Best PVP MMORPG

IkegIkeg Member Posts: 60

Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to the MMORPG world. I have played Guild Wars, Everquest, Everquest 2, Trial of World of Warcraft and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. I am a dedicated PVP player mainly altho I do enjoy Role-playing content I almost always go to a PVP dedicated server after I get to max level. I enjoy PVP games with well balanced content between classes, PVP specific gear, Polished interface and command issues, Teamwork to a degree (altho I do enjoy Solo PVP), and all the other PVP essentials. I enjoy hardcore games death penalty prefered. I loved Everquests PVP, Everquest 2s PVP wasn't bad, I didn't care for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes or Guild Wars PVP. I never got a chance to try World of Warcraft's PVP, but I could tell that I probably wouldn't like the game at all not my type, I'm not putting it down just not my type of game. I am wondering what a good PVP MMORPG would be. I do prefer better graphics usually. I'm not a huge fan of Free mmorpg's due to the lack of serious players and bots. If anyone has any suggestions that would be awesome.

Thanks in Advance.

Everquest and Everquest 2 Veteran.

EvE Online is pretty good if you can get past the time based training (which is both awesome and horrid at sametime)

Players can takeover space in 0.0, build deathstars, build their own jumpgates complete with passwords, build any weapon, ship, or item, and harsh penalty for those that fly what they cant afford.

It's truly unmatched. None of those other games u listed is it possible for everyone- noob and vet, to live together in same station together. In EVE you can and you will see your comrades of war everyday where you dock

I have heard negative and positive things about EVE. I have heard it is a Huge game, but I have also heard that it is almost to big and much of it simplifies down to repetiveness, but if it's PVP is good I'm willing to give it a try.

    Thanks

    Any more suggestions?

Ugh... I, like many other "low skillpoint eve players" have a love / hate, cancel / resubscribe relationship with EVE. Honestly, it's an intriguing game, but to anyone who is into PvP - especially if you've been well-known as a high-end pvp'er in other mmo's - it will hit you like a mack truck when you do research into becoming an efficient asset to a pvp group in eve. For the first month AT THE VERY LEAST, you feel completely useless while you "level up" skills to specialize for whatever role you'll be flying your frigate or cruiser in. You might as well just give them your money and only log in to train skills for the first two months. At least then you'll have the skills to fly NOOB SHIPS (frigates and cruisers) effectively enough to not just be a splattermark on the nearest planet everytime you go into pvp...

Me personally, I'm at 1.65'ish mil skillpoints on an account that is about 4 weeks old with a full set of +3 implants and the "cookie cutter" caldari achura (cookie cutter because they learn the skills you want faster), and looking at EVE-mon (a tool to calculate training time for your "template" more or less), It's still going to be about 2-3 months before I can do what I want effectively in this game, which is specializing for the ECM role in a blackbird for small gang pvp / piracy. It was bad enough it took me most of the free trial to get my learning skills up high enough to save time on that goal, but seriously, I've pvp'ed in this game already in a weak ass griffin (the ECM frigate) with low skills in a small gang, and it's just not worth it. I'm really just next to useless until I skill up some more. Maybe if you want to DPS, you can build up an effective frigate / cruiser loadout with enough skills specialized within a month, but not me...

Players that consider themselves "PvP'ers" in MMO's are some of the most meticulous gamers out there. Getting beat by other players sucks a bajillion times worse than dying to some mob. When you realize you're just going to be dying a ton your first month or two and you can't do anything about it in this game because your basic skills for your "specialization" aren't even to level 4 for the next 2 months, you'll say "f this".

Which is what many of the free trial players have done, including myself many times in the past. Only this time, I figured I'll buy 2 months, and log in just to train while I play warhammer. That way if and when warhammer starts to suck on the PvP front, I'll go back to my now-half-decently-ECM-specced-but-still-pathetically-low-skillpoint toon in EVE.

Hello Ikeg. I don't know if you're willing to wait a while for a game to finish development or not, but I'd suggest that you take a look at Mortal Online if you can wait. It will be hardcore. :)

    Lineage 2.

Hate all you want.  It's fun pvp.  All open cept watch guards in town.  You dig your own grave.  Tomorrow the Gracia update is in like Brett Favre.   Makes leveling easy enough for the whiners to shoosh.

Eve is a live action database.

Warhammer is coming out very soon, should be a great PVP game. If you have a decent system and are willing to deal with AOC's many shortcomings, then you might enjoy the messy PVP there.

It's a shame you didn't enjoy Guild Wars' PVP... that's really the only other option right now for quality PVP games. Unless you're into either hard grinding or sci fi, then i'd recommend Lineage II and EVE online.

Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

people keep thinking EVE is like World of Warcraft where you just run up to a guy, hit a few buttons, then own or get owned

EVE's nothing like that. player created professions run rampant.

The best thing a newbie can do is look into a support role like Cloaked recon scout, tackling, etc. When I was a newbie I was a scout and got by just fine. Just train up a cloak device there you go. Then expand into covops and scan probing

You can be a ninja salvager.

Hell what you newbies think us vets fly? Sure some fly Carriers and the big guns but heck few can afford that 24/7. I fly cheap little tech 2 frigates. What is that 9 day train? Frigate V, bam Taranis. Propulsion jamming, a few hours. Why are you guys training for 2-3 months I dont understand i was pvping within my 1st month

Still to this day died rarely.

There all forms of pvping and services you can provide. All sorts of roles to fill. Vets can only fly 1 ship at a time and it binds our skillpoints. We need you newbies to fill other roles.

Besides you in a little frigate that scan radius is small and you're quick.

If you like PvP to be based on player skill, fast and dynamic then AoC would be the best choice.

Note: Client have some stability issue, game lacks and decent end game content atm, and there are few bugs where players can get OP by stacking gems -> being fixed.

I play MMO's for past  10 - 11 years ( before that muds ) and I must say PvP wise AoC have one of the best systems I ever saw, other worth mentioning are DaoC and SB.

If we forget about current issue with gem stacking the fact you can be level 65 and beat the crap out of level 80 if you know what you are doing. Melee combat is really amazing and the magic one's is quite common but due how things work they have a hard time too.

Best out right now is DAoC. My list would be...

    DAoC

    Ultima Online

    EVE

    Lineage II

so far i player lineage2, wow and aoc

    l2:

very good pvp mmo but dying hurts, a lot !

the pvp is interesting and challenging but if you die on higher level you have to grind back your xp you los on death for several hours.

    wow:

didnt like pvp in wow that much (see below)

    age of conan:

you might think im crazy but the most fun i had in pvp was in aoc

the big problem is tough that conan is not nearly finished as it should be

why would i choose conan over wow and l2 ?

for me its the control of the character (or at least the illusion of that)

in l2 its run, point and click wich is kind of ok but not great

in conan it seems that every button i press results directly into an attack action of my character. it gives me the feeling its not only my level and what ability i use but also when i use it. its really strange but swiching between conan and wow, wow seems to put all my actions into a queue and i can lend back and it spoos them of. i never get that feeling from conan

Lineage 2 servers are down, and updating the new expansion Gracia. Which should allow newbies to access higher level content much faster than before. 90% of the new content was added to enhance a players experience from levels 1-65. So this is one of the best times to check it out, there will be an influx in the starting areas of rerolls, twinks and newbies alike.

I totally agree with everything Vajuras has said. EVE is the only decent online game with meaningful pvp around at the moment. You can do things that effect the gameworld unlike all the others which are just static and rather daft. It is also not a level based game so everyone can fulfil a purpose no matter how many skill points you have. Many players get driven away from it though because it is challenging to take part in the harsh unforgiving universe of EVE. Like Vajuras has said though, if you use your brain and make the right decisions then you can do well.

Me personally? Well I'm completely rubbish!......but I dont mind that because its nice to play a game that doesnt do all the thinking for you for a change. The level of complexity in EVE is quite gob-smacking actually! You are also not forced to do silly childish quests like you do in EQ2 and WoW which is a real breath of fresh air. It does have missions that you can get from npcs but unlike other mmos it doesnt play like a single player game by guiding you along a badly written story. On top of that EVE is graphically miles ahead of any other mmo......although I havent played AoC yet so I might be wrong there.

So yeah EVE is basicly THE epic PvP game at the moment. Nothing else touches it.

if you play eve you will fall asleep.....zzzzzzz.......ugh i fell asleep just THINKING about it.

WAR is going to be amazing, and I would play AoC/Dark Age of Camelot until then.

WARNING!: avoid DAoC at all costs if you have a multi core processor, something that DAoC does not support.
