I think of City of Villains as the gold standard here.
How customisable are characters?
Are they to the extent that you can clearly recognise other players, or does it meld into a general generic mush?
Can humans, for example, be fat and short as well as lean and muscular? (for some reason, beer bellies are very rare in these games). Could I be weirdly tall and spindly? How 'out there' is the customisation?

also, what classes are gender based? I will not be playing a male avatar.
From what i know the customization will be minimal... stuff like face, hair, color and minor stuff like that prolly... Since the length and width of the nose is realy a stupid customization option in mmorpgs... you always look at the name above the player and not his nose...
Also the dye color system... every piece of armor will have 1 or 2 colors from what the devs said and there are adount 100 colors i think... so basically you can always be the guy with red and black gloves, white and blue pants and yellow and cyan armor... and a pink helm? hehe...
There's talk about mount customization too but no details on that one yet...
orcs/goblins are always males, witch elfs are female i think... marauders are male? i'm not realy sure and too lazy to look it up hehe ^^
You also forgot the trophy system
) which moves the scrol over your body. So for example the moment i placed the scroll in the frist slot it came on my belt in the front. Then when i click that but it moved to a belt in the back.
With quests and achievements (and pbb other stuff) you can get trophys.
A character @ max level can have 5 different trophys, now based on the trophy you can switch spots for example.
In my first slot i got a scroll (which for example i won by doing some quest). Then there should be a button somewhere (no idea cause i am not in beta
And with this you can show people what you have accomplished in the game by looking at you.
(This has all been explained in paris and other podcasts)
Not all classes will have both gender options. For example, Orcs and Goblins are always male. Same with Marauders and Chosen (I think). On the opposite side, Witch Elves cannot be male. These are all Destruction, meaning 7 gender restrictions, (6 being female, 1 being male). On the order side, to my knowledge, there are no gender restrictions.

I have never heard of a game doing that. I have heard of giving ingame items, but customization faces? Can anyone confirm?
Yes, the WAR CE includes one extra head for each race/sex, so 12 total, only available in the CE.

Marauder
Squig Herder
Black Orc
Shaman
Female Only
Witch Elf
As PROdotes said, there are a slew of dye combinations, so armor wise, you'll definitely be able to stand out from the crowd. Add in the Trophy system (thanks Emotions) and I think it'll be pretty hard to meet your clone!
plus you'll have titles to display over your head which helps with customization. Guild heraldry as well, and you'll be able to brag but I won't explain how or what the system is just yet because of NDA.

I'm talking about something more personal that is only meant for individual "bragging rights"
COH really set the bar for character costumization. I would love to see another creator like that. Champions Online should have it.
