Instead of seeing all these completely unique, off the wall ideas for anime style MMORPGs, why not try going with a popular series.

Hear me out people and may those who flame me be damned to hell :P . There's 3 perfect (imo) series for which to do this with. One, the obvious, Dragonball Z. Geared towards the non-adult crowd it could be set up like guildwars where you pay for the game and no monthly fee. Instead of buying new weapons and such, you'd spend time devloping your own techniques. As for armor, weighted armor could be used for training. PvP could be allowed, and the huge host of planets, as well as 2 areas of afterlife could prove to have a lot of content for a game.

The second good choice would be Yu Yu Hakusho. Again, similar to DBZ, but definately geared more towards adults with the inclusion of demons and demonic energy. There's Demons, Humans, the Demon altered humans (those who were exposed to energy from the demon portal in season 3). Demons could further moe be divided into types as well. Some weapons are used, but no armor. it's all physical toughness that required training.

The last idea which some people may or may not be familiar with (although it's THE most popular anime in Japan right now) is Inuyasha. Set in the feudal era in Japan, you get all sorts of fun stuff. Humans, demons, half-demons, and all sorts of goodies. There's weapons, techniques with weapons, armor and more. Perhaps something could be done with the traveling back and forth for special characters as well.

In any case, those are my thoughts to any developers at major companies out there looking to make a new, innovatinve MMORPG. Plagerize me all you want, just make one of these please! Ragnarok is a crap game, and there's nothing else out there other than ffxi (which again, isn't really anime).

Sincerely,

Brian (who mysteriously gets post deleted all the time now)

I happen to be an anime fan. I would like to know why exactly you think anime sucks? Seriously I bet the only ones you have even bothered to watch are Pokemon, DBZ and possibly others designed for kids... if even that, so you seriously have no right to judge the genre as a whole. (BTW, I like anime and I still think both the shows I mentioned suck)

As for the ideas, me and my brother have been thinking about a Yu Yu Hakusho MMORPG. We thought it'd be pretty cool. I would love to actually participate in a Dark Tournament online with my own made up character. ::::01:: It wouldnt be much of a hit for a MMORPG because of people like beatbox here, I would go for a multiplayer online fighting game though. ::::39::

You could just splice the shows together and play along. Pretend that it's an MMO.

So, why don't you write up a formal design proposition and present them to several MMO developers. It's not too hard, and they may say no, but what if they say yes?

Oh, and about that pay for the game, but no subscriptions means that they won't host any servers for public use. The kids will have to host their own servers.

DBZ MMORPG or Yu Yu hakusho MMORPG would be much like COH, but imo Inuyasha mmorpg has some potencial, becaus its simply another fantasy world, maybe like Horizons, but set in feudal Japan. Why not?

I'm a big Inuyasha fan, its on Cartoon Network at around midnite.  I just dont think it would make a great mmorpg since it centers around Inuyasha and his companions, and the rest of the world is pretty much just evil demons and what not.  I'm just not sure it would make a great mmorpg.  I think it'd make a better single player and  yeah i know someone already made a console version that was pretty lame.

I really cant stand Dragonball Z, or Pokemon.  Altho they might do well wiith a younger crowd, if the younger crowd had credit cards and generally played mmorpg's.

HA HAH AHHAA. yes, and he should make little cutouts of the characters on a popsicle stick, kinda like that EQ2 beta joke and he can dance them aroud and stuff.

Seriously though, an anime one would be very odd with all those poeple walking around with huge eyes and enormously detailed hairs.

Hey now, don't knock the stick RPGs until you try it. They really are pretty cool, anime or not, popsicle stick MMORPGs are still the shiznit.

Really guys anime has some of the most original and interesting worlds, you could make a great RPG out of many of them, and best part no fantasy!

    Good Ones

    1. Blue Gender
    2. Trigun
    3. Bebop
    4. Hellsing
    5. Witch Hunter Robin
    6. Last Exile
    7. Vampire Hunter D

    Bad Ones

    • DBZ
    • Pokemon
    • Sailor Moon
    • the other anime crap that I don't likeimage

Like most games that are ported from other ideas in the world, either from TV or movies or books, it's enormously hard to make a MMO on one that's based off of a few characters. If the series follows around only a certain small band of people, then there cannot be an MMO unless the series shows so much of the surrounding world that any of the people in the world could be these characters. Most of the anime that does that has the world as today's world and not some form of fantasy.

That's true, but with some anime theres so many variations of characters that you could make just about any kind of character with limitless amounts of skills and powers. Consider CoH if you will. People classify superheroes with Superman, Spiderman, Batman, ect. Yet people still make their own heroes. With Yu Yu Hakusho, sure we classify the main story with Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama but there are so many demons with so many kinds of powers that you could make just about any kind of character you want. To be honest, a Yu Yu Hakusho MMORPG would probably end up being a lot like CoH only with a bit more fantasy, and hopefully PvP so we can have our own teams and Dark Tournaments. ;)

The same goes with a couple other animes. Animes like Cowboy Bebop however would make a horrible MMORPG since the characters dont really have powers, they are just good with guns and karate. Everyone would end up being the same.

My thoughts exactly about the demons. Plus, as I stated you have humans, and then furthermore, those humans who get powers from the demonic energy spewing from the portal in season 3, for any fans out there. Basically what it does is give them psychic powers and allows them to make their own "territory" usually a siazable area around them, where their powers will work. 3 were good guys, and at LEAST 7 were badguys, from what could be shown. There's 3 types of energy out there. Reiki (my spelling is off I'm sure) is spirit energy typically used by humans. I don't remember the exact names of the other two types of energy but they turn out being "sacred" energy, the kind used by the angelic types in spirit world, and Demonic energy used by demons. In anycase, there's almost limitess choices, and yes, I see the game being a LOT like CoH except maybe there will be ROLEPLAYING and people won't get BORED! Anyways, that's my thought anyways.

Ah co'mon, Bebop would be the best RPG, because there is no stupid magic or elves or laser guns or knights or castles or teleports or, you catch my drift, only realistic abilities, and it has style and a great universe

    different skills could be

    • hand to hand ( Jeet Kun Do, wrestling, brawling)
    • hacking
    • gunplay ( pistols, shotgun, SMGs)
    • weapons ( sword, numchuku, tonfa, knives)
    • stealth (sneaking, snapping neck, all that good stuff)
    • gun smith
    • blade grinder

You could be in the Red Dragon Clan, or join the police, anything really

    It would be greatimage

Bebop would crowd an already overcrowded scifi MMO market. if you want space combat, go SWG with their expansion that's due out in like a week. If you want gunsmithing, play World of Warcraft. If you want ranged gun battles Play AO or Eve. If you want to hack into stuff, wait for the upcoming MMO I'm working on with a small staff ;) We expect it to be out in 2005 sometime. In anycase, Bebop will NOT make a good MMO for those reasons. Fantasy animes will have a lot better chance to try to break into the market than scifi based ones.
