Not forums, bad reputation. It happens to most games. If there was no line of communication between players how long could Funcom have held people captive in their web of lies? Not everyone knows the idustry well enough to read between the lines. I myself picked up on tiny hints and evidence that the game was going to be a mess, and stopped being excited for it a year or two ago. Its sadly happened before. The game destroyed itself.
90% of the so called "hype" was passed along through forums. 99% of the "don't play this game" shit is passed along through forums. How many people would have actually believed and expected a giant sparkling diamond the day it was released had it not been for forums?
i cant say what killed this game, or if it is killed, or just mortaly wouned, but yeah, the forums are a scary place. almost always good for a laugh though
the missing link in a chain of destruction.
All spelling and typographical errors are based soely on the fact that i just dont care. If you must point out my lack of atention to detail, please do it with a smile.

it doesnt matter, the outcome would have been the same... the state of the game is the same wether it was hyped or not. Also, most people think for themselves. So all those "dont play this game" post made no difference either. People decide for themselves.
If the game or company or heck anything for that matter is truely a great product and people genuiely enjoy it can hearsay truely "destroy" it?
Yeah, look at blizzard. They paid for primetime plugs on TV for WoW advertisements. G4 did numerous segments on it. Its like having a "Bobs Coffee Cabin" against a "Starbucks".
well take it that a few people even look at the forums, I've read reviews from gamestop.com, amazon.com, gametrailers.com, and I've found out one thing, the game isn't that good, I think the forums are recent, but will ruin this game is the xfire population I treat like a saint

So you will let someone else's opinion dictate your own?

Oh I don't know, anyone that listened to the developers? No one would have known about the game had it not been for forums too, goes both ways. /thread.
forums dont kill games. players and testers dont kill games. games kill games. PR spin kills games. bad development kills games. lies kill games. fraud kills games. bad customer service kills games. shills kill games. see a pattern forming here?
You are delusional if you think internet forums are powerful enough to "destroy" games.
The amount of false and unwarranted bullshit being spread about WoW is MAGNITUDES more than that of AoC, but 10+ million subscribers speak for themselves.
Case in point, if your game is truly fun and polished enough, no amount of negative propaganda and false information will bring it down because they will be swamped by the positive words-of-mouth that are deservingly spread.
but will ruin this game is the xfire population I treat like a saint
And therein lies the downfall of game population. The bandwagon. It's like a domino effect. 5 people say the game is shit and post about it. 200 people read that post and are persuaded by it. I have seen numerous players dissuaded to play a game because of one persons "review" of it. If someone doesn't like that game, fine. You are more then welcome to your opinion. But do not start imposing that opinion on other people.
For example the other day, in the forums, someone stated the have played the game for 2 minutes. Hated the controls and posted a thread warning others to stay away from the game because it sucked. Now where is the sense in that?

Yeah sure, if "Bobs Coffee Cabin" served melted shit instead of Coffee, and then only gave you half of it and the cup had a hole in the side of it.
The company promised a bunch of features and kept information secret. They release and it's a disappointment, gamers discuss it online, like every other product out there.
How do you possibly blame players for the bad release? Because that is why so many people don't like it, disappointment. You know that people complained or praised everything before the internet too, right?
Forums destroyed the game? So man A shoots man B dead. Man C witnesses it and runs to tell everyone, it's man C's fault it happened?

Get this through to your head.
If your game isn't a pile of shit and truly deserves praise, the positive posts will always outnumber the negative posts by a large margin, on ANY credible, moderated forum.

Has it ever occurred to you that AoC actually deserved all the shitstorm that unhappy customers unleashed on it?

No, your not understanding my point. My point is people have extremely critical views. 1 person says the game sucks ass and do not play. That person posts on the forums. 100 people read his review, and believe what he says. I understand your metaphor, but unlike your metaphor these are peoples opinions, not facts.
90% of the so called "hype" was passed along through forums. 99% of the "don't play this game" shit is passed along through forums. How many people would have actually believed and expected a giant sparkling diamond the day it was released had it not been for forums?
Everybody and anybody the devs could talk to, including every big gamesite, every little gamesite, and everything in between. The forums didn't promise the "giant sparkling diamond", the fucking devs did. Go rant to Gaute.
Forum Posters aren't THE cause for destroying any game due to ONE major reason:
The run-of-the-mill forum posters are not the ones working on the game, i.e. the monkeys at Failcom mashing on the keys and pushing out patches.
Now, think of it like this: Have you **ever** considered **why** there are a bunch of angry paying / formerly-paying posters for AoC? **Especially** when they point out cold, hard facts?
There's no denying there are malcontents anywhere you go. However, when you have alot of angry customers (or former customers) ranting about the same things... IS there a cause of concern?

Their opinion is a FACT for THEM. Whether you or anyone else agrees is up to them.

In today's saturated market AoC was not ready for primetime...plain and simple.
These days a game better have it's sh!t together* at launch or it's gonna tank...plain and simple.
*Promised features, stability, mechanics, customer service, etc.
