Ryzom gave me a much needed wake up call.

I've been playing Eve the last couple years very casually.
Putting in maybe 5+ hours a week just logging in to train and playing one day a week for some light pvp and isk farming.
Well I started getting real bored with the MMO scene not since UO and SWG have I found a good sandbox to play.
I even started to follow the WARhammer online beta and was ready to buy it until early this morning.
I downloaded ryzom this morning and this game smacked me right in the fucking mouth and gave me a major wake up call.
"Hey idiot you don't like roller coaster MMO's"
This game is so freaking good.
I haven't had an experience like this since SWG its awesome.
Ryzom is freaking Epic and anyone that played UO and SWG pre-nge needs to give this game a try.

downloading now, at 109 kb/sec, any faster servers with the game that anyone knows about
the 2nd link from the gamernode place (the one that has www3, www2, etc) WWW2 is dling for me atm at 1.2megs a sec
Ryzom is really a awesome game. You will enjoy it.
Not everyone does but people who give it a chance will.
Don't just drop in and go I don't like this. Give it a good try.

Hey i just got an account for Ryzom and i cant wait to play the game.....BUT my internet is like down or sumthin and it goes at around 8 kbs a sec! its really pissin me off!! but this game sounds reli good and i was wondering is anyone has a guild or somethin that maybe i could join when i get the internet workin and all that stuff. Like you, I loved pre-cu swg and played it untill the day it got murdered.
I've tried beginners Island a while ago, think 1.5 years back... and I found it to be rather dull ... could be ofcourse because I kept comparing it to SWG, and I missed my online buddies. Next to that ... well ... SWG was star wars
and I so damn loved my pets ...
Have much changed to the game itself since then? Maybe now i'm able to see it more objective
After so many dissapointments the past years, I'm so desperate to find a fun game ... maybe i should try another genre for a while
Well as far as changes, Ryzom is pretty much the same as it was before. Same skill system, same Atys, and same helpful community. I would give it another try if you can, though try not to compare it to this or that. The best thing is to take from Ryzom what you enjoy and discard the rest. As you move along I am sure you'll get a whole other buddy list and so on.
SWG was unique in its own right and IP, which makes it hard to let go or even compare to. Ryzom is also in this catagory and consequently cannot be compared to as well. Two unique words, two unique systems, etc.
The beginners' island does not accurately represent the mainland. The mainland is not quest-based, 99% of gear is crafted, and harvesting involves not only Basic and Fine materials but also Choice, Excellent, and Supreme, the latter two being dependent on season, weather, and time of day. The beginners' island doesn't let you try ranged combat (guns, not bows) and there are some stanzas that aren't available on its trainers.

It's an awesome game. My only advice to new players is PLAY PAST THE STARTER ISLAND. Whatever you do.
Personally I like Ryzom 1000000x more than I ever liked UO.....UO had some unique features but the graphics and the community (was only felucca when I tried it) were unbearable......At least in Ryzom I can take 5 steps outside the Ranger camp and not get ganked......
not only is the starter area kinda small compared to the rest of the world, it's also only the tutorial of the game. But if you know your way around a bit, you might notice that you do not have to follow the missions there, and do other things, and explore silan on your own.
And, like said before, the mainland is very different from the starter area, getting to certain areas is an event sometimes, and there is much hidden in the countries just to wander too and look at...
The first thing you do when you start any new game is FORGET THE PREVIOUS GAME.
Sorry for shouting. But you have to enter games with fresh and new mind set. Pretend you have never played another one before.
Ryzom is an awesome game. ummm think I already said that didnt I sorry repeating myself.
But I have seen disgruntle people in many games because they are always going "it is not like (enter previous game name here). Well of course it isn't it is a different game.
Give the game a chance. Think fresh and new.
I downloaded SoR at 1.3 mbps.
Get a good download manager like Flashget, then get FF 3.0, then get flashblock for FF, then get flashgot for FF,
Then shop the servers till you find one that has a decent DL speed and supports multiple DL threads.
playing the starter island all over again - still haven't made it to the mainland but having a blast once more
so cool that it is back
