I've played LOTRO before but didn't quite get hooked it the first time around and I'm considering coming back. The only problem is, I feel Rune-Keeper would work great for me but since they will only come out with the expansion, it feels like I should hold on...on the other hand, Moria is mostly lvl 50+ stuff so it seems that I would not get access to it if I decide to only come back for the expansion.
Would it be better to level up something else in the meantime to "support" a new Rune-keeper when they come out? Just looking for some thoughts, thanks!

Hello :-)
I too played the game back when it was in beta, I didn't really catch my interest either. But I've recently returned to the game, about 2 weeks ago, and I must say it's really great. Lots of stuff to do, great crafting system, tons of interesting quests and minimum grinding, every MMO gamers dream
The PvP monster play part is also quite interesting, although I haven't tried it that much.
Anyway, regarding your question wheater or not you should try the game, I think no one can answer that for you, it's up to you to decide :-)
But let me tell you, the game is really great and you won't be disappointed, so starting a character now won't hurt, that way you could support your future character (as you mentioned yourself).

Thanks for the reply, I guess it would be great to give this game another try, I've read about it a bit in the last few days and it does seem very much improved from the last time I've played it! How useful is crafting in the game? Can it really give you decent items or help you support a lower level char?
theres a 14 day trail going on play that i was able to get to level 35 during it and see quite a bit of content
At lower levels, being able to make your next tier of armor/jewellry/weapons is exciting and really helps because you don't have to buy them.
I remember how excited i was when i made my first set of silver jewellry haha. ANd it really helped my stats till i was 28 or so.
But when you get to 50 it gets really hard to make your tier 5 critical success armor. But dont worry youll get it.
give the game a shot,i personally think its awesome.
Actually LOTRO has a LOT of grinding, however thats endgame. LOTROS endgame is no different then WoW, and to be honest they are both good and lots of fun. but 35-50 theres plenty of grinding.
I play all ghame
It all depends, if your trying to get from 35-50 overnight then there is grinding , but if you take your time and do the quests with small groups fellowships, enjoy places like Goblin town instead of rushing through it then you wont grind.
Yeah crafted items are really good. At tier 5 the critical crafted items are on par with the pvp and raid items. So they are very helpful. Start playing again you will love it.

LotRO is one of those games that actually makes you WANT to take your time with leveling...it's a definite plus that the game doesn't go out of its way to force a grind on you.
It's worth picking up if you like PvE centric games...it's a great game if you're a fan of LotR or if you just want to experience a fantasy game with a better community than the one found in WoW
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
If I was in your shoes, I would wait for Moria to come out. The starter towns will be packed full of people making the new Classes LOL!
As long as we are getting more character slots that is:)
I would play up some kind of Explorer now (i.e., prospector, forester, and tailor). That way you will be rich out of your skull and free to pick any crafting proffession you like with your eventual Runemaster. You'll also be able to make your Runemaster some kickass cloth armor.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
Well when moria comes out the next tier for crafting is going to be moved up. I imagine the tier 5 SU recipes will then be like 55% instead of 35% (maxed out).
See, doing something like this sucks for all those people who spent time and money into making them Etched beryl rings and folks who spend hours grinding for mats, then finding out you gotta do it all over again to get tier 6 shit.
I hope turbine puts like 100% succes gems in moria for tier 6 crafted crits. gems or something like that to garuntee a crit would be nice.
We can only hope........
Started 3 weeks ago, Already at level 29 hunter. I'm having a good time playing. Started a new job so leveling is a tad slower fo rme now but there really is no rush to 50. Moria content will be there waiting for you.
