PVE question

How will PVE work in WAR please?

As I do not see the normal well defined split of tank - healer - dps - hybrid classes.

Which class is likely to take up either role? Or will PVE be completely different from other mmorpg games like WoW. LoTRO, Vanguard ,, where everyone has their specific function in a group?

I really want to give WAR a try but I am a PVE orientated gamer so I was wondering.

Thanks.

WAR's class system is base around the idea of archtypes (general class descriptions) of which there are 4.

Tanks, Healers, Melee dps, and ranged dps.

So there's your pve holy trinity.  Now the tanks and healers are more offensively oriented then most other mmos and the dps has a few more defense skills but the core is still there.

Ok thanks, by just looking at the class description it wasn't clear at all.

They do have the PvE holy trinity but tanks have a purpose in PvP and there are no "real" healbots. The Runepriest and Zealot come closest to that however. Classes are balanced around PvP first so that's why you see every class has to do damage, even healers - or else the heals won't be as effective.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

As far as I can see not every race has their 'tank, healer and dps' so it seems people will have to mix up constantly.  I had the feeling it was 'each race for themselves' mentality. And they all would be defending their own city constantly, not being arsed with other races problems. But as not all will have their own city to defend I guess everyone will mix up automatically... Maybe that's why they made that decision...

I am thinking or rolling darkelf cause friends will probably be Chaos, but who wants a whole city without a tank . Can't see the witchelf, disciple or sorceress take the damage :-/

Yeah, WAR is not really based on race v. race. It is realm v. realm, even at the very early levels (Tier 1) you will see toons from different races in the scenerios you partake in and the PQs you participate with. The worry is understandable, but the gauranteed mixing of the races and the easy transportation that exists between different race territories makes it more of a non-issue.

If you are truly concerned, stick with Choas. They have all 4 arch-types and the city.

Ok thanks, one thing is for sure it will definitely be different and I am curious. Reminds me a bit of AoC where race defines the archetype instead of anyone can be anything. Naturally gives the need to mix up, travel around and visit eachother, I like that.

That is the official "party line" reason why they cut the cities. The real reason is that the cities are simply so huge they ran out of time and wanted to get the game launched this decade  Having said that, the devs have said a few times now that players in beta were not working together enough and that they were staying in their own lands too much. Mythic wanted everyone to muckin and lay seige i massive battles outside a city, not stay seperate. So, if and when the cities do get patched in, expect to see somekind of rvr rotation to keep us all focused on one city at a time.
