They're pretty damn awsome...i tore people up with mine...not that I didn't die alot as well all it takes is more than 1 attacker on you and you'll go down.
I leveled one to 10 over the weekend. In RvR, I usually found myself as the meat in a Chosen sandwich. Since the Empire doesn't have a Tank, that splits any tanking duties between yourself and the Warrior Mage, unless you "import" from the other races. On the server I was on, we spent much of our time divided between getting ground into the ground by overwhelming numbers or running back to get pummeled some more. In 1-on-1 battles, I could do quite well. When things got more pitched, things start to unravel fast.

Witch Hunters are like glass cannons. They can hit hard but thei die fast. As a Chosen, it would take only about 7 to 8 whacks to bring a witchhunter down.
I never had a witchhunter kill me either. It usually about 2 dwarven warriors or some bright wizards who kill me.
But, Witchhunters are DPS. You may take some casters and other DPS down but you may get killed (you will get killed) if you faced a tank without backup.

They are a lot of fun. I was not going to play Order at launch, and now my two main characters will be Warrior Priest and Witch Hunter. They are great at keeping people snared and wearing away at them. They have an attack that ignores armor from the back, and a buff that makes your executions snare the target. These together makes anyone trying to run away dead. I hate people who run. =D
I loved working with Witch Hunters when I played an Ironbreaker. Putting Guard and Oath Brother on a witch hunter partner allowed us to take down many foes. Since they are squishier and deadlier targets than a tank, they'll be attacked first by smarter players and then my grudge count goes through the roof, increasing my damage.
With luck, if you charge in with a tank partner and head towards the casters in the back, the tanks up front will turn around to come after you. This sets up a nice steamroll by your caster support.
In EVE they would be the equivelant of a Gankgageddon or a blasterthron. But anywho they pacl a heavy punch but they can't take it. I think they are great in pvp but you have to e cunning and avoid being cornered. I had most succes with going for lone casters, or waiting till an enemy tanker was occupied and then stab him in the back multiple times and when he was almost down executing him. but the rule of thumb with the witch hunter, know when it's time to run for the hills.
They just need more work ont he poor animations and feedback of the hit because currenty they can be doing loads of damage to you and theres no way of telling they're doing it to you in mass RVR because lack of good animations and spell effects.

Yes the health bar is completely useless for seeing if your taking damage so is all the nice bright red numbers flying across the screen!
/sarcasm off
honestly more animations and more effects = more lag. Though to be honest how has time to really concentrate on those if they're actually out fighting and not poking a stick at an npc.

They seem like a less stealthy rogue.
You can only go into stealth every minute, has some positional attacks, and builds up points to do executions.
