Poll - What kind of adventuring content do you have the most fun with?

Not counting any type of rewards involved, what type of adventuring content do you draw the most enjoyment from while you're participating in it? Soloing, grouping, or raiding?  Which of these three gets you the most excited? For the purposes of this poll, we'll define the three types as follows:

Solo: You're adventuring by yourself.

Grouping: You're adventuring with in a group of 5-8 people.

Raiding: You're adventuring with (generally) 24+ people.

Now remember - this does not factor in whatever kinds of rewards you may receive.  This is purely based on what is the most enjoyable and exciting while your actually doing it.  This also doesn't factor in crafting/other non-combat content, and leaves out duoing/trioing/etc as well.  I'm pretty much just narrowing in on the basics.  If you like a good mix, pick the one that might edge out the others just a little bit.  Feel free to add in why if you like.

My personal preference? Groups.

I voted "group" with the caveat that if it's a *good* group. Gaming is almost always more fun with a good group of people to play with IMO...

    I vote, Solo,

Reasons, Solo I can chose where to go and what to do, I enjoy just exploring and finding a nice setting and admire the view. I enjoy the challenge of trying to take on stronger mobs, and testing my skill.

I also enjoy grouping, but find the challenges not to be as good as solo, but do enjoy the company and laughs that can be had.

Don't like what is called raids, They are just multi- group content, not really a true raid, which would have members of the raid party doing other tasks then just fighting what the rest are.

Um solo.   Most people can't kite for junk if the need arises and all sorts of stuff like that.

as for aboslute favorite type of exploring stuff it'd be real crafting in 30-40 min bursts.   Just tweaking the stats on a few pieces of equipment to get them just right for where you're planning on going next is just plain fun.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    Group, sort of...

It's generally myself and 1-2 other people, sometimes real life friends and sometimes people I meet along the way.  Generally it starts off as my going out on my own just to see what's there and I usually find people of like mind like myself out in the middle of nowhere and we end up starting a group and continue to hang out in the woods or in some far off corner of the world.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

My best experiences have been grouping up with players in PS, SWG and EQ2 back in 2003/2004 before all three games went to crap. However since WOW promoted solo play now all everyone wants to do is solo and when you get people to group with you they are usually frigging noobs who argue and wipe.

Group, but not PUG. Raid-scale (some degree of PUG by necessity at larger numbers) can also be fun for me as long as it doesn't involve instancing.

    Adventuring Content……………….

Well after playing Mmorpgs I think grouping is what blends me into online role playing games. I remember the old days of Anarchy online when playing a healer for hours and just getting consumed totally. Then came the days of grind gaming and character development and armor gathering and killing a million monsters.

Recently I saw Atlantica Online and once again I found the adventuring part in making into free leagues. Really the character development and everything is fine but there needs to be a motive behind this character development.

To be honest my adventuring days are those days when you go online form a team and try the toughest missions out. I remember doing a few in City Of Heroes until the population dwindled and it was no more fun going online into that game.

Moreover with the pass of time I found a change in the community and gaming scenario. Free to play games got the most population if the game is good and paid to play games lacked the population to make teams or likewise.

In recent times a few games like Requiem Bloodymare did a success in connecting people into their dungeons but the lack of content in the game got that one away at around level 40ish and that level is easy to get in a week.

Perfect World had all the good graphics and fun but the lack of dungeons and the high priced item shop took it away. Rappelz had dungeons but apart from it the game lacked content everywhere else.

In bits and pieces the journey was deep into Mmorpgs and the adventuring was high but then again this mighty heart always seeks new games and being the gamer of the hardcore genre the content is chewed too fast and thus puts a full halt to that game. I still salute Anarchy Online and its class dependent game-play.

    Cheers

    Group for me.

That is because raids are boring, and typically a gamble for loot.

It's all about the group for me.  MMO games are based around the single party of adventuers.   Therefore all the challenges come in group play.  Everyone in the gorup contrinbutes 100%, and usually the group fails if someone does not think like a team player.  Grouping can be boring when you are doing solo quest as a group.  All of the challenge leaves and it turns into a grind.

I thrive off of pick up groups.  You never know what you'll get in a PUG, and most of my entertaining moments come from PUGs.  You must be at your best in a PuG, to ensure the group survives because you don't really know how powerful someone else is.  PuGs also keep your roleplaying fresh, if you do RP.

PUGs provide hours of fun laughing at stupid people.  They provide more challenge as you trek your way through a dungeon with an idiot who can't do their job.

When I really want to get something done though, I will call on a group of reliable friends.  But in the end PuGs provide the most enjoyment.

    LONG LIVE PUGS!!!

Grouping is the most enjoyable especially if you are playing with friends...RL friends makes it even better..... I did my time in raiding and now I cant stand it......Soloing is OK but gets old after awhile and I absolutely cant stand doing quests solo anymore......I really hope games start getting away from the solo quest as the main way to XP model.

I voted solo, because you stipulated 5-8 players for the group option.  I like questing/adventuring in groups like that sometimes, but I prefer to adventure with just one or two real life friends.

Ha, same here Deneb.  I usually play some sort of healer in most games I play, although I like crowd control too at times (which is, of course, also more group-friendly).

I pose another question to all of you - If very few people enjoy raiding the most, why is it so common in games, and what makes it so dull to a lot of you? Can you think of any ways that raiding could be made more "fun"? What do you think these games doing wrong with their raiding systems?

I'm with you, I find crowd control pretty interesting too, not as much as keeping my group mates alive though. One of the greatest feeling I have when playing a MMORPG is when I see a big HELP!!! coming from someone in my group. Then I start running like crazy forgetting mobs that are after me. Just as my groupmate is sure he's gonna die, I finally get close enough to cast that nice healing spell and shield him for a few seconds. I love that

    I voted Solo.

I hate guilds so no raids.

And groups are sometimes a lot of trouble.  Waiting for someone to eat, or for someone to come online, or go to the bathroom, or BRB turning into 5 hours sucks.  I do like helping people out and socializing, but solo just usually gives more freedom.  With solo, I can play at my own pace and do what I want.

I personaly love the raiding aspect of gaming, the big scale interaction and challange is what i find more appealing.

It depends on the game. I would have voted group a year ago, but now I find solo often more fun because it's more relaxing, I don't need to find a group and have actually time to read the quests and appreciate the zones.
