    ya its both forum posts, combined with frequency and time of logins.

    you can also gain/lose stars based on quality of posts.  I know this first hand :P

    I just gained another star.

    And I also released a buttload of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. Just thought you should know that it wasn't my fault, I couldn't help it.

    Also if a post is removed or deleted like spam, off topic, random rubbish the rank goes down pretty fast.

    it's based on how active you are in the forums.

    posting and all.. just reading and browsing even though you're logged

    doesn't count.
