Does anybody know of a MMOFPS to rival Planetside?

I like Planetside a unhealthy amount but every few months i suffer a "burn out" and get frustrated by it (around the time i max out my character at Battle Rank 20) - Im no expert in the online massive game genre, so is there a game that has the same premise of massive 450 ppl fighting on huge 10km sq maps?

i really tried to like planetside, played it for about a month. great idea trying to mix mmorpg and a fps but in the end it came out something like a peanut butter and mayonaise sandwich.

Have you tried Endless Ages? Very fun MMORPGFPS and I was playing it years before Planetside was released.

Its pretty early in development... but Twilight War is set in a post apocalyptic earth and seems to be MMOFPS. It looks like its going to use the Half Life 2 engine. Though i think they should be thrashed for attempting to call it a XORG (extreme online roleplaying game

star wars battlefront isnt an mmofps, its just a multiplayer fps, big difference, by about 500 people lol

There is a game that "rivals" Planetside. It is Infantry. Infantry was the game that all the major combat formulas, game mechanics, game features, for PS were first tested in. (Infantry and Planetside are owned by the same parentcompany heheh.)
The only difference is the graphics, and the view. Infantry has L.O.S. view (Line Of Sight view - aka you can only see on your screen what your character guy would realistically see from his eyes.)(the only MMORPG that 100% has this unique camera view. Though Astonia III comes close to having it.). PS has F.P. view. (First Person view). And the PS graphics are far better than in Infantry. Though the graphics in Infantry are still good enough to not take away from the fun.
Infantry alpha tested, and beta tested, the math algorythems(sp) for 1-2 years before they were put into Planetside. But the old Infantry game is still up and running at Station.com .... it even got a bit of a graphics face-lift, and far more features. new and different game maps/scenarios, Are there any other direct competitors to PS? No. For all the criticisms SOE (many which are true... check out the letter of appology Smeadly posted up on the EQ site) there ARE some nice things SOE has done/tried to do using its immense MMORPG warchest..... like creating the experimental game Planetside which is a FPS-MMOG or MMOFPS or MMOGFPS.
Also check out World War 2 Online. (To those of you snickering, it has gotten far better than it was at release.)
I am glad you enjoy playing PS. You are proof of the saying "you will see the majority of postings done by complainers, not by satisified customers. Because who is more likely to post? The majority of satisfied customers? Or the minority of dissatisfied customers?". Almost every post on major gamesite on the internet knock PS. The 2 most major complaints are that bases can't be defended when a player and/or guild goes offline. And that there is never an end to the war - 1 side can't totally win. (PS should take notes from AO on this 'problem'.)
PS is doing decent with roughly 50,000 subscribers. Enough to have a chance in heaven or hell of re-couping the roughly 15 million invested to make it. Computer Gaming Magazine did a 1 page story on it, back in Oct 2001. They interviewed the game DEVs, and SOE about it. The cover featured Asheron's Call 2.

Just downloaded neocron2, gonna try it out and then post a little verdict if i get time ^^
I wouldnt call joint ops a mmofps, but thats just cause my definition of mmo includes some sort of character/equipment development, and some sort of developing world. joint ops is just a fps with lots of ppl... but its damn fun though ^^ dunno if its got any long lasting value, but what i played certainly was worth it (beta'd it kinda...)

Sadly there is nothing, nothing at all that is like PS that is out there.. Endless Ages...LOL no, I dare you to find 10 people online at a time... Neocron um NO not even close...WW2 Online.. please.... Even this new game "TwiglightWar" looks like its just another Neocron or Face of Mankind clone......
P.S was a ground breaking game and sadly it looks like there is going to be no Comp for it anytime soon... Why the game companys that make UT, tribes, ect, dont want to jump into the MMOFPS market is beyond me..Having to join individual servers over and over is just not the same as joining one big one that is controlled by the Company... Plus you never see "You need a Password to join this server"
P.S is a one of a kind, and from the looks of it it will be this way for a while to come....
