Without differentiating between hardcore and casual gamers it's very innacurate...
I've never played a game more than 6 months in a row, and that was Ultima Online. On the other hand, in those 6 months I played an average of 4 hours a day. Which means 1 month of playtime, same as I did with AC1 (in 4 months).
I'm expecting about half that with Warhammer after launch, and more if/when the first expansion comes out and adds depth to the economy and crafting system.
If I was a casual player I probably wouldn't have quit UO for 5 years and AC1 either, and War would last me 6-8 months instead of 3.
Well for me my average MMO lifespan is 3-6 months with some games breaking years. The ones that last long aren't because they are the greatest MMO's ever or anything, but it's because they were the perfect fit for my life at the time. For example, going to a Game Dev School where there were only dudes, and having a ton of free time FFXI was perfect and I played it for three years. Now I couldn't play it no matter how bad I wanted.
That being said, I have a little girl on the way and there are hardly any MMO's that cater to people like me. I could play EVE, or GW. With WAR I can see myself playing for a very long time. It is easy to log in and RvR or do a Scenario from anywhere in the game. Also i've probably played 70 hours this week, and I could have played more so at the same time as it being casual it can be very hardcore. I can see myself playing it for 1-3 years in a mix of casual and hardcore gaming sessions honestly. If not longer. It depends on what else comes out.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

When most of us start a new game that we are keen to play, we hope it will be a great game that we will enjoy playing for as long as possible.
To say at this stage you only plan on playing for 1-3 months is completely nuts, as your essentially saying that you KNOW that you wont really like this game for long.

I am here until Duke Nukem Forever comes out.
I see myself going for 6+ months. Depending on the things they add after release, maybe double. Triple with expansions perhaps?
That is, if I stop crashing and freezing. Otherwise, not even 1 week.
playing this game for 3+ months will be no problem.
Have the CE ordered. But doubt i will actually install it for a few months.
Logged into to beta, and was very underwhelmed. Starting combat frankly, seemed to suck to me.
Hard to get excited about a game that starts off with a bad impression.
Yes, i know, not a real test. Why i will not cancel pre order. But also why i wont be installing for a few months.
Hard to enjoy a game that does not grab you out of the starting blocks for me.
DAOC was one of the few games i played for more than the free time. So will hold off and hope that mythic comes through in a few months.
Forseable future.

Why bother?
This thread is complete trash and illogical.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Hopefully if the devs keep adding content I'll stay as long as possible!
