I know it's pretty self-explanatory but which would be better for performance? I know that CD drives come in 52x and I'm not so sure about DVD. But I'm getting a new comp just for this game so basically I will have the best CD drive and DVD drive. Now the question is, which of the 2 is it better to play on? If anyone has any suggestions let me know! I want to pre-order soon, so post away!

well I don't know that the performance of one over the other is really a factor but I can tell you that you will save yourself alot of time installing the game if you go with the DVD.
I myself don't have a DVD drive so I get to sit down with the 10-11 CDROM discs and have myself a fun old time. The DVD will be able to give you the same amount of info without using all those discs.

Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
The CD/DVDs will only be used for installing the game, the game will run off the HD.

Besides the time saved in the installing.
The deciding factor in getting the DVD EQ2 would be the fact that the collectors edition only comes with DVD's.
I don't see the benefit in owning a DVD Player that doesn't record though. There pretty cheap and easy to use.

Another plus for DVD is you only have two discs to lose, as with CD's you have 10-11 to misplace and make it so you can't install without getting another copy or finding a friends disc to use.

Run the game from the CD's?? I can allready imagine it:

difference with the DVD and CD, will mostly be a DVD hold's 4.8 GB's whilst a CD was 700 mb's.
so DVD will likely be 1 DVD, instead of maybe 2 or 3.

You can't run the game from the cd/dvd. It's an online game that's constantly being patched, you can't patch a cd/dvd.
There is no solo (I think you mean single player offline) vs online, it's only online.
The main differences will be:
CD version = 9-11 discs which will be a longer install time with cd swapping. No special bonuses included. This version would be useful if you don't have a dvd to install with.
DVD version = 2 install discs for a quicker install time and less swapping. Includes a few bonuses, plus an item for your house at the same price as the cd version. No reason not to get this one if you have a dvd drive.
Collectors Edition = Same as regular DVD (plus 40$). Includes an extra house item in edition to the others, and all the in-box goodies (map, book etc)

it isnt like that. You install the game and you never have to use those CDs again until you want to install it again.
Playing: Vanguard SoH
Played: EQ, Planetside, SWG, WoW, EQ2

O,
btw Diablo & Diablo II, however weak they are, ARE MMORPG's, each with the option to play online or single player offline... It isn't like the option doesn't exist, maybe just not for this game. I still find it interesting that the game is listed online with the DVD and not with the CD.... lol
p.s. a lil "red hair" never hurt anyone... hehe

Actually some games do allow play from the CD/DVD drive, whether EQ II will allow this remains to be seen. Obviously it "is" a horrible option, since the lag is unbareable. I highly doubt EQ II would allow this option, but, I am still curiou since the game is listed from retailers as "online" with the DVD version and "not" with the CD. I already have the DVD Collector's Edition pre-ordered, and my comp has everything needed, so, just waiting for delivery and launch. woot!

Hmm....swapping out 10 cd's or 2 dvd's....tough decision
edit: not to mention the fact that with only 2 discs, there is less of a chance of one being screwed up in the box
