Destruction losing it's appeal?

I don't know about you guys, but destruction is kind of losing it's appeal to me. I was planning on rolling Destruction simply because I played Horde in WoW, but the whole "I'm rolling destruction because it's cool" vibe I'm getting almost makes me want to roll Order. Seems like in the same way more people rolled Alliance in WoW because the character's were pretty, WAR seems to be getting more people planning to play destruction because they are "Badass". Maybe it's just me though. Perhaps mass appeal makes things less appealing for me.

Anyone else getting this feeling?

I'm also interested in a few of the order's classes.

I dunno I guess I'll be trying them both out once Open Beta is live.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

It's sad to me to see so many people think it's cool to veer away from the popular stuff, a lot of them take it way too far into ridiculousness.

That said, I'm definately expecting it to go down like you said. The horde sentiment will spill over into Destruction. Horde are the preference on PvP servers, horde are cool , horde are better pvpers, allies are pansies, noobs, lack skill etc. People will eqaute Horde to Chaos and Alliance to Order no matter how unrealistic that comparison is in reality.

Dont choose a side. Choose a class.

I'm playing a Sorceress because to me it was coolest class and it looks bad ass in the new trailer. But I'm also going to play a Bright Wizard and Shadow Warrior on another server.

I also think that order will, to start, be the more disciplined underdog side. But it will balance out relatively quickly. I get the feeling that many people will roll toons on both sides and will end up choosing the side where they feel most at home and most appreciated.

always chose your side first.  this is important in any war.  as for me from what i see all the so called

uberleet cool kids are goin destro.  order is my place.  the challenge is what is about for me. not the

fotm class. so most likely will find the most underplayed class and play it.  good luck all

Yeah just play what you enjoy or where your buddies are going if you don't mind. It all comes down to fun. Some people like being the underdogs too. From what I can tell a lot of people were thinking destruction just from the fact they're all geared to be badasses in combat and fighting... lore wise anyway. Empire was just always on the defense and dwarves are dwindling in numbers as is. So yea destruction deff. has more appeal when it comes to pvp.

But sometimes you just gatta be a stubby bastard with a big hammer, ready to take on the world.

Im playing Chaos because I'm honestly into the idea of Chaos. I also played Chaos in table top for many years.

On another note, I really like High Elves, and played them as well in table top for a while. I will probably have a High Elf and Chaos character.

I do agree though that Order will be less populated, but hopefully it will be more dedicated people, and a better community. I'm more just playing chaos cause that's what I've always liked, but I don't expect much from the community.

Kinda funny most people I have talked to think most of the uberleet cool kids were going order side.

not always the case, the uberleetwtfbbq kids will prob roll order cause they kick ass in open RVR (more healers, more range DPS, WP, BW.....group of BW's AOE nuke is deadly btw). So you never know, they might roll destro cause they are cool but then they will roll order for the uberleetzomgwtfbbq factor.

OP: are you really serious?  wheres your backbone.  The game hasnt even coem out yet and you are not allowing yourself to enjoy it.  Man, those are some real psychological issues.

I choose my side based on the types of guilds I saw going to each. Many of the guilds I recognized from past games for being arrogent, elitist, rude, both in game and on message boards, were going destruction. A lot of guilds that always joined the zerg side and then talked smack when they won by superior numbers, were going destruction. Which is great - because really thats what destruction is all about. But it made my choice to go with Order really clear.

There are a lot of nice decent guilds on destruction that the description above definitely does not apply to. But unfortunately their presence is overshadowed by a lot of bad ones, imo.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.

What in the hell are you talking about? How is me not being able to decide what side to play me "not letting myself enjoy the game"? If anyone needs help, it's the person that tries to play psychologist on an internet forum.

Very good advice. Anyways, too the topic:

I brought up the issue of Destruction being the "new" alliance of warhammer to my war guildies who also happened to have played WoW beta.  Their response:

In WoW beta, horde outnumbered alliance because everybody wanted to be horde.  Then, everybody (the beta community) saw that the majority was playing horde so they decided to roll alliance come release, because they wanted to be the underdogs/ less populated side and they assumed that alliance would be that side.

Well this caused a chain reaction because the new players that came in didn't care about being on the underdog/less populated side.  Instead they just wanted to join the side that had the most people, or where their friends and experienced players were playing(which was the beta community).  This of course led to alliance being much more populated then horde at release.

So my guildies predicted the same thing would happen to warhammer.  Everybody in beta favors desruction right now.  Those same players will decide to roll Order in order to be the underdogs and play the less populated side.  This will then cause order to be the HIGHER populated side come release and thus being the new alliance.

I can't say if I agree with the logic %100 but my guildies have experienced it and believe desruction will be the underdog come release, that is why we are staying destruction.

I was going to go Witchelf before NDA lift but since the lift I've heard/read multiple times that Witch hunters perform better so I'll probably be going Witch Hunter at release, plus, I don't really want to play as some 80s chick.

No it's not really for the masses as the population has been skewed in favor of Destruction for a while now.  There is no point comparing Horde and Alliance with this game.  Once you get into WAR it is a whole different setting and atmosphere.

I couldn't play on Alliance in WoW because all human males looked like they belonged on the side of a can of baked beans or in lumberjacks overalls.  They look ridiculous.  This game you have great looking and innovative classes on both sides.

To me I want to play at least 4 classes in WAR and 2 just happen to be Order and 2 Destruction.  Don't sweat the small stuff.  Pick a class and ignore race.  Hell pick two classes.  This game is fun from the start not after hundreds of hours are invested so you don't have to make a choice that you might regret at end game.  I took 6 characters to level 10 and got them all very well equipped for T1 RvR and I could have done a couple more.  I had no worries about picking one and getting it as high as possible as fast as possible so really just take your time and enjoy the game.  The class will come to you, and then you won't even have to pick a side.

Thats pretty much what my guild said.   :)

Our guild will have be playing both sides on two different servers.

There are just too many deciding factors imho. If the game is as balanced as it seems from the beta community then the appeal is just going to either be on a personal factor of coolness or class appeal, where guilds or friends are, what race you like, ect. . . .

All in all play what you have fun with.

Yeah i knew from the start that i will go Order because Destruction is too badass for me :p. The bad signs from different polls, show that Order will be in a disadvantage when it comes down to numbers but i don't care, the more the better :P.

The only problem with witch elves is that barely anyone heals you due to the "Suicidal rogue" factor people have in mind. If you can find yourself a dedicated group, witch elves can really tear things up.

Although on that note, witch hunters offer more of a hybrid-like play, which is where I find they appeal most.

From the videos i've seen, Witchelves seem to be really good dps. Lots of pissed off BW videos lol. But one thing I did notice a lot was they were over extending and obviously going to die. With a good guild setup and knowing how far is too far and some strategy I think they'll be a valuable asset.

Having always resided with Chaos in the tabletop game, I have to roll Chaos and live the warp filled fantasy life.  Its hard to see how Destruction could ever LOSE appeal.  Since most of us will never go on a killing spree, the evil characters give us players the chance to live out those fantasies in a very small way.  Perhaps thats why the GTA/Saints Row games are so popular?

i had intended on playing Destruction at first because the BlackGuard looked like fun to me.  Now that its no longer in game Im not sure what Im playing; latey Ive been checking out the Engineer class.  It dosnt really matter to me Order or Destruction Im more interesed in what I think might be fun for me.  No matter which one I pick it certinly wont be based on which other people think is cooler.  It also wont be based on who people think is the easy-mode class or the least played or most played; it really will be just what ever I think Ill like.

tbh I'm going to be playing Order in order of importance because 1.) They are the most aesthetically appealing to me 2.) They will most likely be the under dogs 3.) The destruction scenery looks incredibly bleak while it's somewhat of a middle for Order (my preference) 4.) The majority of appealing classes are on Order to me and 5.) A good amount of my friends want to play Order as well but this is low on the list for the sake that we really don't know what side we will want to play as a main yet. If we did it would probably be number 2 on my list.

Basically just pick a side that seems to give you the most fun. I'm going to probably play a good amount of destruction in beta as well but just to test out the classes. The only two classes that slightly interest me on destro are the Disciple of Khaine and Chosen... I wanted to play Black Guard but he was cut.

I have a slightly unhealthy hatred towards orcs and all relations to them. Goblins further this hatred to a much larger extent.

EDIT: I hate dwarves too but not so much to the extent of goblins, so I can deal with them. I wouldn't hate them as much (in fact, probably even play them) if they didn't have to have such stupidly ridiculous beards. No beards would be great, but even a small, normal beard would be fine.

Well, I was originally going to play an Ork Choppa, so I was planning on being Destruction anyway.  So, instead, i'll be a marauder and kick it with my buddies who are all a great group of guys.  I enjoy chaos and orks on the tabletop, so I don't think it'll lose it's appeal anytime soon.

After playing Engineer, and BWs in RvR only thing really making me want to play destruction is DoKs, Chosen and the simple fact they own almost every keep except 1 most of the time on my server but with my guild most likely going order... Ya, Destruction had my vote but lost it.
