I had a general question about pre-ordering eq2. I have read quite alot of posts here and it seems like their are some advantages to pre-ordering. I was thinking about doing it anyway, but felt a bit misguided when reading those posts.
Whats this about jboots if u pre-order ? And a 'special' house for buying collectors edition. Basically what exactly makes it worthwhile to pre-order.
Fell off grape vine for a while to get my life back in order from eq1 draining all my time away. But I have ambitions to get into eq2 somethin fierce.
Comments
When you pre-order EQ2 you get a code inside the case just like when you buy the game.
By entering this code along with your Station ID/Password you account is flagged for a set of J-boots so when you create your first character they automatically get a set of j-boots for you to use.
Not sure that you get a special house with the collectors edition, but you do get a baby dragon as a pet for your house and I think some other items to go in it.

I pre-ordered the CE version... twice. Once for me, once for the wife. So far, I've enjoyed playing with the character generator but my concern is that changes to the character generation system during Beta will just mean re-making my toons at release anyhow.
Actually on the Journeymen Boots, the following was posted on the EQ2 forums by a Moderator:

Iowa,
When did you pre-order and from whom did you purchase it from?
Hello, a couple weeks ago, from Gamestop Online, but I just read some info on EQ II's Official Forums that it depends on the retailer for a copy. I sure wish I could get one. I will call the local store later today, after they open. Thanks for responding. If you have other tips, please send to my inbox here. Thx again.
p.s. Yeti for short

Yeti,
You got it all figured out! I all depends on the retailer to supply you with the CC disk.
Calling may work, but you would probably have a better chance of getting one sooner by going into a local GameStop and speaking with them face to face. Demand you get one! lol
Good luck!

Granted, I rarely buy games on the same day they hit the shelves, but on the occasions I have, I've never had any trouble getting a copy.
I prefer to wait and save my money. I learned after preordering Shadowbane. Whatever little tchotsky they throw in with the preorder box generally isn't worth the $10 in my opinion. Then you have the EQ2 fans preordering, and locking into purchasing not only the game, but an $80 - $100 version of the game, not even knowing if they will like it. And since they beta test is hermetically sealed, they have no way of knowing whether the game is worth buying or no, until it's too late.
That being said, at this rate, don't expect an open beta. They won't repeal the NDA until a month after release, though, eventually people will get to a point were they don't care if they're kicked from the beta, and make their opinions known about the net. Shame is most of them will make irrational, illegible posts that no one takes seriously.

Advantage 1 of Pre-order, Character Creation.
Now My Avatar rocks booya.

I totally understand where you're coming from with the living quarters. I had to buy a PA hall for all my doo dads, gee gaws, and thingamajigs in SWG. And even then I still ran out of room. Being older myself, it's not an issue of money, so much as a matter of principle for me. I'll play the game at release, assuming they don't drop the ball, but I don't see SOE as needing my money to finish the product.
And nice avatar, I might add. Ken Watanabe did quite a fine job in that film.

Basically I thought it was worth it to have the character creation disc ahead of time. Plus, it never hurts to have your copy reserved for when you pick it up - you never know what kind of demand the store will meet.
I'm not too worried about the in house stuff, though the dragon sounds cool - but not worth getting the collectors edition imho.
I've probably killed a few hours on the character creation so far.

Whoever pre-ordered from Gamestop, if you haven't contacted customer service about your starter disk yet, I would do so. I pre-ordered from Gamestop, and recieved the starter disk within a week. Also, for those who are thinking about pre-ordering.. Go with the DVD's. I ordered the CD's .. now to find out there is gonna be 9-10 of em vs 1-2 dvds. Not that it's really a big deal, but that's alot of disk swapping lol.
