Worth upgrading my pc?

Hello,

as WAR is almost here, i'm wondering what sort of graphics card i'll be needing to run it maxed-out.

I currently have 2 x 3870s, along with an e2180 @3.2 and 4gb 800mhz ram.  I'll be playing at 1920x1200 - does anyone know if my 3870s will be sufficient to run WAR with all the bells and whistles, or is it time to upgrade to a 4870 x2 or GTX280?

Cheers

The CPU has never held me back, except in SupCom (but that's an exception!)

They system you got looks great to me. Should be able to max on AoC so i am highly sure you can max out in WAR.

you will run WAR nicely and smoothly with that config no worries m8.

What about when they roll out the zerg?

I don't know how much things have changed but once you get attackers and defenders of a keep...

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Play it and find out. I am running way under what you have but I don't plan on upgrading until the holidays for the obvious price drops and my 2-3 year upgrade plan.

The system requirments for war are so low, seems more like your showing off your specs :P.

You didn't mention sound card but I am assuming it's reasonable. If not and you are into 'surround' quality might change that. Otherwise all looks fine.

Nothing to show-off really mate, it wasn't one of those 'i have a £4000 Alienware PC, will i be able to run WAR' idiot-type posts which seem to crop-up now and then - Which I agree are total epeen posts.

The minimum requirements don't necessarily mean the required system specs needed to run it at maximum detail @ 1920x1200 are also low.

Anyway, thanks for the helpful responses.  I'll just wait and see how things run in a few weeks (can't wait!).

    Alienware/Schmellyware

Real PC Enthusiasts BUILD THE RIG

Speaking of which, and sort of off topic, the cost of building a really nice system has dropped considerably. Ive built two FULL computers. My first cost me 1500+ about 3 years ago. I just built my second maybe 3 weeks ago and spent roughly 300 less and have at least twice the computer.

(quad core cpu, 4 gigs of gaming ram, 22 inch lcd, ATI 4850, Asus Mobo, 600gig HD, 600w Antec psu, coolermaster case..new mouse, headset, speakers, keyboard)

You try that with a "namebrand" and your spending ALOT more money.

I would never buy a pre-built machine... I just used Alienware as an example and agree that they are incredibly overpriced and also have poor build quality (a colleague has one and it is surprisingly crap for what it cost).

I built the above in January (which was also my second build).  It's amazing what you can get for the money if you chuck it together yourself.  Not only do you spend less, you generally get better quality components and you get to choose exactly what you want.  Overclocking is also well worth doing.

How are you getting on with the 4850?

I like Goblins (had to try and keep this thread WAR related!)

your computer is faster than 99% of the worlds computer users. you are fine for the next few years. i'm slightly confused as to why you're even asking when your computer is amazingy fast. i'm guessing someone else picked out the parts for you?

nope. care to fill me in? if you knew a lot about computers you wouldn't need to ask this question. since you asked, there is no reason to keep reading.

i have your exact computer, but with only 1 3870 and i could run aoc in that same resolution with everything on.

I'll simplify my inital question - Will WAR run @ 1920 x 1200 with AA/AF et al. at a decent FPS with my current rig.

There's no need to turn a simple question into a flame war.

Edit - Your edit regarding AoC was more like the kind of feedback i was looking for

If you really want to upgrade your System, you should do it as long the prices are low like now.

You should watch the GPU market carefully, since ATI got they're asses back to force Nvidia to drop the prices extremely.

Same goes for RAM i never guessed that you get 4GB of Ram for 70$.

  • zeroburritozeroburrito Member Posts: 84

if you had to upgrade i would start with the cpu.
