for casters

    e) you need something petition but the GM in game acts like a jerk

    f) did quests for couple hours in a zone but at the end the quests are bugged and you cant get rewards(happens to me)

    g) server shut down cause Failcom run out of money

    .....and so much more....

feel free to join us in our  "ex-Aoc-sub now Failcom bashing" family (oh, this family is big too mind you)

ha lol i think funcom ran out of money long ago hence them releasing the game in the current state. if they didnt run out of money then they would not need to lie, cheat, steal and manipulate its customers at all. like someone else posted, word of mouth is the foot up the rear end of failcom and it must really hurt.

The combat is fun in small doses but once you get used to it I found it very boring.  I can only hit 5 keys to do the same combo so many times before it becomes more of a chore than a fun experience.

the combat in AoC is fun, but in all honestly it is much simplier than other systems.  In spite of you hitting more buttons.

Take vanguard for example.  You have dozens of skills and abilities, and you combine them with other classes. Tons of other abilities that hinder enemies in some way.

AoC you get stuns and knockdowns.

Moving driectly from AoC to any other MMO(autoattack) and you will feel there is something missing, no doubt (Melee chars only)

Regarding the amount of skills, i am not sure whether there are more or less in AoC compared to other mmo.

But it seems there are less, which implys less strategy for groups and individuals.

In groups i think the main functions are

    Tanking,Healing, CC and DPS.

I have not been in many parties in AoC but i dont think the CC is as effective as other games.........

The combat in AoC compared to alot of other games is slow and boring. The only saving grace conan has is the decapitations ect and they get boring after a short while.

The game has no substance and nothing that gives it a feeel that it stands out compared to the other games available that are much more stable and enjoyble.

Depends on the MMO.  Sure EQ lineage game, but have you tried Asheron's Call 1, DDO, Tabula Rasa, Neocron or City of Heroes.  Especially DDO since it is collision based.

IMO AoC combat has some major flaws in the combo system.  All in all I consider DDO's system slightly better.  Slightly.

Why are there so many people who attribute autoattack and autotarget to all other MMO when there have been non-autoattack MMORPGs for a good 7 years?  And more than one,  we are talking about at least 5 major games here.

City of heroes never had auto attacks.  Neocron was released a long time ago.  DDO has the complete opposite of auto-target and is one of the better melee oritented third person shooter type interfaces around.

I mean AoC (and Tabula Rasa, but especially AoC) have really sold people a bill of good in this regard.  And you know what?  Its your own guy's fault because they were telling you what you have been saying you have just been wrong.

Don't blame AoC for taking liberties here it is correct marketing to play into peopole stereotypes.  Funcom is still a pack of liars though.
