Looking for a good Sandbox mmo?

BattleskarBattleskar Member Posts: 341

The Saga Of Ryzom is now back online for those who had paid accts. before the servers went down. They will soon be open to everyone.I tried this game just before the servers went down and all I can say is that it was the most amazing mmo world I have ever entered. It had probably the best AI I have seen as well. This game deserves better and needs to be handled right this time.I really hope they advertise it correctly and hopefully get it out to store shelves as well.If you are looking for a good game this is it,freedom. This game actually made me feel like I was on another world somewhere,I saw the seasons change before my eyes,Animals Migrating with the seasons(which was awesome to see in a game). The sounds, the way the wildlife reacted as you approached them was very immersive.I plan on subscribing to this game as soon as they allow new players to join and hope to find a good guild right off the bat. It is Good News to hear this game is coming back, and I look forward to what is ahead for me in Atys. Old SWG Vets that still have not found what you lost with Pre-CU? You need to give this game some consideration, although its not Star Wars I think the immersion factor will make you glad you tried it:P

Did you miss the good news? The servers are being opened up to everyone who had an account (free-trial or paid) in a few days - and for free. [edited]

I will happily be returning to my old guild there, The Soul Guild. They were great. But even complete strangers were pretty helpful when I was playing so I suspect there are a lot of really good guilds to choose from.

Unfortunately I can't find a current list. Does one exist? It's the sort of resource that would be very helpful to new players.

This might be an up-to-date list of Kami guilds:

    Can anyone do better?

Since the Kitin have swarmed and been running around enjoying themselves for a while devastating Atys with nobody to oppose them, we need you to regain control of the world and push them back. Because of this, we have now decided to re-open the game in a few days for free to ALL ACCOUNTS, Free Trial included. This means that everyone who has an active account, including Free Trial ones, will be able to return to Ryzom and join in the fun for free! This should happen shortly next week.

    Talking about SWG much?

    @randomt

this is the news i talked about. only player with an excisting account can play. but they did not say that new player can register and play for free.

  • green13green13 Member UncommonPosts: 1,341

Fair correction then on it not being for everyone - though the OP has an existing account so it's still good news for him.

But randomt was right in correcting you that there was in fact news about the servers opening for free (for some of us).

I've gone back and edited that post so I don't confuse anyone.

New players should join the Karavan side because the Kami dominate the English speaking server now.

    Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...

ok i didnt play a lot before they went bancrupt, but last i heard was that the outposts were still mostly in karavan hands... (i can be wrong tho, didnt check it, and for me outpost got a bit boring after some time)

And Rturja, thanks for pointing to Evo.. Although I wonder why we earned that ;)

Haha, the Kamists always love to recruit for the Karavan guilds that fight on the Kami side though Evo is mainly non-pvp.  Now that Kami dominate outposts far more than the Karavan ever did, Nexus and Kami Toukon with 3 outposts apiece, how hypocritical those Kami cries of "we just want parity" sound.  :)

  • rturjarturja Member Posts: 199

About as hypocritical as starting to recruit here, in neutral turf in the first place. I reckon the honeymoon time in Ryzom for VIP's is over and the usual bickering can continue :P

I left the game neutral and still do not belong to either side of the fence, so this was not Kamist recruiting anyone as I am not returning into Ryzom unless massive changes happen. Keep my post as a friendly poke of keeping Ryzom politics in where they belong.

yup, if we fought it was trykers we helped, and it didnt depend on kami or karavan. And in some cases we helped friends who helped us out as well...

Although we had the rule in the guild that everybody was free to fight on which side he or she liked. So in one battle there were Evo's on both sides ;)

Lol yeah! One thing I never missed was the politics or the bickering on the forums about the ' best'  side...

Oh, the recommendation of both AG and Evo still holds though, both are in my experience great peeps, politics aside!

I agree that  Ryzom  politics  should stay  where they belong.  I would never have posted except that I read your posts as blatant factional recruiting  for the dominant faction.

    Thanks - I'll bookmark that.

For new players, re politics and bickering - it isn't as bad as they're making out. You occasionally get a mildly heated remark in the chat channels but never more than that.

The factions take up opposite sides during outpost battles, but otherwise help, get along with and team up with those people during regular gameplay.

It's all terribly civilised. Almost British even.

Pick whichever faction takes your fancy, or stay neutral if you prefer. Also know that you don't pick your faction at creation - it's a reputation thing - so you can play for a while and then decide. From the manual:

    Kamis & Karavan

The major Atysian forces, the Kamis and the Karavan, are at the very

least held in awe if not venerated by homins. They possess intimate

knowledge of the world at large as far back as creation and constitute

an authority on the arts of magic or technology.

The Kamis are the guardians of plant life and the organic balance of

the world. They taught homins the art of magic.

The Karavan watches over hominkind and spreads the holy word of

the Goddess Jena. They are masters of an unknown technology with

    devastating powers.

The Kamis and the Karavan follow different ways, for many centuries

these two forces have kept their distance, observing one another in a

cold war. But this could change, and more troubles occur in the future.

I am also an old SWG vet that moved to Ryzom and I highly reccomend this game to old SWG vets, well anyone actually, that wants game complexity again! This game has a pretty steep learning curve at first but it is well worth trying and don't worry about it get in the universal chat channel and ask questions the players in this game are very mature and helpfull, but please try the different things out yourself first before asking because once you ask you will get anwsers and to me the best part of the game was figuring stuff out for yourself just like I did back in my Pre-CU days that was the best part of the game to me!

Also if you think that the returning player base will not help you out in groups don't worry there are loads of skill trees to train for combat and magic as well as resource harvesting! The only tree that you can't group on is the crafting tree and that is only because it can only be done solo but ask if you need help!

The world itself is very immersive the seasons change as well as the weather! The wildlife Ai is the best is have ever seen in a MMO! The herd animals do just that, theyherd up and if you attack one and other are near they will also attack! they also migrate to better pastures in the different seasons. Also the predators actually hunt the prey animals and may follow thier migratory routes!

As the leader of a Kara guild, I of course would love to have an influx of new members...

But don't choose your guild because you want to balance the political scene. Find the people you like to play with, that provide you with the environment that fits you best. Better for everyone when people are in the right place, and bad for everyone when otherwise.

There are great guilds on all sides of the factional divide, including neutral guilds.

And as has been mentioned, outside of actually during battles and a very few silly people who take things too seriously, everyone is friendly and helpful regardless of faction. For that matter, I often have friendly chats going with my friends on the other side of battles, even as they blow me up and chop me to bits. Maybe they distract me on purpose... :P

Seriously, the noise about factional hatreds are just that: noise. And usually limited to occasional forum outbursts and the like. Feel free to ignore it.

I'm looking forward to meeting all you new folks in-game ASAP! Just say hello in universe channel when you get there.

A player should get off of Silan, go out and meet the players and guilds that play at the time they are online.  Do some research, ask questions, find a guild that fits your goals and style if that is rp, pvp, synchronized swimming, whatever.  Factional balance is unimportant to some, very important to others. When the Karavan  was the stronger side, many good players and some guilds chose to join the Kamists to even things out.  A year ago, the pendulum swung and the Kamists became the dominant faction taking most of the outposts on Arispotle.   It can be very difficult for players to switch sides.  So it is all the more important that new players make an informed decision, not to be directed to choose a guild from just the Kami Alliance forum, or told misleading information about the factions.
