How big would a beta download be?

Seems to me, if they need 2 DVDs or 10 CDs to ship the game... then the beta download has *got* to be limited to people with broadband. It would take *days* with 56K!

The beta update for today mentioned 'open' beta... is this just for the people already registered or is it truely open and anyone can join?

    Lets do the math.

    1 CD = 700Mb [give or take]

    10 CD = 7000Mb

    So, that's 7GB.  I can download 160k a second...   Would take me a few hours.  I downloaded SWG under 2 hours.  I believe that was just over 2Gb.

    Ive read some people say the beta download so far is 3.25GB in size.

    Obviously as the game grows from patches every week or so, so does the beta game size..

    I wonder if they have excluded some of the VO in the beta.  Would save on download time and I don't think they are really going to want beta testers testing the synchronization of lips to actual speech.

    There are voice overs from what ive read from people in beta. But only VO's that have been made so far.

    Actually, I believe the only reason that the Beta download is so small is because they are only letting the testers explor in the nearby zones of their home city. The Devs said they would let them explore a bit further as time goes on and release draws nearer.

    So, expect the download size to increase. =)

    The beta took me a total of 10 hours to download on a DSL connection. I just left it on over night. In the morning, i awoke with 3 minutes left to download, then i played all day! New patches are released every now and then, and take approximately 3-5 minutes to download, again on DSL.
