What kind of mmo is it, not much gamelore on the side, no introduction on main website about the game?

Maybe fun to play but pve oriented or pvp or lvl based skill based is a sandbox or themepark.

    Instance or just open dungeons

    Much grind?

Always nice to see little independed game developers making mmorpgs:)

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

wow that looks pretty hot especially for an Indie effort. Yeah they need to release more info about it and I'm hoping it sandbox skill-based

  • centrik91centrik91 Member Posts: 175

Wow that looks really nice.  OP, do you happen to be a dev for the game?

  • vajurasvajuras Member Posts: 2,860

trying to sift through youtube for it this all I could find:

"This video demonstrates the power of the customization system built into Gnostaria. On top of being able to interchange different armor, clothing and body parts, hair and facial hair can also be changed. Gnostaria also supports changing the color of textures, for example, changing skin or hair color.

While this video demonstrates both arms / legs / hands / feet changing simultaneously the game actually supports individual parts being effected. For example, Gnostaria will support an injury system in which its possible for monsters or even players to lose a hand, foot or arm in extreme circumstances. These types of injuries will be reflected visually on the model."

looking good yo. I love indie games myself I always play Half life 2 mods. I was helping test an Indie MMO that was skill-based a few months ago but I guess the devs lost interest. And its a real shame I spent many, many hours grinding up my skills to cap. And they wouldnt even let us talk about it on public places like here.

Was a real shame. Anyway don't be like those guys hype your work

Can anyone tell from the random screenshots on the games website, if they are using the Realm Crafter program for this title? The building in particular kind of looks like to be a standard RC model.

I was thinking the same thing, but the character models are WAY too detailed for RC. Unless there has been a recent update. Blitz3D isn't base equipped for upgrades, and I know RC wasn't programmed in BlitzMax, which WOULD allow for such things... so i'm curious as well.

Thanks for the kind words and interest in Gnostaria.  I'm the lead developer over at Gnostaria.com (my username over there is Zeruel) and original creator of this game / game world.  Gnostaria is the spiritual successor to a highly modified NWN persistent world called "Dark Century X" that I created back when NWN was originally released (I believe almost 6  years ago now?).  DCX is not based on AD&D / Forgotten Realms / NWN at all and merely utilized the NWN game as a base to develop the game.  The world is loosely based on the history and backstory established for "Dark Century X" and the subsequent events that occurred in the years that the server has been running.

Gnostaria takes place approximately 500 years after the last occurrence of an event known as the "dark century" however technology has not significantly advanced (in some cases it has been lost) while ancient and forgotten magics and dangers have also been revealed as a result of this cataclysm.

Two forces rule over all existence in Gnostaria, a force that would mostly be associated with "order" known as Bythos and another mostly associated with "chaos" known as Samael, aka "The Blind Eye" (represented as a snake with one closed eye and one open eye with an X through the pupil and X-shaped scaring outward from the eye socket).  These forces exist far beyond the realm of consciousness in the mortal realm and do not directly interact with with the physical reality.  Below them exist beings of various intelligence and essentially supernatural or god-like powers that rule over various elements of the world and afterlife and in rare circumstances would have a direct impact on events in the world.  Turmoil between the immortal struggle of Bythos and Samael and the deeds of their underlings lead to significant events in the world that are the things of legends.

The complete back story is still being developed and I'm very interested in seeing that people actually look for this kind of information.  I classify Gnostaria as a "Persisten World Online Role Playing Game" simply because we are not trying to create what people typically expect in the "MMO" genre -- often mindless leveling and item harvesting for the sole purpose of being able to kill ever more powerful monsters to into perpetuity.  A fairly brief but concise description about the goal of Gnostaria can be found here:

    www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/gnostaria

As someone mentioned, Gnostaria will be skill-based as opposed to level-based.  Players advanced skills and stats by performing actions that utilize those skills.

We are very small team right now so we don't have as much time as we would like to make a lot of public announcements or present our plans or game design.  On that same note, most people find out about Gnostaria by word of mouth right now.  We intend to become more public within the next few months as more of the game becomes completed.

A really great blog that one of our testers has been writing in (which mostly includes screenshots at the lowest graphics settings, but otherwise good information) can be found here:

    gnostaria.blogspot.com

We do listen to what people have to say and take all suggestions and questions into account even if we don't make a direct statement on them.   As I mentioned we are a small, truly independent team so we can get away with making a game that isn't meant to appeal to "everyone" but that we think many people will enjoy for its depth and high level of interaction and opportunities for experiencing things with other players that you don't often find in MMOs.

For the game client and some basic server functionality we are using a highly modified TGEA (Torque Game Engine Advanced) by Garage Games and completely custom back-end server and data persistence technology.  The building models were all custom created for Gnostaria although the buildings that appear in most of the screenshots will be replaced at some point in the future.

As both a long time gamer (and playing "MMOs" since they were text-based games known as MUDS :P) and software engineer it seems like there's always a balancing act between hyping a game too much, too soon, and not letting people know you exist at all.

We definitely want to over-deliver rather than over-promise, so we have been letting word about Gnostaria spread primarily by word of mouth.  We're very happy with how the game is shaping up and think it will be worth "hyping" in the next few months (probably about 2 months from now).

It seems very interesting and unique in the world of recent MMORPG's (that I'd call e-sports more than the classification they behold).

I would become a fan of Gnostaria rapidly I guess.

    Sounds interesting..

I recommend getting it added on MMORPG.com if you want some more publicity, just shoot an email over to editor@mmorpg.com and discuss it there.

Your game looks good and I'll make sure to register to your forums.  Best of luck on your development.

Gnostaria, i registered on your page gnostaria.com and i'm waiting for confirmation mail. Is there is some issue with mailing think there is no problem if you can solve it other way.

It'd be wonderful to see your game listed 'on development'.

Collecting all info about Gnostaria it seems to be a promising game and that the Alpha test is much more than the DarkFall's one, for example.

    Great job!

Registration for the site is open.  We have had problems with the mail server in the past although this is the first report I've heard in awhile of people having trouble registering.  I will look into this.  If you register but don't get a confirmation email you can try using the "forgot password" functionality.  If this still doesn't work please try again later.  This will definitely be fixed today.

"Request password" function not working properly. I tried it and nothing happens.

I'll register today when the problem is fixed. Thanks!

After receiving recent reports that the the verification email was not being received by some people we did a complete audit on our email system and fixed a few issues. Unfortunately Hotmail still completely deletes all incoming emails from us (it doesn't even put them into the junk folder, and doesn't allow the emails even if you add webmaster@gnostaria.com as one of your personal contacts). Yahoo presently puts the emails into the spam folder but if you right click and mark "Not Spam" future emails from gnostaria.com appear to correctly go into the in box.  Gmail had no problem accepting our emails.

We also checked our IP addresses and domains against 200 email black lists (lists used and shared among email providers and others to block spam) and did not find our servers blacklisted by any of them.

All accounts that were registered with a Hotmail email address and that have never had a successful login have been deleted.  We are adding instructions to our registration form to inform people of these issues until we can find an adequate solution.

If you registered recently with a Hotmail address your account name is available again and you can register with a new, non-hotmail email address.

If you registered with a non-hotmail address but still didn't receive any emails, please let me know.
