Whats your idea of a finished game?

I have NEVER played a MMORPG that was finished...ever. I just wanted to see what the rest of you think that would make you, the common gamer, happy. What do you think a finished game would be?image

I am finished with an MMORPG when I am bored with it...

MMORPG's do not have an end. That is not the idea behind it, unless you play WWIIOnline. One side can actually win the war, then they start over.

I guess if you get to the maximum level with every class, and perform every quest in the game, yu could consider youeself as having finished :)

Hehe, I do not mean have you ever finished a MMORPG, the question is, have you ever PLAYED a FINISHED MMORPG. Meaning, a game that is complete.

For example, go on EVERY board on EVERY MMO out right now and EVERYONE is saying , this/that game is not finished. image

The only time a mmorpg is finished is when it shuts down.

That which does not kill you only makes you stronger.

That which does not kill you only makes you stronger.

That is the nature of MMORPG's.

    Which would you rather have?

A game with absolutely no bugs that did not change. No new zones/monster/races/classes/items/quests/etc.

    Or...

A game with some bugs, but it was always getting improved upon with new areas/items/classes/etc. More and more stuff added to give you more things to do in the game?

One thing that always bothered me about these games is, if I wanted a certain weapon, all I had to do was go to some web site and it would tell me exactly what I needed to do to get said item. Where to go, who to talk to, what to kill, etc. Just doesn't seem like the exploration aspect s there. But when the game is always evolving, there is always something new and fresh out there that you can involved in before every web site about the game has all the details.

That is what makes Dark and Light so intriguing with its huge play area. I am hoping it is going to be possible to stumble upon something that no one else has explored yet. Of course, we will see :)

A finished mmorpg, imo is a game, at time of release (or when I pick up the box and buy it/log in) includes all the features listed on the box. That the only bugs in the game are geometry related.

Class balance issues should be resolved in testing.
Graphic issues should be resolved in testing (compatiblities posted)
Sound issues should be resolved in testing (compatiblities posted)
Quests that are completely within the provided game content should work.

There are always going to be bugs, thats the nature of the industry. Not every game is going to support every piece of hardware or possilbe PC configuration. However, it is my opinion that the game designers should provide a tested platform. Tested and supported.

Now, this all changes with an expansion... cause now you have to re-address class/race issues, but it should have little or no impact on hardware (unless the tested/supported list has grown).

This is a rather simplistic answer, I could prolly expand it and give you better details, but this is a fast down and dirty answer, an answer that actually touches on the question <lol>

i think 'finished' might be a poor choice of words since technically a mmorpg can never come out 'finished', theyre always changing and adding content, and its all relative to the amount of content thats available at release in comparison to other games.

I think WoW will be as close to 'finished' as we'll ever get.  I dont think many companies are willing to wait as long as Blizzard is/has for the sake of maintaining their rep at the expense of revenue for a 'finished game'.  Blizzard could easily have released a few months ago even with its issues(which would probably still be more finished than the release of many other mmorpg's), and they would've still had a huge playerbase, prematurely released or not.  Theyre guaranteed a couple 100k subscribers at least(imo much more than that), multiply that by the monthly fee, which amounts to alot of revenue theyre foregoing to try and release as finished a product as they can.  I dont know of any other company that makes games with the track record Blizzard has of not releasing games until their ready.

Personally i wish Blizzard would release already, with whatevever bugs are in the game or whatever was promised and not in yet.  I could care less.   As someone who didnt get into beta, and didnt want to be teased by the stress test, i would've purchased it months ago.  What makes it worse is their choice of no NDA(which i can also respect) so you read all about the game which almost seems like its been released already, and it just teases you even more when you read peoples experiences with it.  I guess WoW is one case where i wish they released prematurely, i'm pretty sure i could live with the bugs or missing content :p

i will never play a mmorpg that is finished.  That means no updates, no patches, no expansions.  It'll get pretty boring...almost like a SP game lol

I think there are alot of stupid people in the world....I think they all just posted in this thread. If that's your average gamer, and half of them are dumber...I feel sorry for mankind.

What all the men who were either trying to be clever or trying to find excuses for why their favorite game has more bugs than my professors Drosphilia lab mean is......

Finished means a game without any serious exploits, without any game-stopping bugs, without very many minor bugs. A game where the classes are balanced and don't require constant nerfs/buffs. A game with all the advertised fetures on the box and enough content to satisfy the semi-hardcore gamer to max level.

Some, but not all, may also require that the game be somewhat 'fun'. That is that there isn't any fundemental design decision(Example in a miniuet) that makes gameplay tedious for no purpose and they can generally enjoy playing it.

As an example of such a poor decision I offer the "anti-macroing" method of Saga of Ryzom. In that game when you are craft-grinding for your next crafting level so you can buy hitpoints so you can cast more powerful spells...(????).....sometimes items will "fall out" of the crafting recipe. It'll be there one miuete and you'll have to reselect it the next. This is very boreing and tedious and serves no purpose in game whatsoever.(It used to 'stop' macroers, but they since reduced buy prices for crafted goods to below cost to make..So it is no longer possible to craft endlessly.)

The simpler the game... the easier it is to finish...

    Tic Tac Toe... Finished...

    Pong... Finished.. LOL

But as long as there are humans making games... and humans playing those games... There will never be a "Finished" game... Becauses Humans are Built with flaws.... And nothing can ever change that... only through Endless triple checking can someone get rid of all bugs... but... what happens when someone releases new hardware.... ..... well they have to go back and fit the game for the hardware...

People are just good at making mistakes... thats the gosh darn truth... For example.. did you guys know that THe Hubble Satelite was sent up with the wrong mirror? Yups... NASA got a company to build a huge mirror for the project... The worlds most "prefect" mirror.. and after finishing.. they checked how accurate it was buy using this expensive device... which showed it was perfect... BUT then they checked it with an older device.... and the older device said the mirror was off by a small amount.... BuT noooooo the people said oh the older device must be wrong... So they sent the mirror off anyways.... Couple months and a couple billion dollars later they finally fixed the problem... IN SpACE.....

So people are just stupid... deal with it.

For me a finished mmrpg is one that has all the options, features and gameplay that was originally promised by the devs. Once that is true, everything afterwards is tweaking, upgrading and updating the game.

my idea of a finished game is uo b4 the renasance

from then on they added new ideas and fixed them

added new stuff and fixed them

took the old uo and remade it into a rotting place called fellucia.. which i lived a long time afterwards there.

took the old stadby of town pvp with order and choas and gave multiple meaningless factions

i miss uo at times... then i release... the uo i love is gone... a shattered memory of an aging account
