Atlantica Actual CB2 Update Review

I would first off like to apologize to anyone who was upset and misled by my previous reviews/statements regarding Atlantica. At the time those statements were made the game was accurate and true to the outstanding and excellent points I made about it. However without any prior warning the game has been patched with a new "stamina system" which has in my opinion, and the feelings of a vast majority of the experienced testers currently offering their precious time and diligent efforts there, entirely changed the face of Atlantica from what it was in the previous beta testing phase.

I had glorified it's combat system, which on it's own is/was excellent, however with the stamina system in place as it is now PvE combat is limited and unenjoyable. I know it may be difficult to understand without having experienced it when Atlantica used to be a great game, but the addition of stamina requires that the player think very carefully before entering any combat fight. The stamina system limits a player to only 100 fights each day, which avid gamers will all know is far too few for any reasonable amount of enjoyment.

I had stated wonders about the auto-walking system, which is now defunct due to the stamina addition. Auto-walk tends to sometimes run you into battles and with the stamina system players can now simply not afford to enter into unexpected fights if they wish to be at all productive during the limited amount of play allowed.

PvP has likewise been damaged by this addition. Prior to stamina, PvP was tactical and challenging. However due entirely to this new addition PvP has become a complete joke and is almost entirely used now just as a work-around to try and get a few more stamina points recharged to extend the limited playability of the game.

I think one of my most glowing statements regarding the former phase of the game was the helpful, friendly and close-knit community. Stamina has entirely destroyed that and it is perhaps the greatest loss in all the bad which has come from the addition of stamina to Atlantica. No longer are people friendly, generous and helpful in game. Stamina has forced the players to scheming, scamming, and bullying newer players to gain even a small bit more play time.

Mentoring now feels forced and almost required to advance to any reasonable degree. Guilding also feels forced now, where before it was a benefit, now it's practically required. Grouping likewise feels forced and is practically a necessity now due to the stamina system.

Formerly I mentioned how inventive and flowing the questing in Atlantica was during CB1, this is no longer true in the current build due to the stamina system. No longer can one move freely through the quests and storyline and enjoy the thrill of advancement and exploration. You get cut off unexpectedly by the sudden loss of xp and drops when stamina runs out and can no longer complete any quests with drop requirements as a result. This also disrupts the story flow, making you wait another full day to continue onward.

I had spoken of the revolutionary and unique mercenary system in Atlantica and about how enjoyable it was to strategically select the right mercs for your goals and advance them to higher and more powerful upgrade levels. However stamina has ruined that aspect of the game as well. No longer can you gather the necessary crystals to upgrade your soldiers and procure the equipment, skills, and stat potions needed to make them exceptional. Stamina limits this drastically and makes the ability to obtain the higher grade of mercenaries not only difficult but in some cases almost inconceivable within a reasonable period of time.

I had spoken about how amazing the crafting system was, about the immense number of choices which were available and that you could feasibly craft nearly anything available in the game. Stamina has crushed it as well. No longer can you easily gather the needed materials for crafting, there are simply not enough stamina points available to do even a tiny fraction of what a player might wish to do in game.

Previously I mentioned how both the casual and hard-core gamer, the pvp enthusiasts and solo play styles were all encouraged and enjoyable in Atlantica. You could fully enjoy the game either alone, in a small group, or as member of a large guild depending upon your individual desires and preferences. This is no longer the case following the addition of stamina. The new system forces all players into a single play style which to most feels both forced and restrictive.

I will state for the record that I have personally tested/experienced all of what I have spoken of here and that this is all valid and actual fact and real first-hand knowledge, not hearsay or conjecture.

I place a great deal of value on my personal honor and reputation and am disappointed and ashamed that my former views regarding this once great game have been so swiftly and unexpectedly overturned. Had I known beforehand of this upcoming addition I most certainly would have given all of you fair warning, and now all I can offer is my sincere regrets toward any and all of you angered and hurt by this turn of events.

It has always been and still is my belief that games should be enjoyable. Whether you play to relax or be the best, you do it for entertainment and a sense of accomplishment. There is no longer any enjoyment or accomplishment to be had in Atlantica as it is currently with the stamina system in effect.

At the time of this posting there has been no official response from the staff or admins of Atlantica, and lacking that I cannot say with any certainty if the game will remain in the horrible and unplayable state in which it now exists. I have requested time and again that they answer our requests to remove the stamina system and have as yet received only silence and disrespect for my efforts. I will endeavour to update you all if something changes in the future, however as it stands right now I would NOT recommend Atlantica Online to anyone and would strongly discourage anyone who may be considering trying it out.

I once considered Atlantica to be a 9.5 on a scale of 10, however it now is a 0 out of 10 in my own experienced and honest opinion.

I regret any loss of trust and respect which has occurred from those who read my previous reviews regarding Atlantica and went to try it based on my recommendations. They were accurate at the time they were posted, however the addition of stamina in the game has entirely invalidated all the good points I once made about this formerly exceptional game. It has now become complete trash and is unworthy of even trying. In my opinion.

The game was an awful, dry, devoid of any enjoyment losercoaster from the very beginning. Only reason you even posted a review before is to get in-game benefits.  100 battles a day, in a grindfest game ? Indeed this would ruin an otherwise GRAND korean f2p grindfest.  What are people supposed to do other than log out , even crafting requires you to fight lol. Awful game got worse, go figure.

My first game session has ben 3 hours long, and my final stamina whas 87 or something.

A combat in this game could be 1 minuto or 2 minutes long.

Anyway, If you consume 100 combats in.. say.. 4 hours. You could logoff, and play again the next day.

I don't see how this ruin the gameplay that much.

Well I actually give the OP respect for going out of his way to say 'oops I was wrong.'  Even though I've never even heard of that game before.

I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

I'm playing Atlantica BETA at the moment and I can honestly say, I like it.

I lurked the forums for about 2 weeks before even trying the game out because I run through so many F2P's it's not even funny, so I did some research before downloading.

The forums are filled with whiney, spoiled brats who completely disregard the good points of the game and stick it to this new stamina system.

If you can sit in front of a game for 10 hours GRINDING, you will hate the Stamina idea. If you like experiencing all aspects of the game, you don't mind the Stamina idea.

Fighting same or close level NPC's lasts a good minute or two(5vs5), now break that up into 100 fights. The people that play games just to grind are the only ones having trouble with this new system.

My only gripe is that crafting is tied into combat, you can't make anything without having to fight something which makes the Stamina idea a small problem.

Seriously, there are 100+ threads on official forum about this Stamina system, it's not that bad.

If one can't control themselves to log off when your stamina is 0, or switch to an alt, you have other problems to address then a system put in a games beta for people to try.

It's a f2p with big possibilites and a good feel to it.

I like the stamina system.  It keeps everyone playing at the casual level I play at.

There is a way around it for gaining exp.  You get into a fight purposefully to fight alot of enemies and adds.

It doent keep everyone playing at your casual pace, hardcore players will just use the stamina up faster than you and log off.

Its kind of silly to want other players to play the game at your pace.  THis isnt an uber leet pvp game anyway, why should it even matter to you if other play more than you?  Doesnt effect your fun any bit.

Also there isnt any way around it, like you state.  You would have to pvp for hours to gain any significant stamina points, and you can only get them during the shceduled tournaments, not by duels.  Lets not forget that stamina doesnt roll over the next day, it gets reset, so if you manage to get 100+ or 50+ stamina (at level 51 you get only 50 stamina per day) this all gets wiped out.

You could get mentor points and buy a pill that gives you 20 more battles...but this has ruined the mentor system.  Now the helpfull players who would really mentor a noob is drowed out by level 30 players, who dont know the game, and ignore you.  Its more or less a scam to get more points.

If your really that casual, and it really bothers you that others are not, i think that mmo's in general are not for you.

If this system limits players to 4 hours of game time per day or 8 hours it still the zenith of stupidity. You NEVER limit player's game time in a given day.

Blizzard was planning to have a similar system in WoW but scrapped it early on because they realised a system like this is stupid and only serves to frustrate players.

If the developers do not see how unpopular stamina is then they just bought themselves a flop.

I highly dount the OP played for more than an hour on CB2. I did 13 hours straight and still had slightly over 10 stamina left.

Granted, I didn't spend all that time grinding low level mobs so I could flood the market with junk and drag the economy through the floor, so maybe I'm doin' it wrong.

And before you start: yeah, I know full well that the stam cap is reduced to 50 per day at lvl 50+. While it might be tough upgrading mercs and you have to pick your battles a little more carefully, but it completely puts a stop to botting/gold farming and encourages people not only to be social but to use the ingame store as well.

They're not making free games just for you, these are real people with real jobs and real needs...

Perhaps getting a job might be a good way for you to burn some time waiting for your stamina to reset.

Yeah i just saw that they announced they will tweak to stamina a slight bit.  Now it will regen a point ever 10min and roll over 1-30 stamina a day.  Anyway, even if they did remove the stamina, the game kinda got really boring after playing it since cb1 started....yeah big shock...f2p korean game got boring really fast.  Ill just stick to eq2, even after a long time that game is still has a lot more non-boring playtime left.  I think once a lot of people get over the "turned based combat is new so it rocks in an mmo" phase they will probably come to the same realization...its boring.

Quite frankly I fail to see how anyone could play this game for hours and hours and have 80 some odd stamina left over unless you're just cruising around the landscape not attacking anything.  I just started a character today, played it up to L18 over a period of maybe 2 hours, and ran out of stamina just doing the quests and playing a little bit with the armor/weapons enchantments.  No hardcore grinding.  Very casual get-to-know-the-game type play.  Of the 100 available battles, I would estimate that maybe 15-20 were not engaged in solely for advancement of quests.

So why didn't I enter the Free League to try and win some stam back?  First of all, it's not very clear what one needs to do to regain stam points.  Second, the League only comes up every so often.  Third, it appears that the lowest bracket is for level 15-25, and since L20s have an extra mercenary available, I don't think my odds of success were very good.

The intent of stamina is good and noble -- to build community interaction blah blah blah world peace.  In actuality, all it does is force people to do something they may not necessarily want to do in order to continue advancing their progress in the game.  Make me WANT to PvP.  Don't make me PvP.  See the difference?

For those who say this is good because it short circuits the gold pharmers, it's never a good idea to make a game a pain in the rear to play just to make it harder those people.  It didn't work in Age of Conan, and it won't work here.

Games are supposed to be fun.  If someone gets fun out of paying some guy in China for in-game gold, then fine.  It's not really too different from the Item Mall, is it?  Better yet, beat the gold pharmers to the punch and sell gold in the Item Mall.

As it is, it's like going to play games at the Carnival boardwalk and saying that you can only play 10 games after which you won't get any prizes or tickets to redeem later until you go ride the rides that only some people go to on their own.  However you can still play the games, but you won't get anything even if you ring the bell, sink the shot, or whatever the point of the game is.  Effort without reward is just work.
