About Strategy Games....

hey guys... I hear that Warhammer: Mark of Chaos plays somewhat like the Total War series like Shogun, Rome, Medieval II...

The point.... Is Mark of Chaos worth the try after playing Total War games a lot?????

  • I'll warn you, it does not play just like a Total War game. The big difference is the campaign map. In Total War you can train units, build up cities, maneuver your forces. The campaign map in Mark of Chaos is linear, you go from one mission to the next, upgrading and replacing units as you gain cash from successful missions. There are also far fewer units available. In Total War you can have thousands of troops, Mark of Chaos is smaller scale.

The actual RTS portion does feel similar to Total War.  Your units have morale, experience levels, etc. The maneuvering doesn't feel as vital, though, maybe because there are fewer units at play. It's a pretty fun game, especially if you're into Warhammer, but I don't think it even comes close to a Total War game.

Yeah. Basically you choose either the good guys or the bad guys, each side has two races. Then you start off with the main race, and go from mission to mission, and at certain points you will switch to the secondary race. Each mission you earn cash, and your units and heroes gain experience. You use these out of the battles to upgrade, buy new units or replace dead soldiers, and buy magic items. Your heroes have their own skill trees to add points to as they level. The game is very linear.

It plays like the old Warhammer strategy games except you don't have to pay wages on your soldiers, only when you hire them or replenish units.  The game released buggy as hell but I hope they fixed most of them by now.  Definetly not as fun as the old strategy games from the 90s.

I could never get into those games.  I don't know why, but it just failed to grab me.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

If you own Medieval 2 then there is really no need to buy Warhammer:  Mark of Chaos, unless you are itching really hard for a fantasy strategy game

Warhammer: mark of chaos is essentially a heavily watered down version of the Total War games, which is a shame because the Warhammer lore should provide for great gameplay of that variety, but so far nobody has done anything extraordinary with the license.

I thought I remembered someone doing a Warhammer mod for either Medieval 2 or Rome Total War. It's been awhile, though, I don't know if they completed it.

Yea would be nice if they did that Warhammer has a lot of interesting lore to it that could make for some interesting tactical conumbrums such as the chaos wasts and the warp gate. Or the Dwarf Fortresses and the ogre warbands.
