    Truth FTW!

We only remember the good times!

Your saying you don't remember the hours upon hours of watching dancers because someone flamethrowered and wounded you for 600+ wounds.

Or the instant kill headshots through your armor, or the fact that even with your stats mitigated the best way possible you still couldn't wear a full suit of comp armor.

I mean who doesn't like to remember the terrible stuff about the past. One reason it doesn't bother me that much to see it gone.

What they need to give to me, to make up for all these mistakes, is a classic server and a complete graphics update, a good one.

There will never be a roll-back or a classic server ever. The game will never be what it was so either play the game the way it is and help make it better,or go play wow or some other game ,rest assured you will never see SWG pre-cu ever again unless the emulator guys get it going in which it will never run like the old game either.

Ummm. The EMU runs very well. It IS real pre cu. They literally backwards enginierd the updates off the code.  It IS going just fine. They just implimented stims, and buff packs. Almost everything is done except housing on the test server. I will send links to whoever PM's me. It's open to the public. PVP events are happening often. It's legal because it's free. They can't charge for it to make a profit.

Infact it runs BETTER then the "old" game did. They are a dev team totally open to the players. They list every update to the code. A game fixed for players by players.

Infact SOE's stance is utter amazement at the fact people were able to accomplish this.

Try it before you make your "never" assumtions like this. The ONLY reason you don't hear about it here is because the Mods here will send you a ban warning when you mention it (like they have me, and most likely will again for writing this), because it makes SOE cry, at the fact there are more people playing it then NGE.

I can't honestly see what either of these would help in anything other then soe admitting (rightly or wrongly) that they made a mistake and the game looks downright ugly (always did really). The unfortunate truth is that there are a lot of perverted people who like sitting around watching dancers in skimpy clothes and the style of gameplay swg offers at the same time, and I doubt any future sw mmo would follow the current gameplay structure, or the old school structure.

Also storyline wise, a sw mmo set in the old republic would accomidate hordes of jedi, which imo, is plain boring (my main complaint about the way it is now, not so much a storyline issue, but a veriety issue).

Whatever LA does is fine by me, but for some reason I doubt it'll be shutting down swg. I think any shutting down of swg would be prompted by SoE first, and they're an unusually persistant company in regards to keeping things up as pay to play.

i see the most likely situation that will arise is Lucas Arts canning SOE's SWG license as soon as this new MMO comes out.  what are your views on this?  how should SWG proceed? what games will you move to (some will even if SWG stays afloat)

i feel this community needs to have a voice in this new MMO and needs some help in dealing with this news.  ex Auto assault players would know how hard it is to suddenly (without your consent) stop playing an MMO that you have poured time into

SWG may not be the best MMO out there but it sure is different.  and in this MMO winter thats always a good thing

edit: added in the last line

SWG won't be scrapped as long as it generates any amount of profit.  The game most likely shares server farms with most of SOE's products thereby lowering their operational costs and the size and quality of the SWG dev team is so minimal that that can not be very expensive for them to run.

While I am pretty sure that the new mmo from bioware/la will be in the star wars universe it will not be during the same time frame.  Also, they will be two very very different games.  There is no reason for Lucas to pull the plug as two games will can run concurrently.

Now, here comes the rub.  If the vast majority of the 20-30k people that still play SWG are only doing so because it's the only star wars game in town then SWG may see another exodus from their game.  If it is enough people they will bump up the station access pass again, and if it's a huge exodus.... well, then SOE will operate it until the contract with Lucas Arts runs out and they can sunset it.

Well, I played on the test server for the "DUCK" and they are working the bugs out of it , the quests will have to rewritten by volunteers ,as they can't be copied from the old game, but the spawning is going to be different ,so they don't have to make a new spawn for everyone on the same quest. The loot i got was the white  Armor and the Guy at the fort in Best--- switched me from Reb.to Imp.I got a speeder and weapons from the "frog ",that was a NPC near starting point.

The enhanced downloader, they created ,made the game update to the "DUCK" on the old un-updated software. I'm wondering if I start with my old Limited Edition"DUCK" software ,if the sunglasses and special car will show up.

But I got banned from the "DUCK", because the game "random name generator", issued me a game name that was offensive ,to the self installed GM.    So stand warned,  They have over 30k members so they are ahead of the Old new improved DUCK in some sense.   LOL !!

PS. I own every Space themed software licenced by LA and most of Mr.Nimoys STrek software and own 3 paid accounts in the Old new improved DUCK. If all go away I'll go full time to Eveonline.

I just don't see why people keep talking about shutting down SWG.  Will they eventually have a server merge? Yes.  Will they stop development of new content? Yes.  Will they only patch and update eventually? Yes.

EQ is still going despite being ages old(granted it wasn't royally screwed by SOE as far as I know) and Planetside is pretty terrible yet it continues to be a choice of a game for people to play.

SWG isn't going anywhere despite what we would want.  Not for a few more years at least.

Tbh, I just hope that SOE is honest with people if it comes to the game shutting down.  I'd like to see them give people at least a couple months notice, so they can say their goodbyes and party 'till the lights go out.  A nice game ending event (that works) would be gravy.

What I hope they don't do is tell people that the game has a bright future with incredible new content coming if they know they're shutting it down.  I'd hate to see them mislead people again just to maximize revenues before they pull the plug.  I half expect them to do this, but I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Also, I probably will check out a new StarWars MMO.  At the moment, I spend most of my online leisure time in City of Heroes, and enjoy that very much.  Other MMOs that interest me are Stargate and Star Trek.  My favourite genres are sci-fi and superhero :)  I grew up watching StarTrek and StarWars, and reading superhero comics.

Humm other games when they shut down have even less time like:

"We have reached our time limit to find a solution that would help us keep the Fury servers open. Sadly, no solution has been found and so we have no alternative than to shut the servers down in 48 hours."

No other game has been subjected to as low ethics and bad company-customer relations as SWG has.  The players old and new deserve to say goodbye to the countless hours of work they put into this game.

I don't have faith in SOE under the "leadership" of John Smedley to treat the players well, but it would be a nice gesture.  Nothing is going to change the lies, the fraud, the misrepresenation, the bans and deletions, or the bait-and-switch that took place, but it would be a nice gesture.

well the mods dont care so i dont care its their rule not mine lol.  I noticed he said he got banned when I skimmed his thread and saw his info and well according to the sticky your not supposed to speak of such things or risk evil doings happening to you.  IN any event I guess they aren't concerned about this any longer :)

The game was striped off all content, and the NGE put in it's place, Hence why Krayt Dragons started to spawn like crazy again after NGE update, there was only 2 that spawned on bria before that.

Certain quest lines that were broken for year misteriousely started to work again, yet newer quests released just before the nge were broken.

I have a home for SWG, but again, just way too much screwing around with the game, too many quests stay broken for too long, hell, it took everyone to exploit boba fet quest in order to get them to fix the whole thing...

I Say when/if new Bio MMO comes out, that SWG get locked down to 3 different servers, One for NG, noe for CU and one Pre-cu, would honestly say it would be sad to see it all go, but then again when they say the NGE was a mistake yet do nothing... kinda makes ya mad, if they made a pre-cu/cu server I bet thier subs would double maybe even triple when that happens, yet they don't.....

SOE seems to find the lowest common denominator in the MMO field, and then set that as the standard they need to meet or barely surpass.  You can justify almost anything if you think this way.  You may be able to convince yourself that you're alright (works better if you're drunk), but everyone else still sees the bullsh*t for what it is.

Why not look at how thriving companies deal with their customers and set that as your standard?  And no that doesn't mean copying their 9 professions and putting an xp bar along the bottom of the screen.  It means learning how to value customers and treat them with dignity.  That's the only way to earn respect and customer loyalty in the long run.

Your current SOE customers (those that remain) may be your future SOE customers, if you stop pissing on them and telling them it's raining.

I don't really see any kind of future for SWG, nor any other SOE games for that matter. It's little details that can easily annoy the customers, swapping the yes/no/accept/cancel buttons and changing "CSR" to "GM" for starters. The customer satisfaction isn't really in the minds of SOE, none of this would have happened if it were so.

SWG may not be the best MMO out there but it sure is different. and in this MMO winter thats always a good thing
SWG was far different to other MMOs back then than it is now, SWG is currently trying to be like the other MMOs- heroic instances, combat rolls, loot this and loot that gameplay, etc.

couldn't agree more, but would add that when they copy other mmo's they do it really badly
