I'm very concerned about this issue. Especially about the tank shortage in both empire and dark elves communities. Both of the are actually facing a race which has 4 classes. I hope that those of you who plan on starting guilds starting in those races plan on renting a Chosen or Swordsmaster because Greenskins and dwarves are even and I think that this battleground is going to be the most intense. I hope we can discuss about strategies to overcome this imbalance at launch.
THis is just rhetoric. Wait till the game comes out. People will love to be a tank.
The point of my threat was not to cry that such realm is imbalanced, but to open people's eyes on an issue that will enhance the game. Not only you will have to choose to play a tank but you will also have to choose on which front you want to evolve. This issue WILL enhance teamwork and diplomacy between races of the same factions.
If only weve got just 1 IB or Chosen to choose to run into a different front for the good of his faction, we helped enhance the team work system of the game. The ones who will do it will gain my respect and be seen as team players.
After reading the posts I came to realise that what I tought was an imbalance was actually an oportunity for tank to maybe go to some place where you will be needed.
Of course, if in tier 4 nobody tends to fight for his own turf, my post fails .
Originally posted by Yunbei As I ususally play tanks I was quite smitten by the deletion of these classes. And indeed to me it looks like the balance may be quite screwed now. No idea how valid Mythics claims were. It would be interesting to hear some long-time beta testers opinion, if there werent the NDA. I think Order will have difficulties, not to speak of the hilarity to creat a warhammer world and NOT have Knights of the Empire. Ridiculous, but hey, who cares about lore these days...
From a realm vs realm standpoint things are more balanced now than before. Before we had 10 ranged classes and 14 melee and now we have 10 ranged and 10 melee. It might cause some issues in specific racial pairings at low levels but as I said before, when you have entire guilds entering the game together I bet the problem is minimized pretty quickly.
I'm much more concerned about realm population balance than archetype balance.

Don't be worried, in low level RvR areas you die pretty fast regardless. Having a tank won't help much, and when you reach the higher level areas you will have more of your allied factions tanks helping out.
Also, everyone seems to forget one thing. If your realm doesn't have a tank class, more players will roll DPS/healer classes. No matter how many tanks you have, a wall of Ranged DPS + Healers is a very intimidating and efficient killing-machine.
you know this is so far off it's not even funny . don't post S*** like that .
I'm sorry, I guess after watching the Dark Elves win the majority of scenarios against the High Elves despite not having a tank class has dulled my senses. My bad.....
A lot of you people put way, way too much energy into being worried about a game that isn't even released yet. If you don't think its going to work out wait a while before you buy the game. You don't need to get a game the day its released to play it.
If you wait for say, a month after the game is first released you'll hear how it actually is. If you enjoy being a tank and hear that it sucks in WAR don't buy the game. Its really quite simple. You don't need to be the first to have something just to have it. If you have questions about what you're buying you really should wait.
Also, I don't see why people are saying they should have pushed back launch to work on four classes. Twenty classes is still a considerable amount and if you have no desire to play any of those then you're just too damn picky. How many other games have that many classes? There just is no reason to hold up a finished game for something that doesn't necessarily need to be there for the game to work.

I didnt want to ask question about Race vs race balance because of the NDA. But if I understand things are pretty even on the battlefield even though a tank or melee is missing here and there...
generally it's always a good idea to give mmorpgs a month or 2... unless you REALY love the game...
EVERY mmorpg will have bugs on release... some minor, some major... but they will all break at large scale testing since there will always be someone who tryes something no other beta tester did...
I love seeing a bug and think to myself "ok... obvious bug... prolly everyone reported it... but now let's try to figure out why it happens"... but i rarely test something strange that results in weird bugs... well except for yesterday but that's another story ^^

Because Evil is the best in general.
Some mechanics will be botched. Some mechanics will be improved. They removed classes but I recall they spread some of the more necessary abilities; probably essentials for at least a half-assed version of what was lost. Threat reduction, threat increase, or damage mitigation, etc.
Order will always have its fans. A large portion of how most of the battles will end up will probably go to player skill. I'm sick of having had WoW fights end up to stats of Omgbbqrouge and his pet priest Getitoffme being better than three of my friend's combined. So I end watching this topic with

Tanks rock for PVE oh wait, WAR is a PVP focused game and tanks will be at a disadvantage compared to ranged damage dealers. (see DAOC for real life example) oh wait, destruction has some of the better non-tanking classes as well. Opps... Actually, its all speculation. Let the game release and we'll see how it plays out.
I can tell you aren't in the beta Tanks rock in WAR.
I don't think this is as big a deal as people think it is. At release the game will be much more guild based and your guild will probably bunch up in one location and naturally will bring tanks to each front.
What sized battles have you played in though and what level?
I think tanks rock as well. I have played in all size battles all levels.

I agree with tanks being an awesome class in both rvr and pve. I've been playing since guild beta started.

Your acting as if TANKS were deleted.
Suck it up, go play another tank.
All I can say is you don't need to be too worried.
