Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

If you got selected for beta and havent downloaded the client, READ THIS!!!!!

The download client is very, very big and with the rate its going (1-30kb) the ETA is 2 months.

There is a way to speed it up though, read this:

  • "If you're having trouble with the torrent, there's a neat little workaround. Grab a torrent client that lets you isolate and grab individual files, and just download warpatch.exe, patch.myp and patch.cfg (they're all incredibly small, under 2mb altogether). Cut and paste them into a Warhammer folder and open the patch, make sure to check off the scan-all-files box and let it download through there. It's pretty slow for a direct download but it's at least 7-8 times as the torrent."

My friend did this, and I did the normal Torrent version and I beat him by 3 hours.  I was getting 150-250kb/s though on average.

I don't know if you downloaded the client a month ago, but right now, the torrent rate is VERY slow.

Which torrent did you use? I am trying utorrent, (my port is fowarded already) and still can't break the 30 kb/s average on my cable service..

Called the cable company and they said that the torrent server I am on isn't allowing more than that rate..

    Eleven seeders

Which torrent service? Does flashnet or averus do that? Or do you know of a good one?

I'd recommend uTorrent to start, since it's very light weight and easy to use. I'll provide step by instructions for installation, port forwarding, and finally using a .torrent file.

    1) Go to http://www.utorrent.com and click "Get uTorrent"

    2) Run the .exe file to run the installer, following on-screen instructions for your own preferences.

    3) Run the program

    4) From the menu go to Options -> Speed Guide

    5) Click "Test if port is forewarded properly". A browser window will open and tell you if data can get through the port. If not we must either select an open port or open one ourselves!

I use a linksys router, so i'd follow the instructions found in the following link. However, using the link in the above section you can find step by step instructions for your own router.

    http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/Utorrent.htm

    6) When you open a .torrent file with uTorrent a box appears asking where to save the files too. It also shows the files that will be downloaded and some other options. You can just specify a directory and click ok and the download will start.

You'll see the download in the main uTorrent window as well as stats such as the number of seeds, peers, your share ratio, download speed, etc...

So you may see something like 43 seeds 741 peers. That means 43 people are sharing the complete file, and 741 people are downloading from them AND every other peer in the swarm. Obviously your download speeds are determined by how many Seeds and Peers you can connect to. But the beauty is that the more people there are the higher speeds you can get! On my 10Mbit/s cable I've seen downloads over 1 megabyte per second!

Just use µTorrent or BitComet, thats what I use.

Download the client, either from the official site or from TorrentReactor/ThePirateBay, then select all the files that has "patch" in it, and move them to a seperate folder. From there, run WarPatcher.exe, and off you go, fella.

My brother tried this and it does require you to login to get the patches. He stopped once that popped up. Basically he's concerned with the potential of banning since they can obviously associate the patching with an actual account. (I don't have to worry even if I get a late invite...lol I'll just drive the 3 miles round trip and get his download).

While I know this 'patch trick is working for folks, I would do so with care. Will they ban? Probably not but for the moment I personally wouldn't chance it even if I had access. Everyone has to make their own decisions though.

I downloaded it yesterday.  Took roughly 16 hours.  Once I forwarded my listen port for BitComet it seemed to go smoothly.  I seeded for the rest of the night until work started this morning.  (Work from home, can't seed while working.)

I will seed again all night tonight and tomorrow night, etc.  Honestly I showed very few seeds but I still maintained an average of around 160+.

I personally don't see the logic why this would get bannable. If they would ban for this, I'd stop playing. There is no way I am downloading with a 1-30kb rate on a huge file.

Your brother should really calm down, I am patching right now, and so are my other 2 friends who got invites aswell. We won't get banned.

Besides, I think Mythic is very budy atm, they're close to launch, everything has to be checked and be perfect, they don't have time for players that skip their slow download rates.

Personally I don't think they will ban but to me it doesn't make a lot of sense to 'take the chance' when the game isn't up atm anyways. The way I see it, if you are rabid to play and the servers were up, go for it. If the servers aren't up then by running the torrent file, everyone helps everyone else a bit. (and yes you have to open up the upload rates a bit and be on for an hour or more before some of the download rates start to go up.) I know some ISPs do throttle back and that makes for a hard decision but if the game isn't up why chance it?

Again, each person has to make their own decision about the process.  I'd rather do the camaraderie thing and run the torrent but thats just how I roll.

also the higher you throttle your outbound, the faster your download is. Not sure why.

Oh and the person who is concerned about possibly being banned. Don't. Its a valid way of doing it too.

Sorry to me, its a waste of time trying to download this large file at 30kb/s or lower.  Which expected to be completed in 4 days, thats running nonstop.

I am not in beta so I am not breaking the NDA, but if you use this method you will not recieve the correct version of the Beta Client.  It will be an older version.

  • donoakdonoak Member UncommonPosts: 37

I read on the Mythic site not to use the patcher because the torrent dl is version 3.2 and the patcher will patch it back to 3.1 the old beta version. I hope that is wrong.

I just completly stopped it this morning, it's was just plain ridiuclous.   2 days later and i was up to 20%.  My average download speed was around 5kb/sec and never saw more than 3 seeders, on average there was 1 or 0.

Asking peoples to download the client this way is plain stupid.   Why is there no seeds for the file ?  Do they expect everyone to spend a whole week downloading the file ?

    I'll just play at release.
