Server or Servers?

I was thinking about this and with so many items being earned rather than having the ability to be bought online by the lazy ba$tards of the universe what is the benefit of having more than one character on a server?
The only thing I can think of is so that you have more variety with your guild, but other than that I can't see many benefits.
So if you were to have a few alts would you roll them on the same server or spread them out across multiple servers so that you can experience a different sort of balance in the RVR, see new faces, etc.?
I believe i'm going to roll up four chars on four different servers. It seems like this game is much more focused on being fun from rank 1-40 than many others so I can enjoy myself in different environments.

I want to play Destro but all my friends want to play on Order. I'll most likely make all Order on one server and Destro on another.
Realm control is tiered. If your side controls tier 1 it makes it easier to capture tier 2, if they control tier 2 it is easier to control tier 3 which makes it easier to control tier 4. There will be at least some reason to play lower level characters to support your tealm. It is most likely that you can help the most with your highest level but even if you just play a lower level for fun you are still helping the realm in some way.
