Alright, I just have a quick question. I see tons of MMORPG's that are in Open-Beta. This means they are FREE to try right? (Correct me if I'm wrong) Anyway, I was looking at the game Risk Your Life. It has confirmed that it will be $12.00 about a month. So if I sign up and play during the beta can I just Uninstall the game when the before Beta period ends? Im not sure if I want to purchase the game or not and if I do I will have to save for a while. So is this legal? And un-fined? Please help! Over and out!

Most open betas are free as the companies need many more people to weed out all the bugs that their small amount of paid testers cannot find. Also, I wouldn't trust a company that requires your credit card to play the beta, as I'm assuming so by you mentioning the price of the game per month.
Yes, you can uninstall before the release and nothing will happen to you. They will thank you, then give you the option to buy the game, and most companies will give you something extra for helping test the game if you buy it afterwards.

Usually BETA is "free" but you have to understand it's going to be filled with problems, graphical issues, higher system specs, etc.
Before a commercial software program is released to the public, it usually goes through an "alpha" and "beta" phase. During these stages, the software is tested for bugs, crashes, errors, inconsistencies, and any other problems. Though beta versions of software used to be made available only to developers, they are now sometimes made available for the general public to test, usually through the software company's Web site. However, because beta software is "free", the programs usually expire after a period of time. If you choose to test a beta software program, don't be surprised if it has multiple problems and causes your computer to repeatedly crash. After all, it is the beta version. You can tell if a program is still in beta by checking the program's properties. If there is a "b" in the version number (i.e. Version: 1.2 b3) that means it's a beta version.
There you go folks, what is BETA?

Actually Djin, BETA is a type of video cassette format.

A lot of companies do "open betas" so people can test the final version before the game goes gold.
You're more then welcome to download the BETA, play untill the last dieing second, and then never play again.
Usually the only way you get charge from going to BETA -> Gold is if YOU fill out an application on-line with your billing information, etc.
So yes, you can download BETAs legaly... just make sure you've read and understand the EULA. [End User License Agrement].

Keep in mind that as a beta, often even the installation isn't totally complete, meaning it may not have an uninstall feature include with the beta.exe, many cannot be uninstalled using windows add/remove programs either (recent example is the Ryzom beta).
If you are not familiar with tracking down leftover registry entries and such when manually un-installing a game, you may want to consider an uninstall program before downloading to many betas and cluttering you registry once you're finished with them.
