I bet my Aunt Hilga's ant farm that both will sell for 49.95 and the monthly costs will both be $14.95 a month.

With, of course, the usual 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month discount plans and the 75-80 dollar Colelctor Edition boxes

    They will probably be ~$14.95.

And honestly I don't know why they wouldn't, I'm sure not that many people won't play(or continue to play), for an extra $1 or $2.

But I'm not marketing specialist either. :P

Ok i dont know about WoW but lets take a look at EQ2,specifically SOE.Remember when SWG was being hyped up before it was launched?

Well SWG set the bar for 14.95 a month right?People still play that and pay that much a month.Just look at how well THAT turned out. After that most mmo's followed suit.If its a popular one then you pay that much. With EQ2 being a name most of us can immediatley identify with you can almost count on it being more.

SOE will try to push this as a "next generation" mmo.(dont forget this is the same company that charges 40 bucks a month for the EQ legends server).

I think SOE will charge somewhere between 20 and 25 bucks a month. They pushed the price up with SWG and i think they will push it up again. If SOE is true to what they have done as far as pricing goes we can count on it.

They learned they can up the price per month and still maintain subscriptions with SWG.

I bet for both it will be $15.95 a month.

with a 3 month sub it will be $14.95

    6 month sub $13.95

    12 month sub $12.95

If all goes well up to the first exp pack then the price will increase to $16.95 up to as high as $18.95 when they announce EQ4ever, hehe. Which will never be releasedimage

I have to disagree.  SWG changed the prices true..but buy only 2 dollars at the most.  I find it very unlikely that their marketing/business management teams are going to approve of a 6-11 dollar price hike per month.

I see the odds of this to be around .... 0% lol

Hate to tell you but SWG MAY have came out with the 14.95 per month on release...but anarchy online after what 4+years there price is 14.95 and every now and again they lower it just to attract new comers. I don't see why companies would start a game out at nearly 15 a month. You are as well making SWG an example and it was extremely horrid when it 1st came out and lost alot of ppl the 1st week it was out. If you're going to make an example use something that caught someones eye...IE.City of heroes when it was released

I used SWG as an example BECAUSE of how bad of an example for an mmo it is.If they charge that much for SWG then surely they will charge more right?
I mean these days EQ2 and WoW are the socalled holy grails of the genre why would they NOT want to charge more?
Premium games charge a premium price. The price will go up just how far is the question here.BTW i played AO when it was 12.95 a month. When SWG was released they jacked it up to 14.95 a month. That game is what 4 years old maybe a bit less?

I've played EQ on PS2 - $9.99 for one month gamecard (less if purchsed in 6-12 month chucks)

And FFXI - $12.95 plus $1.00 for each character after the first.

My experience with SOE with Everquest and their trend I'd guess atleast $14.95 per month if not more, discounted if purchsed in 6 month or bigger chuncks.  I've also read they've dumped ALOT of money into developing the game already and will want to see some returns quickly to help fund their MANY other projects.

It's tough to tell what Blizzard will charge because this will be their first.  Maybe alot to recover developement expense, though Blizzard seems to be a very adamant about making this an "everybody" game, keeping system requirements reasonable so everyone won't have to buy a $500 videocard just to play (where EQ2 bregs to push even the newest techknolgy to the limits(for people with disposable incomes)) and so on...  I think WoW will be no more than $14.95, but no less than $9.95.  They spent alot of money too I'm sure, but I could see Blizzard much more willing to earn their money back over the longrun and more than willingly accept everyone not willing to pay as much as the competition charges.

I could be very wrong, but I'd bet WoW will be no more than EQ2 if not cheaper.  If either are more than $14.95 a month, I'm out!  In fact, $180/year sounds a bit steep already.

I'm gonna have to agree with Enigma on this one. $14.95 sounds like the magic number. image

The 20 to 25 dollar a month sub is complete chaos theory and wont happen. and seeing how EQ,SwG,Planetside, and EQII are all owned by SOE, you really only have to look at the current titles to get an idea of what your paying per month for EQII. 14.95 most likely, 15.95 if they decide to raise it. Also, the reason the marketing dep at SOE jumped two dollars on SwG was because its difficult to sell 13.95. Most buyers look for a rounded number, and 13.95 is one of those odd middle man numbers that doesn't feel right. So they wanted to up the price, but wanted it to be attractive at the same time. Which is why you wont see a jump beyond 15.95 anytime in the next two years, most likely.

They will charge 14.95, SOE is allready doing it with SWG so EQ2 will follow suit, and Blizzard which is actually owned by Vivindi Universal will charge the same as SOE mostlikely.

I also agree with en1gma, 15 bucks sounds about right.   Well not RIGHT per se, but what the criminals are going to charge.  I find it humorous that I will pay that, actually I pay alot more than that, I usually have about three games going at once so I end up around the $45 range.  I just went through and cleaned up all my subscriptions, DaOC got the axe, PS: axed, L2 is standing by for the chop (waiting on..you guessed it EQ2, I am such a carebear).

Tribes Vengeance (BETA testing, not sure about it yet), SWG: dull axe several chops (think office space printercide), I hate what they did to the Star Wars title.  Hopefully the space expansion makes it a game worth playing but I am not holding my breath.  And thier CS, well that is a different post.

To get back on topic, I think they are going to have to drop prices.  Most responsible adults (ie moms and dads) are not going to drop 15 bucks a month so junior can go gaming.  I mean if I was not an over grown teenager I sure as hell would not spend the money I do on gaming.  (I also spend a ton of cash on motorcyles but again diff thread).  So I think in the interest of keeping a bigger fan base and subscription base that it may behoove them to drop prices down to the 10- 11$ range.

This is just an opinion and is by no way based on any facts.  Just my delusional mind.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

SWG was $16.81 with good ole NY State taxes.. expect it be 14.95 or more. not less...and CoH catching someones eye and not SWG? roofles? SWG right at this moment still has 2x more subscribers than CoH EVER had.

  • jimothypetrojimothypetro Member Posts: 1,437

Honestly I don't even worry about the monthly fee for these games. I could care less whether it is $10-$15 a month.

Now if it was something like $20-25 a month then I would have to consider it, because at that point the question becomes "Would I be happier buying a NEW game every 2 months, or would I have more fun playing this same game for 2 months, and paying roughly the same price?"

Right now, I would much rather play a MMO game with a $10-15 monthly price tag on it, than buy a new game every 3-4 months.
