This is not a troll topic more a sad remeniscince to mmorpg days of old , I cancelled my subs for AoC today mainly due to the problems with crashing out and as i have a decent spec pc it became more apparent the game was being the issue which is a shame as i was at a point of enjoying playing and felt that feelgood factor in a lot of zones which ok not dx10 still look quite impressive .
I first started in 2000 with EQ which to my mind and to this day no mmo has come close to. The sheer adrenaline rush you experienced when running through Kithicor on your way to Rivendell as it was just turning dark and thus changing from a lowbie zone into a kick a**e undead level 50 zone was an example of the fantastic immersive touches that the game had ( another funny one was watching Druids in Wolf form getting wasted by Gorenaires aoe in Dreadlands , always raised a smile 8-) went through the usual progression after EQ , EQ2, WoW, Vanguard , Lotro then AoC .
I think i am now at a point of knocking mmorpg's on the head as much as i would like to think the game developers design these games really putting effort and energy making them as exciting and immersive as possible it seems the market has become frenetic and just relies on hype to shift copies off shelves the bottom line being make loads from initIal sales and let the game limp along with minimum resources .
It really astonished me that Vanguard was a mess when Brad Mcquaid was involved , saying that many years had passed since Everquest and maybe his vision was a bit blinkered by his past success ,i went back to play for the free month access but experienced a game which to my mind hasnt progressed a lot from its shaky launch , WoW was fun to a point not graphically amazing but fun nontheless , Lotro once you got your class/rift gear and traits maxed out lacks at end game content but is a polished game .
Apologies for rambling but i am wondering what you old school gamers think about the present situation i would never actively set out to flame any game but cant help thinking if games developers arent jumping on the bandwagon and rushing out half developed unworkable engines and knowing there is a big hole in the market taking advantage of it ?

Totally agree , was a good post and i for one liked it mate.
Get the same feeling myself.
But couple of weeks ago i canceled and decided to spend my Subs on some thing else.
Used EA downloader and for only a couple of quid more i got Battlefield 2142 & expansion pack.
the last few nights are the first time in a long time i been yelling at the pc again going hell yeh take that .
you know i actually found a whole world of fun in online gaming again and it was there all along.
Nothing against the content of your post, OP, but is punctuation really so difficult?
Good post, I agree that old Everquest days were the best and nothing has come quite as close to them. However, current, Everquest, is nothing like the old days. I still await the perfect MMORPG. My lady and I will be trying WAR and hopefully that will be right for both our styles of play. I also am considering Vanguard once the new character models come out. For now I will continue to play Everquest 2 and try out WAR.

No MMO game will be as good as the first one you got hoocked on. Thats just how it is. Sadly all MMOs are falling into the same trap atm and it can only lead to the genre dying. Its just astounding that we have some games like AOC (and WAR it seems) that dont even have the basics of structured economy. Thats kinda tells pretty much everything needed.
Nothing against you as a person, but is posting something that contributes to the discussion really so difficult?
Actually I disagree with the general point ,I think some of you are a little jaded and despondent and the disastrous joke of AOC has exacerbated this
I'm new to MMO's ..I have been playing for about 14 months .However I have a long history of playing Fantasy RPG's going back to Ultima 1 .I started playing UO first and subsequently I am playing UO ,Everquest 2 and Vanguard .I played AOC for about 2 months and quit ..that was the first MMO I have ever quit .My favorite game is Vanguard ...I love it...it's like Oblivion but in a MMO sense. My point is there are many good games out there ...don't compare new games to old games ...see new games for what they offer. In my view there are several new games that are coming out that look innovative and evocative to me
1. Aion
2. WAR
3. Mortal Online
Lets look forward at whats coming and not dwell " on the good old days " ...you'll miss out on something that you may be just what you want

Duly Noted i apologise for my poor punctuation , i have edited a little to make it a bit more readable !!
Did i mention another reason for my dismay at later mmo's was a growing unhelpful and sarcastic in game community population ?
Yeah, it is kind of sad. Compared to years ago, my most recent experiences with mmos have been pretty negative. I'm completely burned out on WoW and probably won't play again. And the AoC lauch was just bitter disappointment wrapped in pixelated boobs.
Actaully playing VG now. I avoided it earlier due to bad press. I'm in my first month and enjoy it so far.
Spooky. I am in the exact same boat as you are (also together with my gf hehe).
LOL i met my wife on Everquest and we have been through the succesion of mmo's since , She thinks pretty much the same although she liked her Minstrel in Lotro a big factor was the story line / Lore running through the game ...../ Anticipates the coming of a quality mmo < Locks Brad in the basement >
