I could be remembering wrong because I didn't use it much as a BW, but wasn't there a spell that released all your combustion points as a damage spell?  Assuming that spell exists, you don't technically have to worry much about killing yourself if you use that spell consistently.

I didn't have a problem with the backlash in PvE. I'd guess maybe 15-20% of my deaths were from backlash in the PvP areas (which is where I spent the most time).

    Bright Wizards freaking rock!!!

    1.  If you want to finish top damage dealer in any RvR scenario and therefore gain the most XP and Renown, play a BW.

    2.  If you want to level extremely fast while waiting for a RvR scenario, play a BW.  Every quest and mob gets dropped in 1-2 hits from the safety of extreme range.

    3. Want to get the best loot/prizes for public quests?  Play a BW!  Participation is mostly based off damage and you might as well be given a sceptre, crown and a harem of mistresses because thou art KING!

    4.  Want to turn the tide in huge RvR objective battles?  Play a BW!  Your AOE's can single handedly stop a massive assault or make the nastiest of tanks rethink their character choice.

One thing I havent seen mentioned about the BW.

When you make your toon yo can selesct different runes/ writing to go on your arms.

As your combustion grows you will actually start to smoke, and the runes will glow a little.

I'm not sure how high you need to have your settings to see these effects, but if you can run at max settings you'll see it.

The explosion damage can be avoided by being mindful of your combustion score and pacing your dps.

This class has great spell animations and deals a ton of damage.

Backlash is a really cool mechanic.  You have to weigh the options of whether to keep casting and hope for the extra damage or use meltdown and keep yourself safe.

I killed myself a couple of times taking chances in RVR but if your dieing in pve... you're just not paying attention or something.

my backlash became MORE of a problem as I got higher level.

i died more and more until I got stuck at one point and just stoped playing.

But One thing about another posters statement of domination in instances. I seem to get more renown when i live vs when I die. it almost seems like the better your ratio of party kills to deaths combined with damage... gives you most xp. also, you seem to get more xp for being lower level and finishing better.

when I was level 9 killing level 12s i seemed to get more xp than level 13 killing others my level.

this is why i leveled so fast. its just hard to stay alive. 1000hp getting whacked for 350 a pop hurts... I could have just been smart and gotten gear with +HP on it... but that wouldnt be as fun.

With all that said, and as much fun as I had.... Im still playing a runepriest speced in overtime efects named Bishopx (like malcom x)

at level 17 with my renown gear and some specfic quest rewards my BW had 2780 hp

i could easily kill 2 players at once...BUT - if there was ANY healer in sight (especially a zealot) it would be almost impossible to burn down anyone..the DPS is good but burst wise it is nothing special...I had me and 2 other BW's focus fire on a BO with a zealot healing from 150 feet away and we could NOT kill him..and the zealot would just run back into his war camp and heal from there...

healers need the 150 feet toned down a bit...and yeah BW's are decent but they won;t be nerfed as they can;t cut through a single healer already...

I play a lot of games...

Yea they dont seem ovrpowered at all, especialy with backlash on them, they cant be overpowered. Im still worried about the backlash, anyone here could post some videos about backlash, show how it is on mid lvls and so on?

the backlash from combustion really isn't a problem at all if you know what your doing. I have rarely killed myself through backlash, and now that they have meltdown I have not killed myself once. The backlash is more noticeable at lower levels with bad gear. However, it takes a lot longer to build up combustion lower you are. At Rank 40 it is extremely easy to build up to maximum combustion with only 3 spells cast and using meltdown won't set you back much at all.

Neither sorc or BW need a nerf. I could kill sorc in 10secs on my IB and watched BW go down just as fast. They just need to know where they are and get to them fast.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

The backlash mechanic serves a two fold purpose.  First, leaving them alone in the backfield creates a huge threat.  Second, it limits how much dps they can throw out without a healer.  Both work very well in pve and rvr.  I played both sides of the mechanism during the preview weekend.  When I was on my sorc, I would even out the nuking power usually dumping the Dark Magic when I hit 100 points, allowing a full powered nuke or two.  After that point, unless you have a healer hidden in a bush somewhere you are going to kill yourself.

Now from a healer perspective, usually a HoT is more than enough to keep a sorc/bw up without additional dps on them.  Once you have a melee on you, or heading towards you past the roots you just need to flee.  On my DoK I would make a caster my defensive target and put both hots on them, and use my attack heal ability everytime it was up.  Between my dps and the sorc pounding someone, people die fast.

It's really about the group effort.  While certain classes have weakness, others meld so well to cover those.  It's the best part of RvR.

Edit: I didn't test when I was on my Chosen, but does guard absorb half of the backlash damage?  Seems like that would make bw/sorc even more viable straight nuking in mass RvR.

The most OP classes in Warhammer right now are:

    1. Ironbreaker (they won't die, especially when someone is healing them, plus they make tons of damage)

    2. Warrior Priest (they won't die, they can heal themselves, a low level WP could easily defend himself solo vs. 4-5 Destruction in PW).

    3. Bright Wizard (thank god they die, but they can do much more DPS compared to Sorcs and they are extremely dangerous in RvR when they stand behind a group. Plus melee DPS can not reach them when they are way behind).

I am waiting for nerfs for either of these classes. Hopefully at OB they will be balanced out.

I think you are confusing survivability and location placement for overpowered mechanics.  A tank with a healer is hard to take down, crazy isn't it? =)  They really don't do a ton of damage.  On my sorc I could flee, leaving them to flee to chase me or turn around allowing me to nuke once flee came off.

WP/DoK - Both as and against, there is no way in hell you are tanking 4-5 players.  Maybe you think tier2 DoK vs five level 1 upranked players.  I can tell you that soloing two lower level players was fine, but once a BW came around the corner I broke LoS on him until he got bored and I could take out a low level tank and melee dps.  That was with my morale heal coming up, which was clutch once the BW started nuking.

BW/Sorc while they have a serious range advantage if they stand their ground they die easily.  They get the most use of the 100 yard range and flee.  Without a doubt if a BW doesn't flee after the root, you are fighting a scrub.

yea the 100y range was awesome. really liked that, cant see why u wait on a nerf on them, but then again, i havent played the game, just heard and seen

maybe i should just level 1 up, cous i like the lore and love mages, and just practice and be good by controlling 1
