8800gt 512mb performance issues

MaskTheEndMaskTheEnd Member Posts: 11

I've been having low fps, and sometimes it actually freezes for a couple seconds to calculate everything.

I'm surprised by this.

I overclocked my processor, but i didn't mess with the PCIe frequency. Should I do that, so i'm not limiting my graphics card? if i am in fact limiting my graphics card?

i haven't installed OC features in my nvidia settings, So i'm wondering if it would be better to tweak throught the bios or through nvidia software.

specs are in my sig. Thanks a bunch :)

Are you sure it is the card?

    What game are you playing?

Your ddr RAM is pretty poor for gamming, also I take it you just bought the card and put it into an old system what watt and make psu do you have in your system are you sure it is enough to give the card the power it needs?

Last have you installed the new drivers for the card?

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

i'm not sure its the card, but rather how my build is handling it. The game I'm basing this off of is Crysis. Wich my system should handle.

    Windows xp 64

I have all the latest drivers, I just went to Evga to update the driver. So thats set.

I'm thinking that the default bios settings are the thing slowing it down.

as for the power supply, I'm not sure.

Well me I would think it is your RAM that is slowing the game down and not your card, crysis takes alot to run and you have only ddr 400 RAM,Also I would check your psu, alot of people dont take that into consideration when upgrading and the psu is one of the most important parts of your system. It sometimes isnt as easy as throwing a new card in your old system and you are good to go,if you have a psu that is say 350w and maybe not even a true 350w you could get alot of problems with the newer cards.

edit-I also have the 8800gt 512mb card and I never bother to oc my cards and never change the default setting's,I run crysis maxed out with it and nps but I am using 4gb ddr2 ram.

Dont change your mobo ,Opteron(and other athlon64 /sempron cpus) have built in memory controller  .There is no way you can use with another ram (DDR2/DDR3 ) ,youll waste your money .If you can OC a bit your cpu btw crysis is most resource hungry game atm . I dont think changing memory from DDr 400 to DDR2/DDR3 will bring more performance alone if it was possible ,amateurs
