I hope they push EQ 2

Honestly at this point with all the RPGS out right now none of them intrest me. Ive played every single one out such as COH , L2, DOC, AC2, SWG.... etc and everyone one bores the crap out of me. The only true game I ever was obsesed and loved was EQ because all my friends played it. After awile EQ stared to become ruined with all the expansions and economy flucuations that all of us quit. For the time though while we played we had such a blast. After we quit we all tried out the mmorpgs I mentioned and every one in one way or another either has horrible fighting system/ PvE or horrible mechanics/ community. Yeah I also did try the WoW beta test and uh huh It was fun because it was the sort of genre that I love+ it is a super hype up game from a great company which you would allready expect with all the money and time poured into it to be very good. My point is though that yeah it was fun but it wasn't EQ it didnt give me the same feeling. Another thing I really miss the grouping in EQ before PoP came out because they were actually groups all over the place and they were really fun to fight in. At this point in time I have waited long enough for EQ 2 and I would love to start lvling despite the game not being perfect yet I the kind of person who can suffer the bugs. I really just want to start lvling and learn the basics of the game + I know everyone who is going to get into EQ 2 would purchase the game if it came out today despit the bugs. What im really hoping for is a November 15th release despite it being perfect or not because if WoW comes out first I know all my bros are gona get into that and probably stick with it which will suck. I hope all you EQ fans agree that this game needs to come out soon or were gona go bonkers! At least I know I am =P

For once i would like to see a mmorpg come out when it is actually ready. They all seem to come out in a pretty ordinary buggy state.  I would rather see EQII get it right and be released later but be ready rather than earlier and be buggy.

    at least start open beta!

Releasing a game before its ready will do nothing but damage its reputation in the long run. So many games had the opportunity to have a huge playerbase much larger than they ended up actually having. All because they released a buggy game with missing content.

Look at games like AO that had horrible releases but then got better later. They became great games eventually but alot of the people who quit after the first month never came back to try it again. They had already moved on to other games.

If EQ2 releases before it should in the far more compettitive market that faces it now in comparrison to the first EQ that had very few games to compete with it will spell doom for this game. To drop the ball and not put out their best effort will mean games like WOW or MEO will be what players turn to after the "free" month and they will likely never return to see EQ2 become the game it was originally meant to be.

Yes and some of us dont like to sit around and wait forever for games to come out . I either want to play the game or not. I dont feel like waiting another 5 moths to play this game. School is in and I need a good game to get my mind off it. Nobody would wana wait 5 moths instead of one because even if the game isnt perfect it will still be the game I will play.

waiting is probably the best course of action they could take, let open beta run for a few months get all they can worked out. then release it when they feel they have worked out most of the problems, you can always expect to find more though. making this the best it can possibly be upon release will definately help to keep players, playing. i really want to play it, but i can use my patience and wait a while still, its been in production for probably over 3 years, a few more months wont kill anyone.

  • MischiefMischief Member UncommonPosts: 79

Well said Starman, AO is probably the best example of a game coming out to early. I played for two weeks. Never played again, but heard it was rather good later.

The next great game will come from a company that is patient. Every major title has a huge crowd when it releases that try it out. Many leave after a couple months because of bugs, downtime, and LACK OF CONTENT.

By content I mean story, quests, unique mob's, adventure and options. Not just mission terminals or random wandering mobs to grind off of.

If EQ2 is released without these things a great majority of people will try it out and say.. "wow, I was expecting so much more.." Then move on.

EQ2 already has a big enough disadvantage since so many have such high expectations that no matter how good the game is when it is released they will be disappointed.

I guess my point is, I hope they take as much time as they need to release a good game.

I would rather see them get it right the first time.  Is there going to be an open beta? Does anyone here think so?

  • LSDMiraculixLSDMiraculix Member Posts: 95

but this game is sooo boring and has no atmosphere. everybody will be disappointed no matter how high their expectations are. i had none. i only hoped that this beta will give me more then the WoW stress test gave me without talentsystem and all the stuff that was still missing. but this game is so boring that i play nothing atm and have more fun!
the only good job they did is take 1000 highend graphic system elements but u still fell like in a plastic puppet world.
these guys have a real big job to do before they should release this game.

    LSD,

What other reasons besides the graphics (which I think look wonderful in all the screenshots I have seen) urges you to believe the game needs more work?

I realize you said it was boring, but that is a broad topic.

I'm assuming you're in Beta... so don't break the NDA answering my question.

I have to agree that they should hold EQ2 until it is ready.  I'm currently playing Eve On-line and find it to be a fantastic game.  That said, it appears the game almost failed at initial release from everything I've heard.  Most of the mail threads I read regarding EARLY Eve focus on bugs and lag.  Too bad, because the current version of the game is fantastic.  Fortunately for Eve, the player base is growing at a very steady rate.  The developers have caught up and the game rocks.  That bodes well for the future.

    But the lesson here is:

If a game gets released too early and is bug ridden then it will get a bad reputation and bad reviews.  You don't want that.  Let the developer do the right thing and release a good product.  It should be worth the extra wait.

It seems like I have been waiting forever for EQ2 to come out since I have followed every little bit of information I could find on it the last few years.  After waiting so long I sometimes wish it would just come out now as well but I realize it would not be a wise decision.

They really need to make sure they take the time to get things right instead of just saying they will add so and so feature after launch like so many mmorpgs say they will.  Also I am so disappointed in the graphics (purely the lack of artistic quality not the technical aspect) that I would happily wait another year if they would start over from scratch in that area with an actual art team.

I just hope when it does come out that it can recapture some of the magic the original EQ had since I don't want to have to wait for Vanguard to do that.

Personally, I'm not at all worried about the game being done or not when it comes out.

I have faith in the Devs (and the Beta testers!) that they'll make sure it is released when it is good ready. MG has stated this several times and I'm sure he'll say it again if we asked him.

Whether SOE releases EQ2 on Nov 15 or not is really not the most important thing to me.  I just  hope that when the game is released that it is ready with a reliable functional combat system, good user interface, sufficient content, a strong basis for an effiencient in game economy, and last but not least, stable server and network.

There was a lot to be learned from the SWG release that I am sure Sony has taken into account. However, the emense anticipation of EQ2 is nothing to take lightly.  When EQ2 is released I fully expect the largest MMORPG launch in history. Registration servers will be absolutely inundated with activity.... will they be able to handle it?

On a lighter note I personally I hope EQ2 isnt released until Dec 6th.  Thats when I get back home image

When EQ came out there were problems.  With every expansion they released there were a few bumps in the road too, but most of us understood and it was a blast.  I agree, the sooner the better.  From everything I've heard the bugs are minimal now, and we will deal with it . . . bring it on . . . the sooner the better!!

All of them and more. As I said elsewhere, it isn't ready by a long shot. And for those that say they'll deal? No you won't. Not when you can't access the necessary zones to advance your character, so you're permanently stuck at level 6, or your character get's stuck in an instance that keeps crashing.

    Coldmeat,

Are you always such a warm, optimistic, and patient person?  There aren't issues like you are suggesting now in Beta, why would you expect it to be that way at release.  If you are so worried though, wait for a month or two after release and I'm sure whatever minor problems do exist will be worked out.  In the mean time lots of us would enjoy the adventure even if there are a couple of glitches.  By your posts though, I'm guessing you would never want to be a Beta tester.  image

I am in the beta, thanks.

And yes, all of the things he listed are there, except maybe, the rubberbanding, thouguh I've seen things that could be called rubberbanding.

And yes, it's true, I am that warm, and optimistic. As for patience? I'm not the one screaming for the game to be released right now. My opinon, which I have stated here in other threads, is they should hold off until Jan/Feb '05. But why use facts when it's easier just to assume things.

OK Cold Meat STFU! Your in beta moron you get to play so why would u care when its release you idiot. I hope they kick you from beta because you talk about it to much. Your probably not even a die hard EQ fan like some of us are and alost of us could care less if its perfect as long as we can play. EQ had many problems when it came out and I still loved it. You should never be in beta because fans like us would acutally enjoy the experience and milk it for all its worth when jurks like you diss on the game and act like you could care less about it you jerk. I hope you burn.

Don't worry, he's not "IN" Beta, if he was, he sure wouldn't talk about it. There are always chumps who pretend, just ignore it. I too, want the game live "yesterday", there are always bugs, always will be bugs, and always fixes and advancements as well. Heck, 14 months into SWG and we had our very first food "virus". lol Things happen, they get dealt with, then the game lives on. Edited by Yeti image

Your stunning display of intelligence has won me over. I'll forward your intelligent andn dwell written missive to the developers post haste. I'm sure you ADHD... er enthusiasm will win their hearts and minds, and they'll release it tommorow. Just for you. I sincerely hope you have fun having your character stuck.

    [/sarcasm]

    I'll be nice.

I care when it's released because having a bad release hurts the game. Moreso when WoW, and Guild Wars will be coming out at about the same time frame. I realise your adolescent mind might have a hard time grasping the need to wait for something, but you should probably get used to it now, rather than later.

I care because I want the game to be good. Which is why I help test the game. Actually test the game, not just play it because I'm too impatient to wait for release. While you might be willing to play a broken game, the majority of people aren't.

If being told that your super favoritest game in the whole wide universe isn't ready to be released gets you so worked up that you wish bodily harm on people, then I suggest you skip playing EQ2, and spend your free time getting some therapy. Seriously.

P.S. There's no space in my name, if you please.
