seems to me from all the videos put up today, there isnt much unique gear for characters (at least in looks). All Whitch hunters have the SAME hat..maybe different color, all Bright wizards have very similar robes, charcter generations has very little options to look unique, hope the do something like EQ2 or LOTRO and let you equip stuff to have a "LOOk" thats isnt your gear. 5 whitch hunters standing around with a gun in one hand sword in the other and the same hat is not very immersive for an online world

If you are concerned about uniqueness of looks, there is a very extensive color dying system in place that allows you to change the primary and secondary color of most clothing items.
You are not going to see drastic differences in equipment within a class, so you will always see witch hunters with guns and swords. Thats what they do. However you will see changes in the visuals of each new item you get.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
Also, you can make template characters with the same gear on as well on some servers. Might explain why so many people look the same.
To me, it make it feel more like you're facing an army of them. The concept of Warhammer Table top...
Whaaa ? template = Beta..
Doubt it, if WOW doesnt have it then WAR wont have it.
If you havent seen already, the UI layout is almost identical, NPC quests givers are identical except the icon over their head isnt a ? or !
Oh and the PvP will be dictated by VoIP guilds with the larger ZERG, and thats for sure! its already an issue in CB i will hate to see how bad it will get once the game releases and all the PvP players from other MMO's flock over.
I think itemization could use a little work right now. Blathian you are very observant, give this guy cookie.
I like the fact that gear looks like the characters did on the tabletop and not some toolbox like in WoW. The main thing I detested about WoW is that they had some really stupid designs for gear.
You can turn off hats and cloaks and what not, and dye your armor. I actually like the fact that guilds can now have a color code and not just a tabard. That was one thing I loved about DAoC.
There is always the possibility that beta was run with a very basic itemization. You know, to not show EVERYTHING. Even though I am a huge fan of WAR the itemization is lacking. . .

You wouldn't understand
Putting in new items and looks is easy to remedy. It's great for right now, but I do hope they add more stuff after release. I actually want more varity in trophies as well.
The reason you are seem alot of similarity is for a few reasons.
First of all low qualitly videos if you zoom in and look the vary quite a bit,
The reason many of the WItch Hunters have the same hat because in Tier 2 when you get the hat you get one and they do look at the same just like in Tier one when you get even to level 6 most of the classes look the same, as people spread out and do diffrent quests and not recieving the same reward because they choose not to do a specific quest. Same with many of the quests.
Most people don't invest in dyes because they will change there armor in a level or 2. You can create a lot of diffrent looks simply on changing the dye.
The uniformity is with in the lore all characters are troops. They still need to work on the trophy system so they can be seen between that and the dye system you can make a unique outfit also if they do add in the whole beard growing / Orc’s getting bigger mod back into the game later that is another attribute that might help.
And just to add AGAIN....the loot tables are not yet complete in beta.....there will be LOTS more fun stuff coming in final release so dont worry over that.
Well, it kinda made me ponder right from the start. I mean, ok there are those Planetside-guys who zerg all the time, and sticking to soldier armours/uniforms never cared about look anyways.
But for many, how they look does matter. Now there are two ways to deal with it.
One is the City of Heroes approach: you dont get much loot or other gear to dress up individually, but make a genuine character right away with many choices.
The other is the WOW-like approach, by giving tons of drops and loot to dress up.
It seems WAR has neither. I had expected a MMO not so much gear centered like WAR would have a detailled character customization to balance it. Every time I read about WAR these days, my former enthusiasm melts away.
Also everyone kinda looks the same because in beta char customization isnt really implemented much, when release you'll see different heads, bodies, hair etc.
I agree, though its worth noting that most of these kiddies couldn't care less about reading a book or playing a tabletop game (and probably never have or will), so they cant be expected to understand why WAR is what it is.
Old school TT players like myself however, are shitting a brick over what we see, beauty is all in the eye of the beholder. This is the electronic representation our game, most of us have been waiting well over a decade to see something like this come to pass, alot of us since the days of MuDs being the top end in online fantasy games.
Its not a PvP game, it is an RvR game, there is a MASSIVE distinction between the two.

Its probably one of the worst character creation area's in an mmo I've encountered. So, So limited.
Someone posted some videos on your tube of how it works, even the commentator says its depressing but shrugs it off.
Its definately a failhammer in this area.
No way to be properly unique.
