The players, not the game, run off new subscribers

Billius8Billius8 Member Posts: 574

Anyone who farms noobs has no business complaining about the low subscription levels of Shadowbane.  The game itself is not so bad and has quite a few points that I like (i.e., character creation, nice armor and weapons graphics, etc).  However, if you're new to the game, there's a good chance you'll be instantly turned off the first time you venture into P vs P land and get owned by some fool who get his thrills out of trashing your level 20 character with his level 55.  Meaningless, "grief" P vs P is the primary factor, in my opinion, that subscription levels are going down.

Some of this could have been alleviated by adding a few more safe zones which characters of all levels can benefit from and ditch this "errant" status thing.

I agree, I think the newbie land should go up to level 35 or so

You character won't be any good at PVP until then

Suck it up. Everyone dies when they are lowbies and when they get ranked characters. One of the aspects of the game is being able to get revenge on the pkers when you get to higher levels. Dont cri about it, level up and kill them repeatedly.

That's not an issue of needing to toughen up, it's a rather good explanation of why a game wouldent get many long-time subscribers.

thrills out of trashing your level 20 character with his level 55.

It's one of Shadowbanes fundamental issues.. mixing level grind & classes in a free for all pvp environment.  After leaving the newb island you're still required to level grind up to be competetive, which is difficult with level 50+ players camping xp grounds designed for players fresh off newb island.

Only thing I can suggest is to join a large existing guild & get them to powerlevel you up.

PvP players with this mentality are the other reason.  It's one thing to kill some one of near or equal lvl.  Most of the so called 'hardcore pvpers' though.  Will go out of there way to find players.  That are many levels below them, and don't stand a chance versus them.  Then claim it took skill. image

Sure dying is apart of any PvP game.  But when you go out of your way to pick on those weaker then yourselves.   Please don't call yourself a 'true', 'real', or 'hardcore' pvper.  Because it's insulting to people like me that PvP for the challenge.

    In Death - Sacrifice.

I never go out of my way to kill lowbies, but if I am in a pvp group and we run itnot them by chance then guess what they will die.   Also people talking about a level grind, there is not a real grind in SB you can go from level 1 to 63 in less than a week without powergaming. The first character you ever create will take longer because you will have to find a guild but after that it is extremely easy. Also there are some guilds that only exist to pl lowbies and they do not care what guild you are from.  Shadowbane is one of the easiest games to hold players responsible for their actions. All you have to do is track them down.

"Join an existing guild to pl you up"  what happened to start your own guild and build your own  empire oh wait  you cant  there isnt even a spot to build a city  this game is soooo far from its original version  so far from the abilities it had at release  its sickening   this game is planetside in the fantasy world   given the content for a new player  it really is a waist of money  they had such a hot game..."Mourning" looks like the death of shadowbane!

You can start your own guild and become and Empire. Make an errant guild then talk someone into sellign you a bane scroll. Place a capture bane and you have a city. Damn that is not a real hard concept. Trees are won and lost everyday.  When Treachery was still a server, JDD lived out of the runes and when the time was right they captured a city of their own and formed an nation there.

The whole point of the game is to be massively merciless.  Some people are still confused as to what that means.  You have noob island to at least get a start in the game.  You can level to 1 - 20 in complete peace.  After that you can go to a safehold to lvl to 45 now.  The town is safe, but the exp zone isn't.  That in itself seems very noob friendly to me.  Some people wish that every place in the world was ffa PvP.

Beyond the safe zones every where in the world has to be FFA PvP or the game just isn't going to work.  The life of a low level guy is certainly going to be rough.  I got PK'ed many times as I leveled, but its not like I couldn't return the favor when I got my levels.  This is the only game where you can truely get revenge on people.  I just played a factional PvP game.  The people in my faction were complete idiots, and talked smack, and stole your exp zones.  In SB you can get a group of low level guys and PWN the crap out of them.  Other games you just have to put up with their griefing.

I agree and think they definately need to up the safehold zone to 35 or even 50.  When ShadowBane started it was different because most people were still leveling, so getting rolled in lower level xp zones usually meant people near your level or just a bit higher.  But now it usually means a group of r6.  UBI definately needs to look into expanding the safeholds to r4 or even r5.  And you shouldnt be required to join some zerg guild such as EB just to compete.

Make friends, join guilds, never level solo.

I had a group of level 20ish players KILL a level 70+ barbarian... we KILLED him.. when he attempted to pk our group...

Adapt to survive? Make a nation? Crush your enemy?

Having mechanical restrictions hurts a "true" roleplay enviroment.

How could they burn the wicked if they were bound to newbie island? or to a realm in DAoC....

Well Well an EB basher. I hate to tell you but EB the guild only fields around 30 people our nation fields between 60 and 80. Also anyone wanting to join EB GL it very rarely happens. That is not a zerg. Honesly to get good xp you need to join a guild once you leave noob island if not it will take you months to get the levels that will only take days to get in a guild.  Noob island allows you to level to 20 then the safeholds do not kick you out until 40's. Leveling in SB is extremely easy even if you do get pked alot.

    yah totally agree..

This game is like nothing else!! The work that the dev team has accomplished is GREAT compared to what it was its a completely DIFFRENT game..

Imgine the fact that you can destroy some jerk's city that they built and really have fun in the process. It takes SKILL to play this game believe me! Skill to devise a diffrent stratigy to take a town! You have to check it out!
