yea, exactly..... ToA did it for me.  Went back years later and I couldn't reconnect.  *sigh* the memories... hehe.

Repeated nerf battings hurt my head.

played for 4 years.  biggest reason i quit is because the leetest attitude in the game now.  sucks cause

the community use to be the greatest.  on top of that my fav saying was that if i'm playing the class it

is about to get nerfed.  some nerfs wanted to make me cry.  as far as origins well it's not gonna be

the original game everyone is hoping it will so i won't be playing that.  i did enjoy the great relic battles.

especially enjoyed the epic keep takes.  best pvp i've played to date of any game.

i played on and off like every year or so sometimes longer, but really after ToA it was just too annoying to get all the gear, skills, etc, just to be able to really compete in RvR and in the Labyrinth.

I played from launch until about a year or two ago. I quit for a few reasons. Lack of population, many balancing mistakes by Mythic, my class becoming obsolete in RvR (Armsman), and too much crap just getting added in (instances, Master Levels, Champion Levels, Artifacts, and more and more and more! poor noobies).

I missed the days when there would be new players that I could group with in the open oldschool dungeons. /level and instancing killed any chance for that. RvR became too caster scentric and depended on who had the most abilities available on their timers. The clustering was just starting to become ridiculous (yet needed) when I left. And finally, lack of Mythic to really try to overhaul the game to either bring it up to date or return it to its roots because they were busy with WAR. (Origins server has been pushed back, what shot it had of drawing in old players is now gone now that its behind the WAR release date)

And finally the attitude of the people in the game changed from big alliances trying to help eachother out to elite RvR pugs that just were in it for themselves and their RPs. No one helped in raids unless they could get something out of it, then they left right away.

DAoC was my first MMO I played in-depth, I played on and off, highest level was a 39 shadowblade I think. I guess what really put a fork in it was SWG. Havn't played DAoC since 2003.

ToA broke the game for me.  I went back and saw what they did to the frontiers and that was it for me.

I heard they brought up classic servers, but still had the clustered frontier.  if they bring back the old frontiers I would re sub.

Then you are going to hate everything about WAR and you should leave these forums because we are all idiots and you are obviously superior. Please...we are not worthy...just leave us to out simple mindedness.

    /sarcasm off

But in all seriousness...why do you even come to these forums then?

    Who called anyone a idiot?

I was saying my opinion of why I didn't like it and fyi WAR is soooo much better UI and movement wise and rightly so seeing as it's new.

    Talking about SWG much?

Well the community is complete crap now.. used to be pretty good.

Then they added more gear and leet powers so the people who suck at the game could actually beat you.  Most of the "leet" you'll find now couldn't have fought their way out of a wet paper bag...  back in old daoc.

Plus the blatant use of a speed hacks and radar has made a large return.. no sign of ToS enforcement of any kind..   Is pretty much why I currently quit.

Ya I realize the game is pretty much dead.. but its hard to say hey we made daoc go play WAR.. when you look at what people are doing in DAoC every day...  Pretty pathetic to be honest.

We had one guy who was like level 18 was repeatedly killing a 50.. day after day... for xp/rp.  Reported every day by numerous people.. far as I know they are still "investigating" cuz he's still playing...  Of course this was before I quit last time.. So it takes at least 6 months to figure out someone logged in a 50 in one realm and farmed it with an alt in another realm... I mean there are some overpowered classes in DAoC but I don't know many 18's that can continually beat a 50.

The more time that went by I guess people figured out they were no longer banning due to almost no subscriber base.. so the worse it got.

This alone pissed me off so much I hope Mythic goes away.. I'd rather see a game shut down than turn into the cess pool DAoC has.

Of course.. this is just my opinion based on what *I* have seen in game.. others may and probably do vary...

Well, I don't agree with you Antarious, but I have seen times when the things you talk about have popped up.  I've seen the most of it, surprisingly, on the Bossiney cluster.  A couple months ago my guild moved back over to Devon cluster and some things seem better.  But really, I have felt for several years that most of the "old" games suffer from similar problems to what you have described.  I don't think you could paste the label just on DAOC.

I quited DAoC for a far far far better pvp game, namely Age of Conan.

DAoC was my 2nd mmo after EQ, had a lot of fun in it. I actually stopped playing sooner than i wanted because my guild broke up (RL friends). Started up again after a year with new friends and quit several months later due to time constraints. Looking forward to RvR action in WAR more than anything.

Have to wonder when you played because the crafted items have always had much beter stat's specially after the spell crafting was added.  LGM (revered) Armor Crafter.

I quit DAOC for two reasons:

    1)  I'm not all that into PVP.

    2)  I mistakenly made the assumption that better games would be coming out from 2003 onward and have been wrong for 5 years.  By the time I recognized my error, I was too far behind to get back into the game and its population was flaggin from too many drastic changes.

However, I always admired the seriousness and beauty they put in the world's design and in-game music, plus the weapon and armor graphics were awesome and still superior to those found in many newer games today.

Dark age of Camelot was quite simply the greatest MMO to date.

It's all opinion, of course, but I'd give top MMO awards as follows:

    Combat System:  DAOC

    Weapon/Armor graphics:  DAOC

    Music:  (tie) EQ/DAOC

World:  EQ (pre-Luclin, of course), but DAOC wasn't bad

I quit DAoC because it was losing too many members and I had friends playing CoH.  After a few months of CoH I went back to DAoC and there just wasn't enough people to make it as fun as it was.  I tryed WoW, Vanguard, and EQ2, but none of them were close to as much fun as Dark Ages, so instead of paying for a dying DAoC, I saved that 15 bucks a month to get a new laptop to play WAR with.

I played DAoC from Beta 1 through ToA. I remember exploring Forest Savauge and Snowdonia the very first day the Devs put them in play. For whatever reason, I was the only one there at the time, and I really enjoyed the solitariness of the experience. I had an excellent guild with genuinely thoughtful folks, and had a really good time (even when slaughtering thousands of trees out in Lyonesse to help others level to 50). It was a great game...until ToA. Then things just got weird.

Played from beta until just after TOA released and relealized the direction the game was headed was not for me.  I also had problems with the constant nerfs midgard seemed to get daily and hated area affect spells!  Must say i had a blast though and love how War is bringing back that RvR feeling that only DAoC had.

I played DAOC from launch until a few months after ToA. Then I came back when classic servers came out and played for another year or so. The biggest thing that killed it for me was cross-realming. I am ready for Warhammer Online and would play DAOC again off and on if they have a dual sub for both games.

Mythic chosing to nerf classes.   If developers are unable to balance their game without mindless nerfing, or cave into the whiners who lack skill and ability to develop strategy, then I cancel my subscription.

I think all MMOs built upon the foundation of PVP will suffer from this issue.   They are not about implementing a skill based game that rewards creativity and tactics.   The developers are about maintaining the largest population possible and this means dumbing their pvp down to give the masses a chance at winning.

Therefore the lowest common demoninator, the zerg, determines who wins in a skilless PVP environment.

Guild Wars or Eve have far better pvp environments.    So I cancelled DAOC and know that WAR will suffer the same fate.

Shitty 1999 interface and slow pace of game that bored me to tears in EQ duplicated with different skins..

    *thumbs down*

    Did I play DAOC? Yes

Why did I leave?  A wise man once said, "when you come to the end of a book, close the book"

  • NihilxNihilx Member UncommonPosts: 141

Played it on and off since launch. Except for the lack of balance, I liked the game a lot. But lack of population on my servers caused me to finallt lay it to rest.

AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...
