My 2 cents.

So what’s the deal with all of these self proclaimed DAoC Vet’s coming out of the ductwork, I mean give me a break it wasn’t that popular back in the day.  I’m not going to say it wasn’t a good game, just that it was in my own personal experience a pain in the neck.  Leveling and PvP was just a major pain in the neck because there was always some little thing that made it not go as smoothly as you thought it would.

What makes you a DAoC vet?

Better Question:  How does being a DAoC vet have anything to do with WAR?

It’s a bloodly table top game that nobody ever played, Warhammer 40k had TONS more interesting fluff for the storyline.  AoC and WAR have just been an excuse for people to stop playing their current MMO that beat them mentally.  Remember before AoC came out there was all these Anarchy Online fanboi’s that said it would be the best mmo of all time?  Well after that got flushed down the toilet everyone went from being an Anarchy Online vet to a DAoC vet.  I haven’t really posted much at all on these forums but from observing for a long time (before finally deciding to create an account) I’ve noticed that this trend of a imaginary mass exodus from one MMO to the next is not ever going to end.  I bet after WAR comes out there will be another supposed mass exodus from it (not) and everyone will claim to be Darkfall fanboi’s from the very start.

I have pre-ordered the CE a couple months ago, I am looking forward to WAR but its really annoying reading post after post of just nothing but reply’s on how everyone and their mom is a DAoC vet and always thought AoC would go under.  These forums just seem like a MMORPG gamer’s limbo from the thing that kept him hooked in the first place: the first MMO the gamer played.  Trust me no other game can take away the addiction that was once in your first MMO.

That’s just my 2 cents, sorry for being a troll.  Dont expect any replies from me sorry.

We all love MMO's and everyone gets bored of everything eventually if they do it long enough so there are always tons of people that will welcome every new MMO as a new gaming experience.

What is so bad about people claiming they are OG's?

I"d like you to go into the nearest Gaming shop or a GamesWorkshop store and tell people that Warhammer Fantasy never sold .. You might make it out with one less arm and a broken face.   Warhammer fantasy is extremely popular if it hadn't of been they'd of never been able to afford to make Warhammer 40k or any of the the subsequent games that they've produced since then.

i honestly laughed. in my opinion 40k is much more interesting, but the amount of people who play the tabletop is far from small.

You must never have played War table top before.  Anyone in the hobby pretty much plays both WAR and 40K and Necromunda and Gorka Morka and Talisman and Epic etc.....  the whole line or at least has tried it.  Post all you want about the game but do not criticize what you obviously know nothing about.

    Not everybody.

I'd consider myself somewhat of a vet. I started on release day and played for over a year. The second longest I've actively played an mmo. I liked the game and the only reason I quit is because a lot of my friends did and I felt alone. I personally loved RvR in DAoC. I also remember it being quite popular back in the day.

I state with a lot of my posts. I am not claiming to be a WAR fanboy. I've never played and know very little about it. Really I am not here because it's Warhammer. They could have put any wrapper around it for all I care. But I do admit it provides a great setting for what they're trying to achieve.  If you're going to make a game around RvR, I'd imagine you'd want some type of war setting. I dunno, call me crazy. I don't think it's a bloody game nobody played. Or WAR would have a different wrapper. I've seen people play it quite a bit at my local gaming/comic shops.

I never thought AoC would go under. I didn't and still don't follow beta tales/leaks. The only info I had was on the website or from playing through the first 20 levels in open beta. Which those first 20 were great gaming. After I left the polished area things changed.

and I will never claim to be a darkfall fanboy. I honestly have no idea what that game is even about. I think I am pretty much at the end of the line with these games. WAR will be the last one I really follow. I couldn't tell you any that come out after it. The market is too saturated and full of developers that just want warcraft money. They don't care about the gaming anymore.

and to answer you 'better question" You honestly don't see how being a DAoC vet has anything to do with WAR? I mean it's the same company, built around a lot of the same ideas. You honestly cannot for the life of you see even a small connection there?

DAOC was a horrible game and then Mythic pissed off all their customers by ruining what they loved in one expansion. Yet for some reason all the fanbois seem to forget that and claim the game was amazing with their rose tinted glasses.

What pisses me off about these forums because it's full of fanbois trying to defend the truth about the crap mmorpg they like. I mean they ain't popular for a reason and that reason is because they suck...

    EQ2 sucks

    Vanguard sucks

    DAOC sucks

    SWG sucks

The state of the whole genre is shite, theres one mmorpg which has done as well as single player games and that's WOW, the rest of the genre is in the stone age.

Well I said I wouldnt reply but I didnt know I would get flames so soon.  But ya I played 40k at a comic book store thats about an hour away from my home, around 6 years ago I went there every weekend.  I played the Necron's (before they even had a codex/new models) and I played Dark Eldar (yes I know they were junk, probably still are).  I didnt say that nobody plays table top games.  I said that nobody plays WARHAMMER (fantasy) tabletop back when I played, maybe they play now that WAR is about to come out.  Guess its more self proclaimed vets of the tabletop.  Table top games like 40k and warmachine are pretty fun but require a bit of an investment.  I dont play the games currently because I was sick of having to keep buying more models over the years, I still read the 40k novels because they are half decent.  I can say that I can go into a comic book store and ask them "ok about 5 years ago did warhammer models sell?" and they would reply "no they were in cold storage in the bargain bin".

Having played Dark Age of Camelot, and beta testing Warhammer, I can understand why people are referring back to experiences in DAoC. The reason? Warhammer plays like an expanded version of DAoC. It's essentially the same game with a lot of extra's added on, set in a different universe but feels very similar to camelot.

For many people who actually played DAoC for an extended amount of time, they probably enjoyed it, and enjoyed the support, free content updates, and expansions provided by Mythic. So it is no wonder that those people are openly offering their support for Mythic's newest title, because they believe in the company and their new brainchild WAR.

So in short, that is what being a DAoC vet has to do with Warhammer.

    P.S.

Warhammer is actually just as popular as 40k in regards to the table top. Had I not picked up 40k first and invested so much money into my army, as a personal choice I would have preferred to play Warhammer.

WAr is basically DAOC 2.  I'm a DAOC vet.  I know that Trials of Atlantis ruined the game and I left soon after that.    But I have many many many many fond memories of awesome PvP battles in their Battlegroudns and in RvR.

DAOC was a pioneer game like the original EQ.  It was a succssful pioneer game.  It was popular among the gaming community.  during that time people only knew about 3 MMO games.  EQ, Ultima Online, and Anarchy Online.  If you mentioned anything else, people were kinda confused.  so DAOC was the new kid on the block that only MMO players and other gamers knew about.  casual players didn't know about the awesomeness of DAOC.

If I look to my right there's an Epic (does anyone remembers Epic or even Talisman? - and while I'm at it: why not integrating EPIC in Warhammer 40K online? Since you seemed more compaled to play am online version of 40K? WH 40K Online is due out sometime in the near future - just google it), 40K and Fantasy Chaos Army in which some figurines are dated way back from late 80s (aprox. 20 y.o.).

Oh and just below it, a collection of pen & paper RPG books... No ones played or plays it you say? Hmmm.. intriguing, or maybe not. How can you then explain to me that the guys who founded GW are not millionaires?

Anyway that was a funny moment, thanks!

And about mass people pretending or being a true Vet from whatever game, I just simply don't give a damn... If it annoys you then that's another story and that I'll understand but in the end (for me at least) who gives a damn?

    Cheers!

Make sure it's a REAL gaming shop, with dice and miniatures and such. Gamestop and Best Buy don't count... they've probably never heard of WAR let alone the tabletop.

DAOC was a horrible game? Lol in your opinion. Its the AntiWar papaLazarou. Anyways DAOC was an amazing MMO imo , and yes 1 expansion wrecked it but the game itself was amazing.
