Prepare For WAR

James Nichols | General News | 08/14/2008 @ 06:06:05 EST

WAR is Coming!

And so we must be ready...

Tomorrow the Mythic Account Center will begin accepting all Open Beta and Head Start Keys allowing all Pre-Order customers to register their accounts and prepare for the weeks ahead.

We'll provide instructions and let you know when it's open tomorrow, but we wanted to announce tonight that up to the first 50 thousand Standard Edition Open-Beta keys registered will be invited to the upcoming Preview Weekend in addition to all of our registered Collectors Edition Pre-Order customers!

While we haven't announced any dates yet be rest assured that the next few weeks are going to be action packed and this is your only way to get into the preview weekend if you missed out on the Collector's Edition.

Stay tuned tomorrow!

Sounds great for NA players, but will GOA have pulled thier fingers out and gotten the Euro Account centers ready?

only the first 50k registered?!?! T___T

Protip: If someone does NOT list at least one positive and one negative about the game they are critiquing, its best to ignore the post.

how many gamers live in the us compared to the Eu nations, many more, so of course they are gonna focus on the us, and of course goa is gonna screw of the EU because they consider them unimportant,

if i lived in the u.k., i still wouldn't care, because it isn't that big of a deal, you get into preview weekend. you still get to go to the open beta, as well as get the game preordered

plus, you live in europe, life in america stinks, its ridden with crime and ebonics and liberals, i hate america, and have yet to escape

Why limit it to 50k?  Are they afraid they can't handle any more people than that?

You're probably right.  Ah well, a month from Monday and it won't make any difference

Don't overstate yourself. US WOW = 2.5 Million, EU WOW = 2 million. Heck, Korea could outdo it all probably if they coul dmanage to sell the game there, lol.

they probably don't have all their hardware in place yet. In the IT world it would be silly to buy hardware before you must, because of the ridiculus rate things progress in power and capacity. Anyway, 100 000 beta testers, that's a massive amount compared to other games that I remember!

Probably because if you go back more than a few years 100k was a good portion of the entire MMO community.

As long as they can handle 800,000 or so on opening day...

I doubt it :) It will probably be crashing, lagging and falling apart. Just like every other MMO release. There really is no way to prepare for such a thing. On the other hand mythic is quite a disciplined company, but so was blizzard and they had huge problems. In my opinion they should solve it by having headstarts of different length depending on when you preordered your collectors edition. Perhaps 3-2-1 days? That way you could get people in as batches instead of a massive, server destroying entry.

The biggest news to take away from tonight's announcement:

OB will not start until at least the week after next -- at least August 25th.

Mention of the term "next few weeks" makes me wonder if it'll actually start when I expect it to (the week after the 25th)

I wonder how many SE pre-order customers are going to be vying for those spots.

So is this a different registration then the one I already did on my beta account with my SE?

Believe so... this is the actual account management.. which you can only enter closed beta keys @ currently... not the beta application.

  • DreadbladeDreadblade Member Posts: 384

ahh the one where I have my old DAOC account that just lets me enter a beta key, so tomorrow I will be able to enter my SE keys?

  • PlaidpantsPlaidpants Member UncommonPosts: 267

Was kinda confused on that too.. but that's what I took from it... so I guess I may not get any sleep tonight watching for updates to try to be one of the 50,000 :p (unless it means the first 50,000 to enter it in on the beta registration page)

I registered my SE like 4 days ago on my beta but who knows so much of this has been confusing

no one confirm it -- the 25th is a GUESS

my own guess is that OB will be before next Friday

Well, seeing as the preview weekend will be before the open beta, and I don't believe the preview weekend will be this weekend (day after tommarow) I think end of august for the OB start is a pretty accurate guess.  We're at the mercy of Mythic, I just hope they make some annoucenments soon..

then why doesn't mythic just cancel OB and release the game at the end of august, thats barely any OB time for any actual error fixing or server capacity testing
