Just a simple yes/no question that seems to be tearing up the official forums :/

Yes, only for certain large scale ships and campaigns where they make sense. In this case, specifically as bridge crew. General crew obviously will be NPC driven.

Doubt that many people played or remember Dungeon Siege, but you commanded a group of 5 or so individuals, instead of just one dude (or naked night elf). I enjoyed that aspect since you could control them all, equip them, use them based on their abilities as needed, etc.  The best part was they all were leveling and improving as you progressed. This is one of the things that will set this game apart, and something I'm looking forward to.

YES, player crew for larger ships (or mixed if there aren't enough people fo all position) and soloing with smallest one.

ps: dungeon siege is a single player game

We already get a player crew.  Are you asking if it should be PC or NPC?

Voted yes.  However I agree with the idea of using it more on large ships.  I think on a smaller scale the AI bridge crew is best way to go.

Err......I'm asking if you'd prefer a PLAYER crew as oppose to a NON-PLAYER crew

I would love it. But its not going to happen. They would need to add another year of planning and production to impliment that into the game and time is money in the MMORPG world.

npc crew, the game just wouldn't work with player only crews.  Although i do agree with a possible option to replace npc's with players.

as for the bigger/better ships only being available to groups, if i understand how the game works(based on the limited information available) isn't this just a level cap for anyone not in a group.  And what would you do if your crew isn't online?

Everyone talks about wanting a player crew but what would you really expect these people to do?

What is the captain going to do that won't take away from other peoples jobs?

What is communications supposed to do?  Do they really have anything worthwhile?

What is security supposed to do when there isn't an away mission or a boarding mission?

What is medical personnel supposed to do when there aren't injuries to be healed immediately?

What will the engineer do when the captain doesn't need that last little bit from the dilthium crystals?

What will the weapons person do?  fire weapons?  Isn't that depriving the captain of the fun of his starship?

What will the pilot do?  Fly the ship? Isn't that depriving the captain of the fun of his starship?

My point is, are you expecting a bunch of mini-games for these people that simply eat up time?  Or are people really asking for is a way to carry personnel (other players with you) and then bring them on missions?  The latter part is sort've achieved with the current vision of just having multiple captains beam down to a missin (yes, a bit corny but it gets the job done).   I just read about pepople wanting player crews but never read about what the expectations for those people are supposed to be other than assume they'd twittle their thumbs.

the multiplayer ships from star wars galaxies were mentioned in another post as a reference to npc/pc crews.  I had 3 multiplayers ships there and they definitely suffered from no npc option,  all they ever really did is sit around and collect dust

I think it should be designed (and hope it's designed) where you can always use any mixture of NPC/PC crews if my crew is only three man I should be able to have 2 friends mand positions and my npc man the third I don't see how this would be difficult.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I think the optimum solution is for STO to launch without player crews so that Cryptic can see how people actually play the game.

A later expansion can allow for optional player crews based on how people actually behave in-game. But yes, the critical issue is "how to make the mini-games fun and necessary". Having played Puzzle Pirates I think that system works, but I don't think would fit very well in the ST universe. Would players be happy if the captain made every decision and they were left just tweaking the engines for speed?

i think that npc crews at start and possible players crew replacements in future is the way they r planning it

Sadly, it isn't so. They are planning for NPC crews all the way through, though they have mentioned that player crews could be a possibility in the future.
