So I got the CD and it says I dont have the sys rq's to run it. I have everything but a pixel shading supported card. I have an MX4000 128MB, so what do I need to get that has pixel shading?

Well ATI is crap, Ill never buy another one of those. They make good cards too bad they cant make drivers worth a shit. So anyway, what card do I need exactly Nvidia-wise?

Isn't the MX400 build on the geforce2 processor, while the all the Ti cards (4600) build on the geforce 4 processor?
If im right that would be your problem, think MX400's are back from 2001ish. Think you just need to move up to atleast a Ver 4 chipset to have on chip pixilshading.

1.7 Ghz AMD, 512 MB RAM...getting an upgrade next week

Get a 5700 Ultra. About 200$ but well worth it.
For the same price you can get a 5900 or a 9800.
Don't buy a 5700.

What is extremely sad about this is the fact that EQ2 will be chasing many players away from this game with its steep system requirements.
I do have a system capable of running EQ2 but unfortunately my best friend does not. Along with many other people I know who will be playing WOW instead of EQ2 or both because their system will run WOW but not EQ2.
Most players who will be faced with this dilemma will have to make a choice. Do they upgrade or buy a new computer just to play EQ2 or do they just get WOW and play it on the one they already have?
I think most will choose the latter. Seems like a poor business move on the part of SOE.

But it's EVERQUEST2, IT"S SO UBER IT"S EVERWUAT!
I HAVE
TO HAVE IT!
IT"S SOE!
hahaha... I agree... but it's SO COOL! It has shadows and sun glasses... and it looks neat! And you need a 5Ghz machine with 2GB RAM to load it...
Another thing... Come on SOE! 10 fuc*ing CDs or 2 DVDs? That's just silly.

I'm even more pissed because a mod deleted one of my threads.
All I asked was "What's so new about Cookie Cutter II?"
And why it's so highly wanted... it looks good, sounds haven't been talked about much... what's so new?
And boom! Deleted... why? I didn't swear, nothing. Now this is another reason I'm not getting the game... some mod didn't want to hear me ask a valid question...
What will he do next?
Cause a thread like that would cause more bad then good lol , it would most likely end up being a flame war.

The MX nvidia series gpu were junk models for people only willing to pay $40 - 60 for a gpu. That would be ok for business applications that did not need shaders and geometry processing for games and mayby in business aps the MX are ok, but they were never intended for gaming.
The MX (NV11 & NV17) were basically nurfed GF2. (2000 era gpu.) In fact the DX7 MX 400 came out in June 2000, the MX 440 Apr 2002. These were 20 & 29 million transister designs, whereas the gaming gpu were 60 (GF4 TIs) to 107 (R9700) million gpu. Those extra transistors were there for a functional reason. The current 6800 is over 220M transisters! Compare to the Oct 2000 northwood P4 cpu, it only had 55M.
The MX didn't even consider vertex nor pixel shader function because they were NOT intended for gaming. The Oct 2001 GF3 Ti were the first nvidia to implement shader 1.1 function. The May 2002 GF4 Tis went to shader 1.3. The March 2003 FX 5200 were the first to goto version 2.0 shader. The May 2004 6600 & 6800 (NV40) were the first version 3. ATI still does not use version 3.0.
As far as what nvidia model gaming gpu you should get, avoid the Ti GF4 as they are not even vertex/pixel shader version 2.0. The GF6600 (about $160) especially the 6600GT (about $210.) In contrast the high-end GF6800 are $350 to $400. I think you can get DX9 FX5600 for about $80 that are about 1/3 as good as the FX6600.
Also for EQ2 you will need a decent 3D sound card. Lota sound features in EQ2. And for future play a mic so you can talk to squad members. Mayby by the time EQ2 retails (?near christmas 2004?) all the gpu will drop a bit in price.
Watch out buying used & 'refurbished' gpu, people love to over-clock (OC) and when they damage them & can not get the mfgr to exchange (OC voids the mfgr warrenty) for a new model the user sells the gpu at a low price to try & recover some cost towards purchasing a replacement. "As is" means just that a burned-out gpu or one that has been OC to such an extent that now you see 'artifacts' due to damaged components in the gpu.
Also modern gpu kinda need extra power, an additional power connection from the power supply (PS.) A cpu pulling near 200watts and a gpu pulling another 200watts means the 280W normal included PS in a case just does not cut it, get near 500 watt PS (about $90,) especially when you have a couple hard drives a couple CD or DVD and a couple case fans, not to mention gpu & gpu fans... all that drain on the PS adds up.
Damn bhug.
Can you say owned.
Anyways, go for a GT6800 or x800 if you have the cash, if not go for a 6600 or a X700 for more of a mid range.
Will this do>?
