Today i tried Ryzom for the first time. I must admit I'm having lot's of fun. I still don;t understand quite a lot about this game. I love graphics, music. I don't like characters and their animation but I can live with that. Right now I have to spend some time reading tutorials etc. so i can finnal understand how my character can grow in streanght etc. But so far it was a pleasure to experience this game.
Who knows maybe I found my mmo fix ater guild wars. I have been looking for a new online game for a year now and I'm so happy that I tried Ryzom.
Well, I played for a week a year or so back - just after the trial started, and I liked the game but never really got into it.
So I downloaded the client and grabbed an account on Saturday and had a play. Then played Sunday, with my wife who sqeuaked "ooooh, sounds interesting" when I told her about the freeform mechanics. Then Monday. Aaaaand again last night.
I love it - but then I love sandbox games and am most definitely not put off by an open universe where you can choose to do whatever you want to do. I'm primarily a sci-fi fan, so loved Star Wars Galaxies in the early days and am eagerly awaiting Jumpgate Evolution but SoR most definitely fills a void in my gaming life.
It has its problems and there are plenty of things I'd love to see addressed but they're all little, niggling things not game breakers. The community is quite simply one of the best I've experienced in many, many years of online gaming. My wife's character had an apartment bought for her yesterday when she headed off to the mainland and I've had numerous discussions with people about roleplaying, guilds, game mechanics and more - all friendly and approachable. As it stands, my wife's character is enjoying crafting and foraging and I'm bolstering my fighting and magical skills in order to survive exploring the main land (and gather materials for the other half). Strangely, in SWG she was the Master Tailor and I was the Master Bio Engineer...
So, new publisher/developer, you have two guaranteed subscriptions here. The only thing that concerns me is how stupid I've been to miss this little gem before.
Thanks for all the positive feedback here , i love seeing how many people are getting ingame.
5000 new accounts in the past 7 days so far...
Also i'll keep in mind the negative feedback about overprotective veteran players (i think i've been guildty of that in uni chat already at least once or twice) and try to better my life, tho in general i think i'm a friendly person

When I logged back in for the first time in over a year, I felt the same way about the characters and animations. Then as I played on, I quickly remember why I enjoyed Ryzom for so long. The characters as "weird" as they may appear have purpose as they simply are alien species. As far as the animations, there are several different animations for various aspects of the game.
For example, if you are standing idle with nothing inyour hands, you move about differently than if you had a pike or sword in your hand. Each style of weapon also has there own unique sets of fighting and idle animations. If anything I would love to see these animations become a bit more fluid than rigid, but at this point I'm just glad its back, and I with it.
Just an observation.
Welcome to Ryzom, if you need any help, us at House Etchmarc will be glad to help.
Ive only been playing a couple days but I am very impressed so far...I was burnt out on the easy mode MMOs (WoW, LotRO, EQ2) but Ryzom is a nice refreshing change.....I would highly recommend it for those who are tired of the same ole same ole games we have been seeing the past couple years......
