if you look on the official site, under artisan, you will see there isnt a tinkering artisan proffession. but there is many other ones to choose from, and they are all interactive no more just sticking an item in the box/forge/etc and clicking combine. you have to use skills and the skill of yourself to create items. like if your making a brestplate and you heat the armor too long it will become weakened, just as an example. i read this from an interview with EQ2 dev staff.
Yes, the Artisan page is a good reference. But, EQ2 is still under development. A good indication of that is that since BETA they have already redesigned the entire Death Penalty. It seems much is still left to be decided. You just never know what the product will look like until release. Just preparing.
Thanx for the replies. I kind of figured it wouldnt be on release or you have to to get to a certain level before you are able to start tinkering.
In response to jayheld90's post, i know that it is not an archtype but race-specific only. last comment was not meant to be hurtful, just stating what i knew.
I am probably going to be a gnome if there is tinkering or not. So it is not like it really matters, it would just be a perk. It is going to be interesting to see how they compensate for it if they dont though.

I can't imagine them taking that away, it's just kinda what gnomes do...
I created a Gnome ( pre-order disc) just incase they do allow tinkering, if not Barbarian Guardian all the way home.

From the FAQ section of the EQII board:
Will there be cultural and race-specific recipes and tradeskills?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Cultural recipes will most likely not be included at release. That's something we'll work on later.
Something to hope for!
