I just wondered perhaps certain key persons within funcom are sabotaging them internally so they can buyout or perform a hostile takeover from within.

Art I really am fascinated and entertained by your dislike of Funcom ,I love the way you find new posts to undermine the company...I understand why you do as I've read your reasons why .

What would make you really happy ....see Funcom lose 50 % of value of current share price by  next week ?

They're now claiming on the official forums that most of the "naysayers" are short traders rofl.

"Most of you naysayers are short sellers or day traders only interested in what a stock does during a few day period. MOST stock investers are in it for the long haul and realize most money in the stock market isn't made in a day, it's made over a few years."

The denial is amazing! Investors dump the stock today on the numbers yet they'll defend FC straight to the bottom of the ocean while sipping on Kool-Aid on the way down.

Yeap, I guess the CEO of Funcom is a day-trading short seller too.  Clearly he believes the future is looking bright as he sold almost 20% of his FUNCOM shares today.

Im nto a financial expert by any stretch but how do you sell 800K boxes at 50 bucks a pop (not factoring in Collector editions) and still show a loss?? The box sales alone are 40 million.......Im guessing that money doesnt solely go to Funcom as there are distributors and other agencies involved but they still should have got a good chunk of that money........We all know the game is heading downward right now but if they cant turn a profit with thopse kind of sales then they need to sell the company.......

They don't make even close to $50 per box. Production costs, retailer markups, advertising, all kinds of things factor into the box price. They probably make around 15$-$20 per box.

And their expenses are very high. Employees, office space, servers, utilities, etc. Throw in bit of stupidity and mismanagement and bam, you've got problems.

they only make about 20% of the box cost, which puts it at around $10 per box sold.

Yeah, I agree here too. I found the AoC world to be claustrophobic and too controlled. Frankly, I'm sick of instance, I want sandbox.

Warhammer is really going to make it tough for Funcom to recover.   MMO fans seeking the latest and greatest will jump aboard Warhammer when it launches, and Age of Conan has not developed any brand loyalty at this point due to the errors and content gaps.  Envisioning a time when players might "return" to try AoC again is hard, given that Warhammer will be there (and novel), and then the WotLK expansion for WoW right after it.

  • AoC is suffering player flight and subscription woes for sure. The game was hyped to be the second coming of WoW and it turned put top be AO's good looking but clumsy and dim witted cousin. The games amateurish GM's and volunteer forum moderators are only serving to make a bad situation worse. Couple that with customer service issues and you have an already bad situation with a increasingly frustrated fanbase.

Was it overhyped, I think it was for sure but whose fault was that?

I think I see what you are suggesting but when someone says something wouldnt it be nice to know its true? Its a heck of  a business concept. Buyer beware and all aside it is NOT the customers fault when they have to rely nearly 100% on the companies word since the have NDA and such
