Durham, USA – August 15th, 2008 – Conan is invading this year’s Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. Funcom and Eidos invites everyone to come join the festivities at his majesty’s outpost located at stand B10 in Hall 5. Behind the tall walls of the King’s fortress press and gamers alike can play the game, meet and chat with the developers, collect amazing give-aways and observe live stage shows where Funcom will reveal and demonstrate brand new and never-before-seen locations, content and features that will be put into the recently launched massively multiplayer online game ‘Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures’ in the months ahead.
“We are very pleased with the tremendously successful launch that we had,” says Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Funcom, Morten Larssen. “But this is where the real journey starts for ‘Age of Conan’. In the months ahead we will be putting a lot of effort into expanding and improving on the game, and we look forward to using the Games Convention to unveil some of the locations, content and features we have in the pipeline.”
During the live stage shows Funcom will present new locations, content and features coming to ‘Age of Conan’. Blue Orb Inc. will also be present to demonstrate how you can use their software to play ‘Age of Conan’ with a gamepad, while the guys behind ‘TripleHead2Go’ have prepared a machine with a three screen setup so that gamers can come and play ‘Age of Conan’ in all its unprecedented visual glory using cutting-edge technology. Funcom will also be giving away exciting loot such as the legendary inflatable swords and free trial accounts together with limited edition DVDs containing the entire game. This is the first time Funcom hands out free trials and the supply is limited, so we encourage you to make your way to Conan’s outpost as soon as possible!
Behind closed doors members of the press will also be treated to a presentation of exclusive DirectX10 features, technology that will add even more power to the spectacular graphics featured in the game. Press interested in attending these presentations should contact Funcom, but please note that seating is very limited at this point.
‘Age of Conan’ launched in May this year and immediately topped sales charts around the world. It has received more than thirty magazine covers and more than fifteen major awards, including numerous "Best MMO of E3" awards and the "Best Online Game of Show" award at GC 2007. The game has received numerous glowing reviews, including a 9.4 score from US website GameZone. ‘Age of Conan’ is a key title in Microsoft's Games for Windows line-up, as well as a showcase title for nVidia thanks to its jaw-dropping graphics.

'Cry Havoc, and Let Loose the Dogs of WARRRRR!!!'
Those reviews are digusting, way too forgiving and biased towards AoC.
"including a 9.4 score from US website GameZone"
Needless to say, Gamezone took some back door money from Funcom for that review.
Conan is not a bad game, per se, it does fit many players playstyle, but it is not even close to being a complete game yet, the end game still remains somewhat broken and lacking a lot of content.
Seems a shame that developers get so tied up in ease of play that they don't realize how boring they make the game.
....topped sales charts around the worl
Yeah and 2 months later the player base dropped by 50%. I was really eager when AoC was released but it was just dissapointing. I canceled after 2 weeks.
Well and since I don't have a press ticket I won't be seeing DX10 next week, darn.
Same thing happens with nearly every MMO that comes out, player base dies out after a couple months. The only one that hasnt followed this rule recently was second life.
Look at these for proof - http://www.mmogchart.com/charts/
Wow even in a press release like this it's still just hype.
The problems with AoC arent as big as everyone makes them seem. The biggest problem with AoC right now is just 2 things honestly -
1) The PvP system is still not yet implemented.
2) The PvP is unbalanced due to the damage being way too high.
I agree that they are moving way too slow to address these things, but I also do believe that once they are addressed the game will be in a much better state than it is right now. Because this has been the #1 reason the people I know have left the game to this point. My guild actually left for this exact reason.
I will also say that, aside from the lack of content around the 50's-60's, most of the people I know actually were having alot of fun, until all the "1-shot kills" started happening. The lack of content really wouldnt be too big of a problem, if there was something to look forward to at 80, such as the PvP system being in place. As it is right now, there is not.
The PvP patch is coming soon, but it wont mean as much as it should until the PvP damage is changed. They stated the way damage is dealt in PvP is going to change, but havent mentioned anything about that since, so who knows when it will be. I hope soon, because despite all the complaints about AoC, I still believe it has great potential once the team has more time to get past their mistakes.
Dojnt be fooled by this post. The game is really buggy and is a grindfest. Anyone who has not tried it save your money maybe soon we will get an mmo worth our time. This is not the one. Dont hold your breath on this one getting better anytime soon
FC has no shame.
hurm...
While I agree with Spy that this is a potentially great game released some 6-9 months early only so Funcom got in before WAR and WOLTK with a consequently frakked up game I think it will be fixable. It is sad as I would have bought it after the other two just to give it a whirl but hey, I assume their marketing folks told them there weren't enough people like me.
What is so frustrating is the lying lyers they have giving their press releases. A pvp game where the pvp don't work and where they claim they've got a fix coming where they still have neatly ignored they ain't fixed balance or pvp damage in spite of this being all over their forums.....
So sad as its the lies that drove me away. it meant, and still means, you could never trust what parts/classes will ever be properly playable. You could never trust the people who you were giving your money to....
This leads me to agree with Alke (though in a less graphically interesting way).
Roll on WAR. With those guys you can love, 'em or hate 'em. But at least you can trust them to be straight with you and let you know what they are doing before you hand over yer dosh.
Yeah, I agree that expectations werent lived up to.
But to be honest, I think if they could have delayed, they would have. For an MMO they had a very, very large team working on AoC, and they didnt have the biggest budget. I think they lacked the funds to continue working on the game without making some money back, as happens with most MMO releases.
That said, I'm worried about WAR for the same reasons. I dont believe that they are able to delay anymore either. With under 2 months until release they did that removal of classes/cities. Now, lets be honest. Why would they make a choice to remove things so that they could meet their release date, instead of just delaying so they can deliver what they promised? They were at least open about it and said they were removing them, but realistically, if they could have pushed back the release to fit things they promised - especially when they havent even set a release date yet - they would have.
I think this is the biggest problem with all MMO games these days. Theres a smaller MMO audience then other genres have, so less funding, but the games take so much more time and resources to create than your average game. That's why we see MMO after MMO released in beta-form and patched after release, which sadly ruins pretty much every game for at least a year or so as they have been tainted from the players first memories of the game.
Prove it.
Needless to say you cant just make an accusation like this without backing it up with SOLID proof.
What is your physical limit?

He doesn't have to provide ANY proof to you. Who are you again? Either way, in order for someone to give a review like that they either didn't play past Tortage or they took money. The game is terrible. Period.
-Computer specs no one cares about: check.
-MMOs played no one cares about: check.
-Xfire stats no one cares about: check.
-Signature no one cares about: check.

Making claims like that he should have to prove it... he's questioning there integrity with nothing but his own opinions... its far more likely that they did what most review companys do is part review it cos its an MMO and a full review would take a lot of man hours. Yes again wrong and maybe they should be made to state that...
But if i was to call you a pedo or a rapist,i would have to prove it... or would you expect others just to take me on my word cos well... who are they to question me...
Who is he to accuse a company of that... Age of Conan is lacking in my opinion but you all hang draw and quarter these reveiwers when most of the posters on this site early doors thought the game was good (including me, i still think its alright but i wont play till the major stuff is sorted) and over time the games lack of quality, bugs and funcoms poor customer service and limitless mistakes have ended up with mass hysteria and hatred.
I've exhausted any good will i had for funcom awhile ago.
While I could have forgiven features like DX10 delayed, even class balance stuff (all mmos need months of balancing after release, tbh it never ends), they deliberately released a non-finished game to take advantage of the 'wow-weary' players who wanted something new. they achieved massive retail sales, at the expensive of longevity.
As we are seeing, its most likely that had they waited to launch the game until after they had a PVP system (with points / Ranks / gear etc), stats that meant something (currently you can play naked without too much of an issue), Content for players at lvl 50+ (NOT including the repeatable Villa solo instance grinding)...
They would have launched after WAR and probably WOTLK.
This barefaced Cynicism and contempt for their customers for the sake of the almighty Dollar...
means i'll think three times before buying another FC product.
My wow guild disbanded and we defected to AoC... only for it to fall apart due to the absolute mess the game is in.
cheers.
Now its back to WoW and alts.
(oh and the WAR beta - o/ )

gtwhalley said it best. Who are you and why should someone have to provide proof? Ok ok ok i give, if you actually want proof, blow $50 out your ass, spend it on AoC, play the game. There's your o-so-needed proof. How in all that is gaming and holy could an unfinished game get a 9.4? Ok ok ok so maybe the putz that did the review had never played a mmo, never played a video game for that matter and didn't know what 'content' ment in the good ol book of Webster.
Its the same thing as movie reviews; how about all those B movies that made $2 gross and had reviews such as "totally groovy!" "wow awesome moovy!" (yes spelling was on purpose) and beside it you'll see some no-name jackass from Incestville, USA who gave the review, whom they offered like $10 to write a good review for them. Its called marketing, and Funcom should be held accountable for their false advertising. I'm glad their 'new' game features consist of content that was promised at launch. And to the guy who said the post on ageofconan.com was biased towards AoC, thats prolly because the review was on the website of the game designer...I'm sure their paychecks influenced them to write good things too.
For me AoC is the most frustrating MMO ever released, as a lifelong RE Howard's Conan fan this MMO promised me Hyboria in all its' barbaric majesty, but delivered barely a jot of it.
It's a simple fact, Conan was a loner, a wanderer, he didn't need buffing or healing on the fly, he didn't, nay wouldn't use 'enchanted' weapons he feared them.
I cared not for bosoms (sans nipples) and 'adult' content, which never happened anyhow, rolling heads on only humans sorta dispelled that. What about that 12 foot tall apes' head which I just lopped off? no animation for that?
Despite FC's exuberance I doubt any of them actually grasped what Conan's Hyboria was all about, save a few graphic artists who done good, I respect them, they will be sorely needed for future content.
At the risk of a proper flaming I'll take you back 3 years, you've all been there, Blizzard nailed it on all fronts. Remember the first time you squared up to the other lot at Crossroads, or Tarren Mill? It just happened, there you were, and there was a war going on so you dove in. Seen that in AoC's 'brutal' Hyboria have you?
AoC promised 'clan' battles to die for, but how? there's not enough people playing it? and even those risk client crashes in the process.
I wish FC all the best, but they really got to up the ante. And quick.
50%??
Dude, there can't be more than 10% of the original box buyers still left playing.
