Like Djin said, playing fanboi on computer parts isnt a good idea. If you get a 3rd party 6800GT a few can be overclocked to 6800Ultra speeds with little temperature difference. Such as with the Leadtek, Chaintech and a few others. I just bought a Leadtek 6800GT and when i turned on my system for the first time the screen was all grainy and messed up. I found out later that a number of people were having the same problem, theres something wrong with the Leadteks (i dont know if this is the case with all their cards but their GTs are messed up). Im sending back my Leadtek and exchanging it for a Chaintech. Both cards have extremly efficient heatsinks that allow them to do big overclocks and remain prefectly stable.
Also 6800s come with alot of features that the X800s dont, like PS3.0 and SM3.0. Also i think SOE has a deal with Nvidia (similar to Valve and ATI) so EQ2 will probably run better on a 6800.

The "deal" you're talking about is an endorsement. Everquest II may run better with an nvidia card, that may be true, but not because the nvidia name is on the box.
The developers are going to program so that the game runs as best as possible with any card. The deciding factors will be in the card construction, features, and performance, not who's getting a "deal".
Well I agree with the fact that building your own is the way to go. I personally have built my last four systems I have owned and build for friends as well, but if you really wanna go with a brand name box and blow a full 2 grand, I would go with Falcon Northwest or Voodoo PC. Those guys build some top notch systems that I feel smoke the lowly Alienware boxes.

The biggest mistake is that ATI card. You can run the 6800 GT with 350w no problem.
Plus the ATI x800 isn't PS 3.0... another mistake. Other then that, it's a nice rig.
