Well first off i would like to say i am making the leap from wow and age of crap to warhammer. I preordered the game from direct2drive and everything went really well. They sent me the open beta, items and head start codes immediately. So i highly recommend you purchase from them if you want no issues.
My questions are the following. Is the open beta cd key used for the live launch as well, or will direct2drive send a live cd key also? I also wanted to know if the game includes a free month of gameplay, i haven't seen that stated anywhere during my purchase.
Thanks for any info, cya guys around the 15th. I have high expectations for this game .

I too bought the preorder from D2D, and have the same question, im guessing we will be issued a seperate key on release or that the head start key = first month.
Its been stated (I'll let you do the search) that there will be a grace period for people to actually receive their pre-ordered package for the cd key . I forget how long, but it was very reasonable.
Interesting... if you pre-order through Amazon they give you both keys.
D2D is digital download ther is no wait.
For the other poster we did get 2 keys 1 for open beta one for headstart/items. but not the first month .
Ok so i search grace period and absolutely nothing comes up for warhammer. Details on everything seem so vague... We receieved 2 keys for the beta and head start but does anyone actually know if we will be sent a live cd key from direct2drive?
Will we be receieving a month free? Will it start during the head start? After? Just saying to search something doesn't do much in terms of helping, especially when it brings up nothing.

D2D pre-order are special, they made you pay for the whole game already, so my guess is the key you used for the open beta is the same as the retail one since you already paid the full game price.
For peoples pre-ordering the game in a store you only have to pay 5-10$ to "reserve" yourself a copy of the game when it will release. So these peoples would need to upgrade their account with the retail key.
I didn't simply say to do a search. I gave you the information. I meant that you'll have to search for the source/original information since i don't have a link to it.
But because I'm a nice guy I did a very quick search for you:
http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=115
And I'll quote the pertinent part for you just in case you can't find it.
While we encourage you to get your WAR product key as soon as possible, we will provide a reasonable grace period for players to get a hold of their copies and have uninterrupted service following the Live Game Head Start.
As for a free month, while that is the standard I was unable to find anything to quote for you. I'll let someone else help you on that.
All I have to say is be GLAD that you didn't pre-order from GoGamer. They sent me a confirmation of my purchase (to the email I registered with, of course), and when I try to log in to their site now, it says there is no account with that email address. Mind you I had to give them my credit card information to pre-order as they only accept PayPal for straight out purchases, not pre-orders. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
So I have NO idea where or when or even IF I get my beta key, or even who has my money. I did email their "help" email address. We'll have to see if anything comes of that.
So....things could be worse.

I drove to my local Gamestop and bought it at the counter. That way if someone snarfs up (other than shipper) I have people to speak harshly to on a face to face basis.

This does not answer his question. This is in relation to playesr that Pre order the BOX version of the game. The OP is asking about D2D which is a Direct Download purchase no box. OP you really should email D2D they'll be able to answer your question. Its possible that the codes they give you for the Head Start is also your CD Key. D2D clients are going to be flagged differently if this is the case. Its also possible they don't give you the CD Key until the game is available for Download.
Most people here have ordered the Box Version.
Ya i feel bad for anyone that is having issues with preordering from certain websites / stores. For the most part everyone is getting what they paid for but some are getting short changed. I personally went with direct 2 drive because i never had a problem with them and the product keys are always email instantly. I also like them because they don't charge a sales tax, this adds up to a good amount of savings when you buy games frequently.
In regards to the grace period... Ya its nice that they are giving a few extra days to get your account set up if you are having any problems but it really not on topic with the questions those of us have that purchased from direct 2 drive. We want to know if we will be needing any additional keys once live starts. Then there is the issues with billing, not really knowing if we get a month of free game time or not.
So many details are being left out of our purchases and the beta is just a week away. Aguitha made some good points, hopefully thats how the direct 2 drive keys will work. It would make perfect sense but its not really anything official. Oh and btw Aguitha i love you avatar, failcom should be their new slogin .

I'd of gone D2D if I didn't want the Collector's Edition, although in all honestly the lack of sales tax is hardly a reason to use D2D...you'd think getting D2D would mean a cheaper price since you get no box, no directions, no cds your essentally paying what everyone else paid without all the materials you paid for. Not to mention if your PC goes down you and you didn't burn yourself a back up copy of the client & your product keys your Fucked.
You can only get the Collector's Edition by buying the box. HOnestly I've had no problems with my orders most stores & websites are incredibly reliable. In Store service issues usually occure the most with Gamestop / EB stores while website problems occurse the most with smaller web retailers. I stuck with Amazon I got my keys immediately and I've been eagerly awaiting all the goodness that is the CE and all its glorious benefits including entrance into CB.
bathis makes some good points about the collector's edition, but (for the record) his assessment of D2D is inaccurate. I've bought many games from them and you do get a manual with your purchase, just a pdf, but you still get one. The big thing that is off is the "no backup of game if pc goes down." This is entirely inaccurate. D2D allows unlimited downloads of files you've purchased, so you can dl it as many times as you want. They also offer five activations per game, so if your hard drive crashes, or you get a new pc, you can reactivate up to four times after your first. And if you still have trouble reactivating, D2D will gladly reset your activations if you contact support. They did this for me with Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.
As for the OP, contact support through their ticket system to answer your questions. You may have to wait a day or two for a response, but in my experience (I've probably sent a total of 5 tickets in), D2D has some of the best customer support reps I've ever dealt with.
Hoped that helped.
No the code for the ingame idems is the live headstart too as much as i know cause it says it on my target pree code sheet
I already sent in a ticket, once i get a reply ill show it here for everyone to see. I just wish for future reference game companies would be more sufficient when it comes to info especially when you buy the game as a digital download. I see it like well you paid 5 bucks for a preorder wait and see what happens, but when you paid the full amount they should at least tell you the little things like when we are getting the live key and if the first month is free etc.
Like i said though ill post as soon as i get a reply.

Dam i guess people in Canada can't order from d2d, that sux. I wonder why that would be?
The codes you got is only for open beta, live head start and the 2 items.
When the game releases you will get an new code and that code is used as the gamecode.
so in total 4 codes.

Yes it does. No where does the faq say anything about a box version. "Copies" does not neccesarily mean a box version since Mythic is aware that D2D versions exist. He asked..."Is the open beta cd key used for the live launch as well, or will direct2drive send a live cd key also?"
If you're in the headstart event you've already used a key code. If you use the same one for game launch why would the faq state that you need a grace period for getting another one? Therefore he needs a second key which his seller will have to provide him.
