Sorry if this has been posted before!
To the elder testers and others who were in CB way back, what can you say about the cut classes? Were they available to you for play? And was Mythic justified in their reason for axing them? (cause they just weren't fun enough)
Thanks in advance

The cut the classes because they were broken.. i mean, not where mythic wanted them to be by the launch date. And they figured it looked better then releasing a bunch of broken classes like Conan.
But in reality, it is no different.

I know the official company line, I'm just wondering what the testers who actually tried out the classes think. I posted this cause someone mentioned somewehre that the Choppa was cut because (in his opinion) the burst damage mechanic was seriously OP, and having designed the entire class around that core class mechanic, there was just no way to 'balance' it out.
Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing on Mythic, just curious to know what the cut classes were really like.

sounds like' they're doing the time-proven-wrong method of pushing release dates at the expense of gameplay quality/completeness... when will companies learn to release polished material if they want players to stick around or gain new players thru word of mouth
It would probably be elders who know this, Who are still under NDA . Like Desertfox said not much different here .

Actually it was the other way around.. thus we have a game launched without the broken, non quality, non complete classes.
There was no need to hold back the game for 6+ more months at the expense of 4 classes who can be added later on through content patches or expansions.
I was always interested in the choppa, anyone have a few old pictures of 'em?
Ah ok, I was not aware that elder testers were still under NDA. Thanks!

As I understand it thoes classes never actually made it into beta. I could be wrong but its what I was told anyway.
The elder's are not under a NDA, we just have a adjusted agreement to not post thing directly from the forums and to not let the cat out of the bag on any brand new content.
As for choppa's and Hammerer's, they 'were' finished. The problem was that both of them build up in strength over time during a fight. Which meant that both were very weak initially but after a bit of time fighting they became monsters. Mythic saw this as an unsuitable situation so have decided to shelf them for the time being so they can focus on the other stuff in game instead of wasting a lot of valuable time on adjusting the 2 dps classes. Yes, mythic is under pressure to publish this asap, but i think they came to a nice bit of middle ground with release date and content/polish. The tanks are a slightly different subject then the mdps.
2) The Elder Test Servers (ETS) are still fully covered the confidentiality provisions contained within the BTA. You may not talk about your experiences on the ETS at any time, even after launch, unless you hear otherwise from Mythic. This applies to all content/systems/etc. that differs in any way from the content/systems on the non-ETS. In the case of content/systems that are EXACTLY the same on the ETS and the non-ETS and you make no reference in your disclosure about the Elder Test Servers you may talk about the content/systems/etc. We?e giving you folks a little latitude here since we have so many Elder testers but please don? take advantage of it.
Which is exactly "don't spill the beans about new content" in my books. I don't see it as a straight NDA as we can talk about old content, but i admit it is a bit of a fuzzy line.
Because the Cutta was chopped.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
I been in beta since april of Last Year. I will go over two of the classes that were cut:
Choppa:
Main issue with the choppa was it had a very hard time closing the gap with nuking classes. Due to light armor / low hits it was almost like target practice for nukers/ranged. The Choppa was very close making it back into the game. Don't be surpirsed to see it added back in. It just needs a little tweaking here/there
Knight of the Blazing Sun:
Yes this was actually a playable class back in 07! This class was actually Overpowered. It blew the other tanks out the water. They would have to had revamped the entire career to bring it back in line. It was by far my favorite tank.
I see, thanks guys for the info! Good to see that the classes were in and mostly working, and more a matter of balance that kept them out. As opposed to being say pure fiction.

Well let me ask you this what would you have them do that you would find acceptable.. Do not say delay either, let us assume delay is just not an option because often in the business world delays are highly frowned upon.
I'm not trying to flame or anything, I'm just curious on your opinion and others who share it.
Anyone know what happened to the Black Guard? That was my favorite class out of the 4 that got booted.
Black guard was never in the beta.
KOTBS, hammerer and choppa were all in the beta early on, and werent in for the last 10 months or so.
KOTBS was the good guy version of the chosen, chosen had an aoe snare aura at the time, and KOTBS had an aoe run speed buff aura for allies. So they both used auras/strategies or whatever the KOTBS version was called. Not sure why this class was cut seeing as the chosen is still in. I expect to see it return soon and play similarly to the chosen. If you look around in the game you can see lots of KOTBS npc running around.
Black guard is the mirror of the IB. they were never in the beta but were supposed to be the evil version of IB fighting with spears and pikes. If you look around the game you can spot some blackguards. I liked the look of them, and they actually thrust thier spears, they dont swing them like a sword.
Choppa. This class had some sort of a berserk self buf that it put on itself that unlocked some of its more powerful moves. When you went berserk you actually sort of swelled up to a larger size than normal. They had 2 weapons, either scrappy looking swords or axes. This was a fun class, but its core mechanic was shallow and not very interesting which is the root cause of its removal. It wasnt up to snuff with the other classes and thier core mechanics so they shelved it and ran out of time to fix it for launch.
Hammerer was a dwarf with either a 2h hammer or 2 1h hammers. Thier core mechanic of "momentum" was never in the game. What was in was thier knockdowns. You would knock a guy down, and then crush him while he was floored. This was alot of fun in pvp and pve, and a gang of hammerers could mess you up. However the kd+ follow up was a shallow mechanic so that got shelved as well. At one point I believe hammerer had a passive KD proc where they might just knock you down off of any attack, this was nerfed/ removed before I was in the beta.
The classes that were cut will most likely make a return as all of thier art is already in the game, and 2 of them have existing mirrors in he game already.
hope that helps
