    EDIT:

I was right the first time.

    Your system does support AGP.

Try any from the following list EXCEPT the FX5200/5500/5700 cards.

    www.pricewatch.com/video_cards/agp_8x.htm

Here's the Dell website URL for your systems.  They recommend using IE to access it though.

    support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/product_support/en/product_support_central

Thanks for the link whats a good performance one though I dont want to buy a bad one, and I could of sworn I thought I was agp which is older, anyways isnt pci express better anyways? I believe they run on seperate memory from your system ram which is nice.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

LOL you confused me ok so I am agp.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

Could you atleast help me narrow it down? I dont know if I can run 256 mb graphic cards on this computer or not, and most on the front page are the fx series any reason why I dont want it?

  • GruntyGrunty Member EpicPosts: 8,657

Here's the list for 128mb cards.

Of these the best value is probably the nVidia 6600 on the second page available from PC Progress.

Thanks alot friend I really appreciate the help do you happen to play anarchy online by the way?

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

I looked it up on newegg and cnet and cant find it, was hoping to read reviews on it you sure I should get the nvidia?

  • CleffyIICleffyII Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,440

The best AGP card you can get is the HD2600.  Anything higher hits the bandwidth limit of the AGP slot.

Well I really did not want a super powered card but I was just wondering since the nvidia is way more espensive then all the other 128mb cards anyways I dont even think I need hd to game do I?

  • maskedweaselmaskedweasel Member LegendaryPosts: 12,197

It all just depends on what you're trying to do.  You can spend the minimum to just play one game, or you can spend more and maybe get some more wear out of it.  Personally spending too much on the card will be a waste as you'll probably need to upgrade in a couple years -- and thats pushing it -- if you want to keep gaming.

Well I want a little more then recommended to play anarchy online basicly, which is 128 mb card, I want smooth and goodlooking gameplay for ao that is.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

Question I ordered from pcprogress but my billing info is differant then my credit card info because we moved recently, it saids it went through but its not going to be a problem is it? It mentioned something about the address needing to be the same but I tried it anyways, also they didnt send me an email yet with no confirmation number or anything.

You will find neither in ao. Wasting money on parts for an outdated rig just to play this game is a poor use of money. You could buy an emachine of ebay that would even be better for the cost you put into an old card. Don't be like the fools in the aoc forums that bought brand new pcs for a game that turned out to be crap. That engine update will probably never happen and if you follow the current situation with funcom they could be headed for bankruptcy.
  • CleffyIICleffyII Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,440

Your processor is pretty old.  It won't be able to support anything above a Radeon 9xxx or GeForce 6xxx card now that I did some research.  Finding these cards is pretty tough and chances are you will find 9200's or 6200's which were entry level cards that can't really render much.  Its really hard to recommend a card like that.  I looked at all the sites, newegg, tigersdirect, amazon, circuitcity, best buy, and even EBay.  I would try not to spend over $40 on this card if I were you.  You can probably pick one up from a local computer parts seller for cheap.  Ideally, I would aim for a Radeon 9800 or GeForce 6800.  Your computer seems to be almost 9 years old and in need of a replacement.

First of all there are plenty of graphic cards I found for this system thanks for the ealier recommendation I already told you im looking for a 128 mb graphics card, and I highly doubt I can get a better computer for 70 dollars or whatever. It is worth it to me because I like anarchy online and I think some of you need to find something else to do instead of trying to tell me I should not waste money on an old machine if you read all my posts you would know im saving up for a new computer in the future.

And as far as funcom goes anarchy online to me is the best mmorpg ive played and I want a new machine when the new graphics update comes out thats my choice not yours im not trying to be rude but all I wanted was some suggestions I didnt need you all to tell me your computer is to old you cant upgrade it past this and that. Dont you think I already know that?

Jesus christ im not a graphics junkie like some people just get off of it already, I already got a card in the 6 series the nvidia and newegg has plenty of cards I could use and I bought mine from pcporcess or whatever its called. Anyways I asked one final question above if anyone could be so kind and post that I would be greatful otherwise please dont post on how bad of a decision you think I have made im not you and I want to play the game I enjoy.

  • CleffyIICleffyII Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,440

I was doing a bit more digging to suggest a good graphics card in those specs for cheap, but you already got one.

Your billing info has to match your billing info you have on your credit card even if its not your current residence.  They usually seperate out billing and ship to address.

Thanks ellfy I appreciate the info yea I didnt know what other card to get, it was a little expensive but I think it will be worth it for the moment, I just was not sure what cards are good performance cheap price is not always the best way to go when I had a better computer I did have a 6800 gt and I will never buy one again it went dead on me after 2 years because the dust gets stuck in the fan and etc its way to hard to get out poorly designed and my comment was more towards someone else not you friend.

Anyways im just glad I got one so I can play ao regardless of what the troll saids above I call him a troll because I saw him troll the boards in ao on this website recently when I was doing research into the game on the expansions and other things.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

Well it turns out I was not paying attention and filled the info out wrong and im not going to continue to get it in another forum I was in someone said a 200 dollars computer would devour this one any websites where I can find one?

  • CleffyIICleffyII Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,440

If you can build a PC, I can imagine you can build one with enough power to play most mmos under $200 without the OS.  However, finding a PC under $200 pre-built is pretty tough.  Usually any PC I find this low is missing a key thing like a video card that can do more then 2D, no OS, or its OS is vista and it only has 512MB of ram.  Although you can probably put this stuff in the PC for relatively cheap aside from the OS.

The best selection of PCs this low is at tigersdirect.

Your not going to get smooth graphics from a low end 128 card. Not to mention I am sure that the lag you will experience while playing AO will give you extreme delay's. Your just throwing your money away buying a graphics card for that PC. If your capable of browsing Ebay your better off browsing untill you can find a better pc that has what you want, and yes you can if you look get a great deal off ebay, I recently sold my old gaming rig on there complete for under $100.00

your being giving alot of solid advice from people who attempting to help you but if you are persitant in buying a graphics card for a pc that can barely handle browsing the net yet alone a MMO then by all means go for it. Wasting your money on something that in my opinion wont help you to play the game you want to play does not help your cause in saving up for a new pc though.

If you are referring to me as a troll I should tell you I don't use this forum name on any other board or website. I shouldn't even tell you a video card won't do squat for ao since it uses DX7 its all about CPU.

Just block the trolls like I do, it saves time and eye rolling.

As for a GPU for that PC, there has been some good advice given already. I would recommend that if you don't have the know-how to build your own PC and want to get a decent prebuilt that will last you a few years, shoot for saving up something in the neighborhood of $800-$1500 and start looking for deals in a few months. eBay might also be a good option for a good used gaming rig, as was stated. You just might need some help picking out a setup that is good for what you want/need it to do, and is a good price.
